Something I found out this past month about these young girls is, Their Managers make most of the money from their song sales and from tickets to her show. they only get maybe around 5%, this also goes for shirts and other items. they are locked into a long-term contract " IE 10+ years to even 20 years at a young age" and in Japan, these contracts can't be broken by the girls. they are forced to go on dates with older men from record companies to DJs from radio stations to get their songs played. I visited Osaka in 2008. It was wild to see older men, sat in public with comic book porn. The professor at the maid cafe had some really insightful remarks 👍🏻 And as a foreigner living in Japan for almost 20 yeras, I would also like to add something that is not told at all in this reportage: most of the audience coming to the music live performances in Japan (at least Tokyo) are middle aged men (and women) - or even older people, no matter the kind of performance; if it's a foreign or not foreign band of men or women. For some reason in Japan young people don't often go to these musical events. It still is a bit of a mystery to me why, but a few of my guesses are: young people are busy with other things like work/study, they don't have a lot of opportunity to stumble upon different forms of music/entertainment. And young people might not have the same monetary freedom compared to older people. Going to live performances can be a bit expensive, and the price of these have really increased quite a bit over the last 10 or so years.
