Check out Throb performance on Saturday Night Live! Janet rocked the house with that performance and was styled by Jean Paul Gualtier, iconic song and she sang Anytime, Anyplace as well on SNL

Your analogy of starting at the club and ending up in the bedroom was genius!! And omg I never noticed the storyline!!

This album was different to the two last albums. Because she wanted to slow the aggressive sound of ''Rhythm Nation 1814'' and the funk/RnB sound of ''Control''. She making a lighthing album who the concept was love and romance. The opera singer of ''This Time'' was Kathleen Battle''. Depist the album wasn't innovative like ''Control'' and ''Rhythm Nation 1814'', this album was know who Janet easy all styles, with RnB (''That's the Way Love Goes'', ''Where Are You Now'', ''Any Time, Any Place''), opera (This Time), jazz (Funky Big Band), Bossa Nova (The Body That Loves You), New Jack Swing (''Because of Love'', ''You Want This''), rock (If, What I'II Do), House (Throb), Hip-hop/rap (New Agenda) and pop (Again, Whoops Now), who i consider a extansion of Janet musical styles. ''Again'' was a surprise whe it's came out in third single, because at the base, her songs was in the RnB (including the ballads), but not ''Again'' who it's was very a pop ballad in the style of adult contempary artists like Céline Dion. The singles of the album was: 1. ''That's the Way Love Goes'', 2. ''If'' (who it's was planned has the first single originally by Virgin, but Janet insisted to released instead ''That's the Way Love Goes''), 3. ''Again'', 4. ''Because of Love'', 5. ''Any Time, Any Place'' and 6. ''You Want This''. ''Whoops Now'' was also released as the last non-US single, but never released in US. All the six singles of the album reaching the top 10 in US (with ''That's the Way Love Goes'' and ''Again'' reaching n.1). ''Any Time, Any Place'' was edit to a four and half minutes for the radio version and the music video video used the radio version. Two versions was released in the video and radios, the original version for the RnB/Adult Contempary radios and a remix of R Kelly was released of urban radios, contributes of the success of the song in Canada and US. For info, ''Whoops Now'' was a hidden track, wasn't listed at all in the listing, but it's was on the album. It's have a minute of silence between the interlude ''Sweet Dreams'' and this song before it's started in the CD version

Love your reaction! Keep up the great work! Just wanted to add a fun fact that you may not have known... Janet was the only Jackson (in her family) that had been nominated for an Academy Award (Oscar), for the song "Again", which was on the soundtrack for the movie, "Poetic Justice"... wish she would've won! P.S. Your reaction to "This Time" brought tears to my eyes.

Whoops Now was a hidden track on the CD, but your review and reaction are spot on! It was a trend back in the 90s to do 20+ tracks on a CD to boost sales. But, you had to be there. People played albums to keep them company at home and for others to experience. I miss, however, the journeys that albums took us on. Now, albums are all about streams.

I think about this a lot! For example, nowadays there’s also some pressure to listen to music for the purpose of boosting streaming numbers, and not just listening for the sake of enjoying! I caught myself doing that just the other day

Good observation regarding the length of the tracks. Music used to be about the album, Janet specifically had albums that took you on a journey. Every album was truly an era that would last for 2-3 yrs. Now music today is all about the singles. Janet always had shortened version edit used for single/radio play Re: New Agenda. She regrets putting it on the album and not the song “And On & On” which is on youtube. Its one of my favorite unreleased Janet tracks Also “Again” was Oscar nominated

There was no video for “This Time” but Janet has footage of live performances of “This Time” from the “janet. Tour” that she’s just been sitting on for years. “What’ll I Do” is a cover song by a man named Johnny Daye back in the late 60s.

I know I’m 2 weeks late, but I had to comment on your comments about the moans on “Throb” . Janet did the thing on this, but the queen of erotic moans on a song is Disco legend Donna Summer on her hit “Love To Love You Baby” . If you’ve never heard it, give it a listen. At the time it came out I was about 13 and my mom used to tell me to turn off that nasty song! 😆 And “Again” is one Janet’s biggest ballads, it’s from the film Poetic Justice and was nominated for an Academy award. It lost to Bruce Springsteen’s song from the the movie Philadelphia.

Spotify was screwing up the interludes for U. They flowed perfectly on tape/CD back in the day. BUT it was so annoying when shuffling your music on iTunes and just getting random interludes. 🙄

Maybe it depends on what platform you're on? The interludes flow perfectly whenever I listen to her albums on Spotify.

Prince starting the trend of woman moaning sexually in songs ….not rappers. However Donna Summer did it first on Love to Love You Baby.

Interludes are transitions.Without them songs would make no sense leading into another. She's taking you on a journey.

Agreed. But this album was so interlude-heavy compared to her other works, guess she was just fooling around in the studio.
