Dear Reader, I’m doing the #janeaustenjuly readathon! I cheated on the last prompt and did not watch a modern retelling, but would love any suggestions for a film that is a modern day retelling of a Jane Austen story. I’ll be back later this week with more videos! 😊

I hate most of retelling but I do like 'Lost in Austen.' because it's a time travel story. I will forgive some of its alterations to the plot because putting people into a different time period makes me think about how I would I adapt or how would they.

Love your videos. I always add one or two books to read after watching them. I would love to see a shelf tour of the books behind you. Maybe it would make a good short video ❤

Library looks good. Best wishes with what you choose to read. The only problem with watching other book tube channels is that it only increases the tbr! Happy reading to you!

I have yet to read Sense and Sensibility, Northanger Abbey, and Mansfield Park. I think I've read all the others. I very much enjoy your commentary on the physical copies that you have. That's really what I enjoy most about your videos: your delight in books! I'm not reading Jane Austen. I'm reading At Freddie's by Penelope Fitzgerald and I'm just beginning The Swerve: How the World Became Modern by Stephen Greenblatt. Enjoy your Austen this month!

@@booktalkingwithlibrarylin1924 Ha, I edited out a whole section about liking the Vintage Classics editions because the font was a good size and the book opened flat, etc etc. ☺️ I’ve never heard of At Freddie’s. Hope you enjoy it!

Hi Celeste! What a beautiful intro!!! So many wonderful titles! My sister and her family arrived yesterday and even still I tried to watch your video yesterday but kept getting interrupted so just watched it again this morning with my coffee. I only just read Sense & Sensibility last year with my book club so I thought this year I would do a Mansfield Park/Sanditon focus. Oh I am so sorry about that sticker issue! I hate that too! Wow that Annotated edition of Persuasion is wonderful!!! What a price! I may also add Jane Austen at Home to my collection. Does 'Dress in the Age of Jane Austen' say anything about mustaches? While double-checking my research I could not find anything concrete about whether or not men wore them during Regency or Georgian era. Oh how I loved 'The Other Bennett Sister' i listed to it on audio while my Mom and I travelled throughout the UK, but I want to reread it. For me, audio and reading in person are a little different. I get more personally involved when I read a book that I don't really get when I listen to audio. That Sense and Sensibility with Dan Stevens is actually my favorite screen adaptation! I think the Eleanor character is perfect! Death Comes to Pemberley was great too! I have not read the book yet though! Lovely video Celeste!!!!🦚

Thanks for making time to watch! I couldn’t find anything in the book on mustaches but I’ve read that in Regency society they were uncommon and a shaved face was the norm. I love the names for their hairstyles, though: The Caesar, The Titus, The Brutus (think Colin Firth’s Darcy’s “frightened owl” look) The Coup au Vent, The Bedford Crop, etc. achieved through strategic cutting and pomades of bear grease; or in the case of Darcy, not washing the hair very often. Regarding stickers, I hate them and if I ever do the “I’m so annoyed “ tag, stickers on books will definitely be on the list! Have a wonderful time with your sister and family!

I loved the film Death Comes to Pemberly. Elizabeth and Darcy's relationship was subdued (because there was a murder of course) but their abiding love under the surface was beautiful to watch. I'm about to re-watch it which I do from time to time. Agree the Hillary Davidson fashion book is "swoonworthy". I poured over that for several afternoons. Her other book, Death in the Age of Jane Austen, was good too but the fashion one sparkled. Do you know I have never read Mansfield Park? Perhaps I will pluck it off the shelf this month. Thank you for your wonderful vlog. So grateful.

I'm currently listening to: 'Jane and Me, My Austen Heritage.' by Caroline Jane Knight, she was one of the last family members to live at Chawton, I'm finding descriptions of the house and family history more interesting than the more personal information.

@@areadersalmanacwithceleste1366 I have to admit, that I have been a little disappointed, had I listened to the author reminiscing for an hour or two I would have have been thrilled but there's too much of her life and not enough Chawton or Jane for me.
