What a breath of fresh air Simon Nielsen is. Smiling, vibing out to music, admiring his opponents plays. I love watching matches where you can see someone enjoy themselves even on a round loss. Good spirits make this game worth playing. I miss that so much. Arena is definitely awesome but I really miss the interaction and conversation with my opponent. That's something arena will never live up to with MTG.
I think playing Wanderring Emperor in match 3 game 1 to exile goldspan dragon was an obvious missplay. Reasoning: Simon had a Vanishing verse in his hand which he knows can only target goldspan or reflections in creature form and he was down on cards against izzet deck. I think the obviously better play was to Blitz Underdog and exile goldspan with verse. Push dmg and keep emperor for next turn, because he knows Magma Opus will hit next turn (Jan would be untapping with 7 mana and land drop is almost always happenning). I know its easy for me to say when I have full information, but even if opponent doesnt have magma opus, then at least we draw one more card and push 3 more dmg which with 4 on board can stack up really fast.
Why wouldn't Simon infernal grasp his underdog in response to the exiling instead of targeting Jan's 2/2? That would allow him to keep playing it. Simon also has a 2/2 token already on the field for a block too.
Does anyone here get consistent good card draw when they play arena lmao im watching this match and im like ok why hasnt anyone been flooded yet lol creatures or land
What a match. Standard looks sweet. Simon super cringe lol but you can’t blame him after playing so many hours on the pc you have to enjoy some music while destroying everyone to your second place finish. Merkel is a beast. Piloting Hinata to a win. Fable is broken. Chances it gets banned?? I mean you have play red right ??
I don't see how anyone can watch Arena like this for professional magic. The set up for professional magic is pitiful in comparison to what it once was. Very excited to return to paper.
@@marspark6351 This can't be a real question. Magic is a much more intricate game when you're right in front of your opponent because of all the different mind games the players can put on each other. And nerves are a lot more prevalent in person. When you're just playing on your computer in the comfort of your own home, there's nothing that challenges you when it comes to mind games. You just stare at a screen instead of at your opponent or a more interactive battlefield. Plus the blocky shape of the cards on arena are a lot less appealing than just seeing the full card, in my opinion. Even though these players play against real people, playing on the computer feels much more like playing against an AI, which is less fun, personal, and interactive. Plus it's just more fun (to me personally) to play in person. I feel there's a lot more intricacies in person in comparison to arena on the computer. To top it off, the commentators feel more into it when it's in person. I've heard a lot of dull commentary with the arena coverage.
@@michaelzimmer5701 I disagree. I know they've put a lot of resources into making arena proper and functioning well for professional magic, but at the end of the day it's a paper game and I have faith that paper magic will return.
@@cooljoe500 I actually quite like watching Arena, because you can better follow the players actions, see the cards etc. I thought it makes you wish for him to turn off his cam :D
So much of the soul of the game is lost watching the sterile digital play. Those moments of manipulation and bluffing is lost with two guys sitting in there rooms, never seeing one another, clicking a mouse.
