So basically a Jang video. Thought you'd show some side-by-side germination/spacing comparisons. But you just tossed earthway aside at the beginning lol

I use the Earthway and the Hoss seeders. The Earthway is setup to be used behind one of the garden tractors. It is used mainly for the larger seeds, I.e., peas ,beans , corn, etc. Was not quite satisfied using it with small seeds, so bought the Hoss for that. At this point it is still a push model, one of these days will build the framework to put it behind the garden tractor too. With the Earthway have found it works best if tilted slightly to the right as you are planting. (think the hitch gives it a five degree tilt) as a side note all my small seeds are pelleted. Am a much smaller grower than yourself. Biggest selling item for me is beets. Keep putting out the great information you do.

I have a large (2500 sq.ft.) garden and I quite like my Earthway seeder. Comparing the Earthway to the Jang is like comparing apples and oranges. The Jang is more machine, but at about $500 vs. $120 for the Earthway, it should be! The Jang is perhaps a great investment for a market garden but not so much for the home garden.

As others have said, why so little about the Earthway? Farming is pretty brutal with the low profit and these decisions about expensive tools can become pretty stressful. Wish you had done a review on the Earthway even half of what you did on the Jang. As we know, most beginning farmers start with the Earthway of necessity though of course we all would prefer the Jang.

I am using the earthway. It seems to work fine with the larger seeds such as beets and corn. I am struggling with the finer seeds. If the hopper only has one package, for example, carrots, the disc has a hard time picking them up. Also, my lettuce and carrots do not come up! Do you have any advice?

@18deadmonkeys
@18deadmonkeys 5 лет назад
Good god, your beds are so pristine. Please tell me at least your sock drawer is a mess. I use the Earthway seeder, but my beds are very rocky and often times have lots of dead grass clumps to stop the furrow. To deal with that, I drag my furrows with a hoe, raise the furrow on the seeder, and use it to drop the seeds, cover, and tamp. A bit of extra effort until I get that new Jang that's on my wish list.

My TD1 had terrible singulation when I planted pumpkins with it. I’m wondering if it was a brush setting or user error. Was so frustrating. Plus, I had to drill my own holes for pumpkin seeds.

Honestly i priced some of those seeders and for the same price i can get a gas powered one. Does the same thing with less wear and tear on my body. And no i am not worried about the climate. I will take gas powered over manual any day. If the big guys are so worried about the weather then they to ground their planes.

The thing is I bought one B1000 and I planted Asian corn seeds but they looked like smaller seed sizes than sweets corns,so it made them drop double every move... How can I solve that problem? Big holes but smaller seeds..

Yo Like the video, how do you address the watering of seeded beds with the wobblers? I like the wobblers but currently I use T-tape, but I dislike constantly having to replace the plastic lines.
@JoshSattinFarming
@JoshSattinFarming 5 лет назад
I'm not sure I completely understand your question. The Wobblers are awesome. If you are asking about watering direct seeded crops, they work well if you get the coverage right and put out water often enough.

@matprather5833 5 лет назад
Another comment for anyone to find it useful: I ordered a roller for peas and the roller was good but the peas are somewhat square-ish and would get clogged in the hopper so using the Jang for peas didn't work for me.

I got several cuts off of it last year. It is technically a perennial, but I grow it as an annual.

Thanks for the response! Do you plant it pretty close together or give it space to grow? This is my first year growing it and have only seen people grow it their gardens with just a few individual plants and harvesting leaves as they needed.
@JoshSattinFarming
@JoshSattinFarming 5 лет назад
I grow it pretty close together like a baby green. If you want bigger leaves then grow it further apart. I still have a bunch of experimenting to do with it this season. It's a tasty green.

No side marker to mark the next row.... Like the Earthway..? That's a MUST for me... I do sweetcorn, marker keeps me at the right width for my Troybilt tiller to go between the rows later for cultivating and hilling... $500 with a few rollers is a bit much.. I do consider it the Cadillac, but I'm a Chevy Guy..... just saying.. Nice Video tho dude..!
@guillaumerusso3780
@guillaumerusso3780 3 года назад
Jang does have a marker, you have to pay extra for it though... But it isnt a Cadillac, in Europe we have another one, called the 'Ebra', its really a great seeder, but twice the price of the Jang!
@ptrain9020
@ptrain9020 5 лет назад
I have the jang also, but I have a question. At what depth is the furrow opener set at so that you don't bury the seeds too far down. Seeds like carrots cannot be buried that far down or they won't have enough energy to reach the top.
