"Good food is expensive" Thank you Gina!! A lot of celebrities encourage better diets, whole foods, vegan life styles but do not realize how expensive organic food is.

@sallyscott3663 5 лет назад
@@rclark8999 I have hashimotos and had JUST finished uni when it flared up for me (luckily exams out the way!). It was overactive and I was super anxious and was dizzy and fainting and couldn't go out until my levels dropped and the docs realised it was hashi. Then it took ages for the medication to get to a decent level, which it is now (10 months later) but I have other problems like IBS which has recently been diagnosed. Just about ready to go back to work now, but it is daunting trying to decide whether to go for a grad role or try and take it slow. Other people I've known with it all react differently and both still stayed in uni/work, guess there are a lot of factors it depends on. If I had a job which I was on sick leave from, I probably would have had at least 3 months off in hindsight from what happened. I was working part time whilst at uni and had to leave that early too when my symptoms got really bad, one day my boss was holding me up so I didn't collapse, was a quick realisation that I was unable to work after that.

@@sallyscott3663 Oh my goodness! Your experience is identical to mine. I was diagnosed last year whilst doing my master thesis. I could not hand my dissertation on time and fast forward one year I'm still trying to complete it. I was also hyperthyroid and the doctor thought I had Graves until the levels dropped. Anxious, didn't sleep for a whole week, was hallucinating, went into ketosis, it was an absolute nightmare. And I thought I was the only one like this.
@sallyscott3663
@sallyscott3663 4 года назад
@@KTR2022 I'm sorry to hear about all the things you went through leading up to proper diagnosis, it is the worst time. The comfort is that things are unlikely (fingers crossed) to get that bad again. I was also confusing the doctors! I think it happens as it did for us often, but doctors will see a higher proportion of people who develop low thyroid levels over time. 10 months later, I applied for a few jobs but nothing worked out in my town so I'm applying for a masters now, although things are uncertain with covid-19 around. Good luck finishing your thesis and stay healthy, wishing you the best!

I was “officially” diagnosed a year and a half ago. As soon as I heard the list of symptoms for this disease, I knew I had been suffering from this for much longer. I had been suffering with these symptoms for over 13 years, and I struggled with my doctor because she called me a hypochondriac every time I came in with a “problem” / symptom. She would say I was over weight, or I was depressed.. She even said that I have no reason to have the symptoms that I have. No reason... to have symptoms? Let that sink in.. I had no reason for my hair to fall out, or for me to lose 40lbs because the thought of food made me so nauseous I would puke even after drinking water.. No reason to have chronic migraines, or chronic urticaria, or joint pain and swelling, mood swings, or panic disorder.. No reason for my right eye to be swollen (later diagnosed as Graves’ disease, which could have permanently damaged my eyesight), no reason to have a heavy period for 10 days straight, every two weeks.. No reason to have high blood pressure/ skipping heart beats, tremors or anything else I went in for? No. Apparently it was all in my head because I was “Too young to have any real problems”. She said this to me. Multiple times. I let her convince me that I was crazy for YEARS. Let me tell you something, illness does NOT have an age restriction! This started when I was in middle school, and I am STILL dealing with it now at 28. I’m so angry I stayed with her for as long as I did- because a little over a year ago now, I had to have my thyroid removed to save my life. That doctor could have killed me, because she refused to diagnose my hashimotos and Graves’ disease despite my family history. My thyroid was so mangled and over-grown, the surgeon was shocked when he saw it. I’ve been feeling much better without my thyroid, but I could have felt better over a decade ago, and the thought makes me furious.. because despite the fact that I feel better, there’s a possibility that my thyroid could be growing back. Yep. Your thyroid can regenerate. It’s not common- BUT is more common in people with, you guessed it, GRAVES DISEASE. I might be starting at square one only a year after surgery... But at least I have an Endo who cares and is taking every step to ensure my comfort and safety. If you’re going through this, just know you are not alone, and you should NOT let your doctor make you feel wrong about how you feel. It’s not in your head.. Hashimotos, Hypo, hyper... Graves- they’re all terrible diseases that wreak havoc on our bodies. We know our bodies better than anyone.. don’t let ANYONE try to convince you otherwise.

