*Gvn$hoe* I agree with you. I too loved _Rhythm Nation 1814_ as well as all the music videos. But now, in all objectivity and detachment, it is so clear that this work embodied some of the most radical _masonic esoteric philosophies_ and that it indeed served as a propaganda tool in order to indoctrinate the masses, meaning the youth of that time, meaning _us_ of today. Nonetheless, I still dig the thoughtless entertainment side of it. Better than this one for sure: thewildvoice.org/actors-singers-celebrities-entertainers/comp-madonna-satan/
And b4 THE GREATEST RN18 there was what's going on....then came KENDRICK'S TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY. JANET'S REMAINS THE STANDARD THOUGH as far as commercial success.... but socially, physically, and mentally they all on the same level imo...and I don't know if THE GREAT LEMONADE as a whole was more social than it was very personal. Idk GREAT MUSIC ALWAYS FROM THE KING, CANT WAIT FOR B7
@@blakkone4000 I was talking about how Janet pioneered the RN project with these mini videos within the RN film she made for MTV which was unheard of, besides her brother's long form video film Thriller. No one was doing that not even Mike.. I love Beyoncé myself! Beyoncé did the exact same in a different time yes with hers being more personal than political. Everyone was saying how visual Beyoncé is but she got it from her teacher Janet ☺
I concur. This album was and still is completely relevant even in 2021. Janet must have had a deep seated spiritual vision for what the earth in this dimension needed to move forward as a civilization, towards a more equitable, high end civilization, where there is no more war but peace, no more ignorance but high intelligence, equity and equality, no more divides but, unity, no more hate but, peace.
"In complete darkness, we are all the same, it is only our knowledge and wisdom that separates us. Dont let your eyes deceive you. " -Janet Jackson, Rhythm Nation 1814
Did you know that this album won 8 Billboard music awards and I saw those awards on TV. I strongly believe Janet thoroughly deserved those awards. You may want to check this out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UpkKdL5-zzw.html
@@davidhabert This album actually won 15 billboard music awards, 8 of those were televised, the other 7 were from non televised Billboard music award events.
@@guitar_roker3590 that would explain the awards that I saw Janet receive that night. I saw the televised version of the 1990 billboard music awards. I didn't know she won anymore awards which were non-televised. Thank you for that update.
I was in third grade, and my mom took me to Walmart after my dance recital and bought me this vhs. I watched this film over and over until it popped. I still love it today.
At the time it came out (Sept 1989) this album Rhythm Nation 1814 was more than an album it was a MOVEMENT. It spawned 7 Top 5 singles, and may be the only album to my knowledge to have three number 1 hits across three years (Miss You Much- 1989, Escapade- 1990, and Love Will Never Do Without You- 1991.) She then embarked on her maiden voyage, the 9 month Rhythm Nation World Tour 1990. It still holds the record for largest debut tour by ANY artist(2 million attendance record), not to mention a 7 minute sell lout of her Tokyo Dome dates...which was professionally recorded and broadcast in Japan. I am lucky enough to have a bootleg copy of that DVD which was May 19th, 1990. I turned ten years old a few days later on May 24th. So this album has been a part of my life for a long time. I am now a 42 year old man STILL in amazement at this album.
I remember the day this aired on MTV, I was speechless! My mom bought the vhs and I spent the entire month learning the choreography to every song and then performed it for my family. This is when Janet became the big sister lol. Loved her ever since! Thanks for uploading.
@@damein5469 Michael made a false claim on his home video that she asked to borrow his military dancing for Rhtyhm Nation, which was a complete lie. "Moonwalker" was up against "Rhythm Nation" for a Grammy for the Best Long Form Video in 1990, and he lost to her, which he couldn't stand, given he had spent $22 million of his own money on "Moonwalker", only to lose to his sister. MJ put that lie out over 10 years after "Rhythm Nation" because at the time, Janet was riding high with her 5th consecutive #1 album, while MJ's star was continuing to fade. He's not as saintly as his fans think he is. He hated to lose and could be quite petty.
@@hutch1197 lol i also heard from reading LA REIDs book that MJ sabotaged one of his brothers, i think jermaine, while hiring he and babyface to work with him instead of his brother whom they had first agreed to work with. then mike didn't even use their music because he was just stalling to keep them occupied while his brothers album never got their attention. shady sh*t. but i swore i heard janet say she borrowed that concept from mike as well. who knows
@@hutch1197 I would like to know where you got this information from. All Michael said was that Janet wanted to use the military aesthetic for rhythm nation from captain EO and he agreed. Captain EO's choreography was military styled. How do you know that he was lying? Are you just speculating or do you have any proof?
