Happy new year and welcome back to our cottage garden. Just a quick tour for you today while our plants are mostly dormant. We are building up a supply of hellebores and snowdrops around the garden to build some Winter interest. These have only just started flowering - stay tuned to see more of those next month. I'm also pruning my roses now, so I'll show you how I'm doing that. Thanks for watching!

I really like that you show us things in the state they are, unweeded or untidied. That’s what gardens actually look like when you are doing all the work and don’t have staff. It doesn’t detract from them, I think, you can still tell that each part of the garden has been touched with love.

Agree! Natural gardens are the best!

Thank you so much for writing this ❤. I know what you mean I find gardens quite intimidating when they are perfectly manicured

I agree! I can't bear overly clipped, tidy gardens, u find them soulless ! All gardens in my humble opinion should be nurtured to nurture nature,! Habitat piles of wood, plenty of plants to attract pollinators!

So fascinating with a garden that actually has flowers in January. For me living by the arctic circle it is like fairy land...here we will have snow all the way into the beginning of May. (At the moment the day is less then 2h long)

I have always been so envious of the UK’s climate in Winter. When I lived in Scotland for a year it was amazing to see all the flowers in February. I live in what feels like an arctic tundra 😂. We don’t see things grow here until April. I am itching to get back to gardening. Hellebores are on my list to add to my garden this year. I love them as well. The pruning tips were great!

I love to see your flowers and bulbs beginning to pop through the soil ! Where I live , in a high Desert climate , our ground has been frozen solid since November. Nothing grows here during the winter except for cold/flu germs , which we’ve had our fair share . I dream of things greening up , but gave quite a ways to go yet . Late March , early April for us !

@@monalogue yes I have big plans this year. I am hoping to build a greenhouse with the possibility of storing my tropical plants in it during the winter months. I also want to build up my flower beds more.

You were a huge inspiration to me to get planting up my postage stamp rented garden a few months ago. Now I have shoots of daffodils and crocuses popping up everywhere, and many more surprises in pots and in the ground that will bloom in later months. It certainly gives me something to look forward to in these bleak winter days :D

I never knew about hellebore, until I started u- tube gardening so I’m going to be trying to find some, I’m In Zone 5 USA, I just recently found your channel so I have subscribed….I do not have autism but I find nothing odd about your loving gardening at a young age, I’m just glad you have found something that helps you thrive…you seem a breath of fresh air to me and I’m in my 60’s…I love that wattle fence, did you make it? Love your stone cottage,I watched the tour when I couldn’t sleep…you are a very blessed young lady… I’ll be keeping up.

I've been meaning to tell you about a hack I discovered for planting small shallow bulbs like crocus and snow drops. I bought a Standing Plant Root Remover (weed puller) and it makes the perfect small hole and is much easier than a hand bulb planter, at least that's what I found in my horrible clay soil. Loving your videos! Can't wait for spring xx

I planted about a hundred bulbs in the lawn of our new home after seeing your videos last year. It'll be a couple more months before we get to see them. I also put in two beds of irises and day lilies that I got from a plant rescue. I'm so excited to see how everything will look this year.

I loved the look around your garden. You might find snowdrops will establish more quickly if you plant them ‘in the green’ that is after they have flowered but whilst they still have leaves, they tend to grow better. Good luck - we’ve just moved to a new house so I am starting to create my 4th garden - the wildflower lawn and bulbs were the first things to go in. Next stop some trees and bare root roses.

Love your garden updates, we have the same climate here in Ireland. :) I did not know the old leaves were good for the soil.. .I always clean them from my flower beds now I feel so stupid!! :O
@monalogue
@monalogue Год назад
Thanks so much 😊 it’s not stupid don’t worry! I think people have always talked about them as though they are a mess and should be removed so it makes sense we end up clearing them away