I’ve been diagnosed since I was 8. Once you’re on medication (and it will change for a while until you balance out) but it’s not scary to have it. It’s the most manageable disease in the world. But I’m glad they’re talking about it because it’s very under diagnosed and so many women especially have it, and getting medication can help you feel so much better.

I was recently diagnosed and have feverishly be doing research and changing my life, but hearing the statement "You are not less than because you weigh 10 15 pounds more" just had me in a puddle because its what I've been struggling with for so long. Also my years of confusion cleared up, I am active, I am healthier than most but losing weight was basically non existent because I was not eating what my body needed. The diagnosis was more of a validation, it also provided clarity and understanding know now what I need to do, and in the past 3 weeks I've lost 4kgs which was impossible in the past, this is itself is empowering!

I’ve never heard a celebrity talk about this until now. I was diagnosed with it 5 years ago at the age of 28. It’s been the hardest struggle of my life. Hearing the list of symptoms and knowing every single one applies to me is a tough reality to accept. The depression, weight gain, brittle hair, all of it is just so exhausting. I juggle this constant back and forth game where I try to be strong and not let it break me, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t. I don’t want my story to affect anyone who suffers from Hashimoto’s lose hope. It’s true, everyone’s journey is different. It’s incredible to hear her message and positivity. I only shared this because although my own story is not one of the inspiring tales, hearing this still gives me hope. The last 5 years have been hell, but maybe the next 5 will be different. Maybe I’ll finally get my life back, maybe I’ll finally get me back. There are those times when I lose the strength to cope. There are those times when I face the darkest days. And there are those times when I’m scared and paralyzed by fear. But hidden inside the very deepest part of me is hope. Even if it’s only the size a crumb, it still is there, it still exists. And it reminds me that I still do too.

I was diagnosed with hashimoto 4 years ago when I was 15 and back then I had never heard about that disease before and I felt like I was the only person on earth who had that because every time I told people about my disease they were like „huh? What’s that?“ and it feels really good to hear others talk about it☺️

I found out about my Hashimoto 1,5 year ago, hormones are tricky in my case. But this sickness helped me a lot when a month ago my doctor said that I have SM too. Immunological diseases are hard to figure out, but the most important is your mind health, next - quality of the food and amount of salt and sugar into it. Gina - love you more and more, such a positive vibes around you!

my hashimoto’s is due to celiac - I definitely recommend those with a thyroid problem to try going gluten free for a few weeks just to see if it works for you.

This is a bit of a weird comment. Today I thought I was going to get diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, I watched this video and was ready to take it on. But today one of my scans didn’t come back quite right so I have to have a biopsy to check of one part of my thyroid could become cancer. And I’m scared of it. I’m only 14 I’ve never been sick. Celebrities like Gina educate people how to feel good in your own body even if it changes is so important, so thank you. :)

Gina, thank you so much for speaking openly about your Hashimoto's. I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease, which is hyperthyroidism, when I was 19 and a freshman in college. I have been in remission for four years now because I completely changed the way I eat. I've been a big fan of yours for a few years now, but I just found out about your Hashimoto's. Keep being amazing! :)

Sara Jolley how did your diet change? I have Grave’s as well and doing research on this topic.
@sarasorrell8476

