This is probably one of the most visceral, beautiful and sad songs ever written...the lyrics just haunt you. 'the worst you can say about me is that I am never satisfied'. 'please don't leave me lord I feel so useless down here', 'trying to live when you are all alone', it's like a cry for help put into music...

Okay I am a 68 year old woman from Canada who has been rocking Janice and she will be my number one till I die and this song and little girl Blues are my go to songs when I'm feeling blue😢😢😢 I'm feeling very emotional today and I haven't heard this in a while when she says she feels so useless down here it took me back to when I was 18 and was listening to this and was questioning also and 50 years later still listening and still questioning😮😮 does everyone else feel like they're A Stranger in a Strange Land and questioning what is going on why am I here

Even now I have those days she is talking about. and I think most of us have, that's why so many people still listen to her. It takes a special kind of person to love a person as special as Janis Joplin, but I'm sure someone (many people) alive at that time could have loved her satisfactorily, if she didn't suffer from childhood demons of insecurities. I love Janis Joplin. I started listening to this mowan as an early teen. I'm a grown women and she still feel her pain and sadness. Wanting to fit in and feeling loveless. As I society outcast, I had a friend to turn too.

My gosh, she could turn it on. Looking at the Woodstock version of this song, she was talking kind of exasperated in introducing the song, from apparently her last number, and just cranked it when the music started. This girl left no stone unturned and left no doubt that somebody had been there. If I had a soundtrack to my life, this song, Piece of my heart, and Summertime would be in it.

This song was the end of the Blues. After this, there was just nowhere left for the Blues to go.

I have the feeling that, unfortunately, this song fitted her pretty good. Maybe it why that she is still sounding so much pain in her heart in every song. For me the best blues and rock singer ever. Too much heart and soul in her voice.

Few like Janis poured their hearts out in a song back then. Jackie Wilson was another one who practically collapsed on stage when he hit a high note. People leave marks on us when they leave. Joplin is no exception. In this song she says 'I feel so useless down here'. Maybe these weren't just lyrics.