@@tintu2476 Because he lied all the time. He claimed far fewer plastic surgeries than he got. After he died, his Mother confirmed he was lying to the public for decades. He claimed he was dating Brooke Shields in 1991. She denied they ever dated. He claimed in an interview not to be in debt. After he died, public records revealed his estate was $200 million in debt. (It only recovered when people started buying up his merchandise after he died.) As far as "Rhythm Nation", there was a documentary released with the film. The military choreography was created by a street dancer named Anthony Thomas, whom Janet hired for the project. There is documented proof of Anthony teaching everyone the choreography in 1989. Then Michael claimed credit for this man's work over 10 years later. In conclusion: Michael has a claim in a home movie. Janet has the receipts. Case closed.
Imagine if Pokemon took place in the 1970s and 1980s. The characters would dress up to the groovy outfits that defy the decades. They would experience real-life events including the Vietnam War, the Watergate Scandal, Disco, the Cold War and threats of racism, fascism, nazism, communism, and sexism. That would've been brilliant in my opinion.
Also I remember it was 1991 when I found the videotape random in a very old record store. I didn’t know about the film I just bought because it was Janet when I get back home and put the tape in my video I was blown away wtf I just watched. It took me by surprise, I have never watched something like this before and also no one prepares me for this. I will never forget that. I love Janet since that day ❤
OMG ive never looked at the short film before!! What a better time than now when we coming up on the 30th anniversary of the juggernaut known as Rhythm Nation 1814!
5:41 is Black Cat - probably the closest she got to playing a straight ahead Rock tune thanks to her vocal delivery and an excellent guitar riff - but unlike the other 3 songs in this compilation it is incomplete (why I didn't "tag" it above) … this could easily have crossed over and played this on Rock & Roll radio stations ...
@@pastateconstablesoffice THe Knowledge was also incomplete, because it's didn't have lyrics in this short. ''Miss You Much'' was the radio edit, and the title track was hugely edit compared of the radio edit. ''Miss You Much'' and ''Rhythm Nation'' of this short was also used of the official music video.
I just watched the A&E Documentary on Janet and I have to say, as if I didn't love her already, that film made me love her and respect her even more. The woman is a legend, an icon and deserves all the flowers in the world while she's still with us on this earth.
I just finished watching her Doc, that's why I'm here...Always been a fan but never knew this even existed....I had forgotten how beautiful Janet was in the late 90's .....wow....
I can recall watching this on MTV so way back then. The final B/W imagery of the elevator rising and the music of the string instruments imprinted on my mind as a fragmented memory of a video I did not expect to ever see again. Tonight; 25 September 2019, for 30 minutes I was transported back to flashbacks of my younger age of 26 living and going to college in San Diego 1989. Thank you, Sir for uploading the full video. Thank you Janet; because, your Rhythm Nation album was a significant part of my life 1989-1992.
This is a timeless piece of art, no less. A wonderful combination of music from the great talents of Jackson/Jam/Lewis. Add to that an innovative 30-minute music video combining contemporary dancing choreography with elements from film noir and early movie history (re. Metroppolis), and a relevant political/social statement . 33 years later, this is still a treat!
She shaped my childhood with her beautiful light and helped me to break the toxic pain both my parents put on me so that I'll never be anything like them. I use my light for good like Mz Control herself 🖤✊🏿🖤 love my people and our strength!! Our ancestors are fueling us relentlessly to bring real change!! I pray we do so 🧘🏾♀️✌🏾🧘🏾♀️ #liljanet
Most underrated album ever. Not sure I know of any other albums 30+ years old that are still completely relevant today. A true masterpiece I’m so glad I can appreciate. ❤️
This Album is not underrated, it was inducted into The National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress. It is recognized as one of the best albums ever recorded.
I personally haven't heard this album or seen this video in over twenty years until today. I mostly listen to old school heavy rock/metal music. But I kid you not, the issues and messages from this album and the video are as Villald said in his comment, "It is 2020 and this is still relevant. Actually it feels more relevant than ever!". He's 100% right. During my life, I have been to many concerts (Mostly rock/metal) but the Rhythm Nation concert was the best one I ever went to and it still is. Even to this day, I still believe in the issues and messages raised by it. I know this may sound strange coming from a Heavy rock/metal fan, but the Rhythm Nation 1814 album is my personal favorite of all time and always will be. one of the most important messages that Janet said and she is 100% right was at the end of the album and this movie. *In complete darkness we are all the same, it is only our knowledge and wisdom that separates us. Don't let your eyes deceive you*
I had this on VHS and watched it until the tape was lost, one of my favorite short film by and ICONIC Icon Queen, it was filmed in Black & White which was the ONLY way the film should have been filmed, it has true character and it touches many different aspects in the music industry, in a way a behind the scenes of the life of a very talented Female Artist who is still GOING STRONG!!!! Love You Miss. Jackson Forever live the QUEEN!!!! This was done over 30 plus years and to me tells a story we all can relate to TODAY!!!
Janet make this in 1989 that says everything. This is a piece of art. The direction the atmosphere the message the music everything is on top. She won a Grammy for this very well deserved.