@@lauraperez504 First I did a lot of research on which foods contain iodine, which is what stimulates the thyroid gland to be more active. I realized that before I was diagnosed I was eating sushi at least once a week (seaweed and fish), eating canned tuna (more fish), drinking a gallon of 100% cranberry juice at least every two weeks, and eating canned navy beans. All of these foods have a lot of iodine. I stopped eating sushi and drinking or eating cranberries, since these have the most iodine. You can look up the exact amounts online. Seaweed has something like 1000% of your daily value of iodine per serving and cranberries are close to 300%. Navy beans aren't that high so I didn't cut that out completely, I just control the amount by only cooking them once a month. I also stopped using iodized table salt and switched to sea salt, which is not iodized. This meant taking a little shaker of my own salt to restaurants for a while when I was still in the thick of things. In addition to cutting out iodine, I also went gluten free. My boyfriend/now husband was already gluten free and it was an easy transition. Having one autoimmune disorder makes it 25% more likely that you have another autoimmune disorder, most of which show improvement on a gluten free diet, since Celiac Disease is an autoimmune disorder as well. I also had already planned to go out of the country for 5 weeks. This meant climbing mountains in Greece and therefore being on a Mediterranean diet at the same time, which meant eating a bunch of healthy fats and protein. I built 10 lbs of muscle when I was gone for 5 weeks. Before I left the country I was steadily losing weight at 108 lbs, which is way to skinny for my frame. This was all in the late spring/early summer. By October, I was in remission and I have been since then. The only thing I did that counts as traditional medicine was taking a beta blocker to slow my heart rate down. I highly recommend doing this. It will help you gain weight, sleep, and will keep your heart from being damaged by beating too hard and fast all of the time. I was only on it from May-October. Okay, so those are all of the things that I can personally recommend for you to do. In addition, I also saw a functional medicine doctor/chiropractor. He had me take selenium pills, which is good for normal thyroid function, and L-Carnitine, which slows the thyroid down. I did that for about a year and a half, until I saw that my blood test results were trending more towards hypo and I needed to stop the L-Carnitine. If you are interested in consulting with my doctor, he may could recommend someone similar in your area. His website is www.fountainheadrx.com/ I hope this helps! Grave's sucks in the beginning, but it doesn't have to be that way forever. :)

This makes me love her so much more. I have a lot of autoimmune diseases etc and I love the hope and positivity she gives me. She is so right. EACH BODY IS DIFFERENT. I’m a professional patient but also an advocate and I’ve witnessed so many different stories. Having Lyme, I hear so many stories of failure... but recently hearing so much about diet and positive effects it’s had over anything else. So yes, I will do my picc line 9 months antibiotics, but I’m also plant based in how I’m eating. Exercising is difficult right now as I just had an unfortunately failed brain surgery and also have POTS, but I’ll get there. The heavy depression has been holding me back. I just need find some real structure. And do it.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s about two years ago and I can’t believe I’m barely just watching this but this is actually motivating me to continue doing what I’m doing but do it even better and be on top of myself I’m actually seeing this new doctor and he’s a holistic doctor all about the natural stuff because these other doctors out here just want money and just want to put you on medication that makes you feel sicker so I’m glad that I’m seeing this new doctor that’s going to be able to help me get to my goals hopefully I can make it there

I was always the curvy girl still am and my weight has been different through and I've always felt bad about my image. Even my mom says you are kinda pretty you just need to drop the weight. Heard it my entire life and it sucks.

Kam J I’m sorry she told you that! She shouldn’t of. Btw your profile pic is gorgeous. My mom would tell me if I gained any weight. I’m 5’2 104lb and I got injured at practice and I couldn’t practice for two weeks and she told me “wow you really should work out it looks like you are gaining weight” like what? I was injured🤦🏼‍♀️ Anytime I’d gain weight she would be like “are you pregnant?” It’s affected me overtime. Keep doing you❤️ (also if you are having any health issues please get it checked out) I waited for a long time and just found out I have cystic fibrosis.

I have the opposite of Hashimoto's which is Grave's Disease (an autoimmune disorder that causes HIGH thyroid hormones, not low thyroid hormones like Hashimoto's does) I've had low thyroid though in the past and it sucks and high thyroid sucks just as much tbh.
