JANUARY READING WRAP UP 📚 

Fourth wing - as someone who doesn’t normally read fantasy I loved it but can totally understand why people who do normally read them would not find it great ❤

I love how the "Bye-Ooooh" ending seems to be expanding more and more with every video 😂 I'm actually going to rave about a new favourite I finished last night that I feel is entirely too underrated --- Greymist Fair by Francesca Zappia! The writing was so whimsical and I was sucked right into the story to the point that I entirely forgot I was reading at all. The book itself is broken down into several smaller stories that end up painting the larger picture of the town of Greymist and it truly has all the vibes (including the elements of horror) that original Grimm fairytales have! Highly recommend for anyone looking for an atmospheric read, who loves fairytales and entirely-too-short chapters

I just checked my Goodreads and I read/listened to 11 books this month, I am incredibly proud of myself! 🥳 Some highlights of this month were The Poppy War, Gallant and Red White and Royal Blue. I was personally disappointed with The Shades of Magic trilogy as a whole (but I did love the first book)...and Fourth Wing. Still an awesome month of reading for me and I truly enjoyed most of my reads!

If you haven’t read Divine Rivals, I would read it! It’s my first Rebecca Ross book and loved it. I also loved Fourth Wing.

January was reading slump for me. I only read on two days. so I decided to finally make my reading journal, so I'll be more motivated. than i saw my bingo I already make and saw the trope 'at least one book each month', it was in the evening at this time :D soooo I did the only right thing, I read the thinnest book I have :'D 38 pages, I even couldn't give that a rating, it feels like an sample haha but at least, I read a book :) but the reading journal really helps, I'm actually motivated QwQ I've read 3 manga so far (including 2 thick omnibus editions)✨ (edit: I hope my english is not too bad qwq)

I hear you about reading a lot but still wishing you'd read more. Last year I got back into reading after many years of only reading a couple of books a year. This year, I started a reading journal for the first time. Last year, I read a book a week on average. So I set a goal of 52 books, and left space in the journal for 72 books. In January, I read 11 books. I might have to tape extra pages into my trackers in the reading journal. On the other hand, I plan to read Anna Karenina in March, and that might take the whole month.

I listened to Spare last year as part of an Audible free trial. Like you, I thought some things were too detailed in particular his military experience but overall I enjoyed it. A River Enchanted has now been bumped up my TBR list as quite a few BookTubers I like have recommended it. Last month I read 14 books & my 5 star reads were Salt To The Sea, Babel & All The Light We Cannot See.

I'm happy you loved Untethered Sky! I keep meaning to read it and don't know why I have been putting it off since it's so short! Now you need to read more from Fonda Lee!

Rebecca Ross is literally my favorite writer, I own all of her books and my favorite book of all time (Sisters of Sword and Song) is by her and it is actually the reason I want to become a writer/editor :). PLEASEEEE read all of her books

I read Yellowface in January too (also gave it 4 🌟, it was great!) and I'm in the middle of Happy Place right now 😂 🧡

Ahh everyone is convincing me to read Yellowface! My fav read from January was Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter, the characters made me smile and laugh so much with their banter! You should definitely read it. The 3rd act conflict made me really sad but that’s my only complaint.

I also loved Happy Place!! Definitely my favorite Emily Henry book!

I love 4th wing so far that I have been reading. I’m ignoring all hate on it and criticism or even red flags😂

I'm so glad you mentioned that Godkiller has 4 povs because I will not be picking it up now. I love it dual POV but I can't stand more than that if it happens more than a couple times

Rating and writing reviews for memoirs are probably the most difficult thing you'll ever do. I used to do this - I'd look at the writing style and that was basically it. But after a time, it didn't get easier as I had thought it would. It's best to not rate and review a memoir, or even a biography.

Seriously considering reading a river enchanted...

I read Project Hail Mary and it ended up being my favorite book in such a long time. Not too sciencey where it confusing but the storyline was 😘🤌🏽 chefs kiss

Good reading month !! Fourth Wing wasn’t for me either. I loved the beginning but then as soon as the romance part came I was immediately pissed and done. And the dragons cursing threw me off big time ! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Happy Place and River Enchanted are both *CHEFS KISS* I will say, I prefer Rebecca Ross's adult books over her YA. I think there is just a certain refinement to her adult writing that is lacking in her YA. But that might be an unpopular opinion since I know a lot of people really love Divine Rivals.

I didnt love Happy Place, but i do agree it was better than Booklovers.

Honestly, my January month wasn't that great in terms of reading. The best book I read was A Mirror Mended, which I did enjoy quite a bit. This month has been going better in quality and quantity. I just got my first five star read of the year that wasn't a reread. I think I have lowkey gone off on an Alix E. Harrow binge because in the past few months I have read A Spindle Splintered, Once and Future Witches, A Mirror Mended, and now, just finished today, Starling House. That one is honestly my favourite out of all of these. A River Enchanted sounds really good, and I will be looking into that one. I had similar thoughts about the ending to Yellowface. It is hard to explain but it almost felt like it went a little off the rails. Like you said, it was little too dramatic at the very end.

2:21 Oh my, I finished Iron Flame in January and my goodness with this book not only did it give me so much second hand embarrassment and cringe; it became frustrating. But it does have a crazy ending! So yes! It can be cringy and really frustrating but yup I wanna know where does the story go after what happens at the end of Iron Flame! So yes do not go in with any expectations but that the ending is mind blowing.

I still haven’t read fourth Wing 😬
