PART 1 of Essential Things to know before travelling to Japan🇯🇵 especially if this is your first time visiting Japan!
1) Card or Cash
Whilst there are heaps of places, shops, cafes and restaurants in big cities like Tokyo accept credit or debit card, we still recommend you to have some cash. Especially if you are travelling around small cities as lots of shops still accept cash only💴 Withdraw from 7-Eleven ATMs which available literally everywhere in Japan.
2) Google Maps are super powerful in Japan as in it tells you exactly how to get to place with train for example, tell you how much does the journey cost and even which platform or exit gates to take! Google Translate is surely very useful to roughly know what’s the Japanese writing js about, sometimes not 100% accurate but still useful☺️ We can’t speak Japanese or understand Japanese but these two apps help us a lot, so don’t worry if you don’t understand Japanese! There are lots of English sign and English menu in the restaurants these days 😊
3) Expect to queue everywhere in Japan especially famous places either food, shops, attractions etc. Some queues can be really crazy 2 hours for food so if there is booking system, book it in advance. You can ask your hotel concierge or someone who can speak Japanese to book over the phone too☎️

I would also recommend getting a pasmo card when in Japan. It’s only a 500yen deposit and you use it like a debit card and it’s easier to use for buses and trains rather then carrying cash or buying tickets.

I highly recommend learning a small amount of Japanese especially if you visit outside Tokyo, at least basic terms like “Where is the closest ATM/Convenience store/Train station?” And how to order at restaurants, it’s a difficult language but common terms like that can be a huge help! Also keep a look out for scams, a common one it to give foreigners a separate menu with higher prices since they probably can’t read the Japanese menu with the real price. Looking up etiquette like how to behave on the train or at temples/shrines can save embarrassment, foreigners also get a bad rep for being loud and disrespectful and it’s important to learn about a culture before/during your visit!

when we went to kobe for some yakiniku, we made the poor decision of going on a weekend with all spots filled. so while roaming, we found a spot which was near empty that looked super luxurious. we had the greatest yakiniku meal finished with cold ramen, and everyone was happy. but after the meal, we found out that the shop worked on reservation and we were super lucky to have gotten a empty space just for us, especially since we went in 1-2 hours before closing time. reservation is super important in certain shops and i doubt we would have been able to get in if not for the japanese speakers we had even if their shop was empty! bless their yakiniku shop...

Japanese is the most difficult language to learn in the world, as recognized by the US government. The people who have the hardest time learning it are European and English native speakers, who take an average of 15 years to learn it. Unfortunately, all foreign translation apps that are not made by Japanese people born in Japan, such as Google, do not work in Japanese at the moment. If possible, I recommend that you hire a Japanese guide when you come to Japan. Recently, the Japanese yen has become worthless, so Christians who came to Japan for tourism, business, and medical checkups have been ravaging Japan, and the Japanese have endured about 80 years since the Pacific War until the weakening caused by US colonial rule, but even if there were no Japanese swords, they would still be angry, even if they were to become human bombs, burn the whole country to the ground, and eat human flesh like in the old days.
