This is when music was treated like art. You can tell she put a lot of thought into this project. Now music is just churned out with minimum creativity and effort by artists and that's why the public doesn't support the music business the way they used to.
+terpgirl06 This is Janet at the peak of her game, an artist in control of her craft and the fact that she looked like the music...in all her funky, edgy glory just makes it that much better.
Her magnum opus, an album which push boundaries to mainstream, an album and era that envelopes the need of acceptance, domestic violence, social media, homophobia, curiosity of sexuality and loving yourself despite being hurt and recovering from depression. R&B and Pop album with trip hop(GTIG, My Need, You), folk rock(Special), electronic(Empty), house(Together Again, Go Deep) and bass(Anything, Rope Burn). P.S. A lot of artists followed this kind of formula even once in their discography thanks to Janet, Jimmy and Terry.
João Vitor I love this album and stripped, too. I hate that it came so early in Christina's career, because I've not been satisfied with anything she's put out since then cause I always compare it to stripped.
Mario Miguel Scharer Christina should've waited until she was in her late 20s/early 30s to do an album about self-reflection like Stripped. Back To Basics and Bionic were good, but the songs just weren't great the way the songs from Stripped were. As for Lotus... I'm not even gonna comment about Lotus. LOL.
I'd say more so the.janet album from 1993, but this album her international success grew even more and Michael was no longer in his prime by 1997, so she was like the only big Jackson by then.
But MJ came out with BOTDF in May of 97 month before janet released VR that same here and while MJ was still going on tour that same year , so he was STILL popular and big then .
Imo, she's always been an artist. Control was the album that put her name on the map, but with Rhythm Nation 1814 she'd already established herself as an artist that can stand on her own. After that, "janet." & "The Velvet Rope" just continued to add to the legacy and she also started experiencing success internationally (for the first time).
+TheDeluxe79 Ditto for me on EVERYTHING u said lol having the VR tour as ur first concert experience fucked it up for ANY other concert show after that for me
I have been a fan of Janet for 2 years. One thing about Janet is all her albums sound new and fresh that's what music is missing artists with new fresh sounds.
Great interview. Janet is so brave and brilliant. Love that she is able to express her feelings openly without worrying what people will think. I am sure she has helped others by being open and honest about her life challenges.
Her artistic choices and interview responses were incredibly forward thinking. She was far more progressive than her latter years and her contemporaries. It’s unfortunate that the industry and public opinion were successful in curtailing that.
Yes! I went and got my little speaker and plugged it into my tablet, volume all the way up, it's still low! But I can hear it, what an interesting video! Janet rules 😃
Her best era. Rhythm Nation was more nostalgic and commercially successful. But Velvet Rope had more soul. That's what broke the tie of Rhythm Nation vs Velvet Rope for me.
I’m very private person I don’t post about my personal life and this album as kept my faith in my private life I love you janet thank you for this beautiful masterpiece
you wonder I see soo many type this, and its astounding what happened to a lot of music in general specifically R&B and rap, and MTV and other similar channels
One interview on YT for the making of I Get Lonely she said she wasn’t gay, but here she sounds like she possibly does. I don’t think she’s gay, but is she bi? Anybody know? She’s so fine!
@@cowboystyle4513 I care im a big fan of her sexual music and the more details she puts on a song and interview about this kinda taboo topic makes it even more exciting when u hit Janets baby making playlist.I love everything in her extensive catalog
Janet is complex and shes not gonna give u much in a interview. But u will get alot from her songs that are not singles mostly only fans will gravitate.Honestly i think thats intentional on her part
