My heart broke a little at Jane downplaying her own role in Gainsbourg’s music and getting no pushback whatsoever from the interviewers. Those songs were literally made for her, and she was the perfect person to interpret them. And she did so, beautifully.

Ms Birkin is one of the kindest, intelligent and most gracious of women. She is elegant and endearing. The questions re her ex partners were especially insensitive. Personally i find it really weird to write a song for someone who breaks your heart and ask the same person to sing it. Was it ever done before Serge did it?
