This is a guide for the Japan eVisa application process for those considering to visit Japan. Especially for trips under 15 days.
I produced this video to share my experience and important tips that will save you time and hassle.
I had a five day trip to Tokyo, Japan with my family. I am based in New York City, I flew in to Cebu, Philippines before heading to Japan. It was a Summer side trip while I was visiting home. It was such an enjoyable experience. Even if we were only based in Tokyo the entire time, there is still so much to do and so many things to see. I encourage you to put Japan on your list of travel priorities. It satisfies all the senses, and ticks every box for a dream vacation.

Just got my visa today, took exactly 7 working days for all the process, the application was so easy I only had a hard time uploading my photo and my IDs which you’ve also mention, coz they’re really strict with file size, even if I put my photo settings into the least quality still didn’t meet the required size, so what I did was I took a photo of my ID then screen shot it and crop it, and it worked,😂😂 Really big thanks to your informative video, though one thing I didn’t follow from your vid was to include my flight from LA - MNL - JPN in my itinerary since my point of origin is also from US, but I guess they consider it through my round trip ticket which I also sent them. Now we’re just waiting for fiancé’s visa to get approved🙏🙏 then we’re all set for our honeymoon in 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🎉🎉🎉

Hi Daniel, I just got my visa today. Your video is really helpful. They are fast and accurate. 5 working days processing, my uncomfortable feeling and anxiousness days turn excitement 😅. Because of my tight schedule flights, I thought it will not be happening to process my visa within the length of 2 weeks.(but jus turned 1 week). I applied NYC also, and also said "payment is exemption". I hope this ok.as long as i view my evisa. Thank you again❤

Do you know if they put a sticker visa on your passport when you arrive at the airport or they just stamp you in??

@@The9jaboy they place a tiny sticker in lieu of a stamp. Indicating how long u can stay. Sadly no visa sticker. -- If u want for keep sake, screenshot ur evisa. Cuz that gets deleted once it’s out of date.

Hi there, I’m on the same boat. My evisa was issued but for some reason I didn’t get the request for payment before the issuance of the evisa. Were you asked to pay the fee? I’m a little worried that something might go wrong since that step was skipped.

Hi Daniel, just to check , do we need to follow up exact date of departure that we submitted when apply for evisa, or we can change the trip within the period of 3 months they issued? As

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Was checking my records and couldn’t find a copy of my evisa. I guess they delete it after the time period. I should have just screen shot it. As I can remember, the validity of the visa usually starts on ur initial intended day of arrival in Japan. I’m almost 100% sure you can move ur travel dates as long as it’s after ur initial arrival date. 🥰 Found this for u: ur right, as long as within 3 mos of issuance. www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/faq.html#:~:text=A1%3A%20The%20period%20of%20validity,to%20make%20another%20visa%20application.

sir. question. I apply visa my application always get returned they always about the funds I'm traveling with my husband and my son. they are both U.S citizens I'm the only one who needs a visa, so I submitted my husband's statement bank account since we both used that bank can you help me with it?

I have a question, for bank statement, does it have to be printed copy from the bank? Like I can issue bank statement instantly from the bank’s app, but don’t know if that’s acceptable

Hi, I used my bank statement from the app too. Downloaded a statement from my bank app and then uploaded it to the evisa site. 👍🏻✨

Hi, thanks for the informative video. I have applied, and they got back to me to send through additional documents. Do I send these additional documents in my email response to their email… or am I supposed to re-upload these additional documents on the e-visa website and resubmit?

Hi! I think I know what u mean. Check the file size. I had to resize and attempted to save several times. Also.. don’t resize too low cuz it will make the copy burry. I try to resize to a file size close to the maximum limit. Hope this helps.

Hi Daniel! Did you fly with Cebu Pacific from Cebu to Japan? Just had my evisa granted but im quite concerned the check in counter for Ceb Pac is not well informed about evisas. 😅

Hi! We flew Philippine airlines. No worries. Just look confident and show them ur evisa when u check in. The lady at my counter looked puzzled and called her supervisor. It worked out. The evisa has every info they need to document: visa no. And dates. You’ll be fine 👍🏻 and lots of people are actually using this method.

Hi, I wonder if I’m a university student, I should fill my university name, telephone number and address in ADRESS *employer (company/school/university) section or should I just fill (-) because I’m not working for any company? And how about I go for a trip 5 days, and I book the hotel first 2 nights in Osaka hotel and last 2 nights in Tokyo hotel. So, I should fill both 2 hotels names or choose only 1 hotel in Accommodation or Hotel name section?

Hi! You can write down your University address. If the form asks for phone number - you can write that too. Fill both hotel names & u can indicate their days. 👍🏻

Hi! I am going to South Korea first and then to Japan. My visa application for Korea is pending. Would I need to show my Korean visa later on? I already applied for eVisa and there was no such requirement. I submitted my my flight itinerary with Korea too cause I assumed that was enough.

Hi, I have a question! What does a flight itinerary look like? It that just providing proof of your flight to Japan? Also, another question, do we need to provide proof of a flight exiting Japan at the end of the trip? I only have purchased a ticket for entering Japan, and not yet for exiting.

Hi! Yes, a flight [itinerary] is proof of a booked flight. And Yes, you need to show proof of a booking for a return flight. --This is to determine your intended length of stay.

Just want to ask, yung sakin kasi nag submit ako ng additional requirement (COE) last April 8 and nakalagay sa email that they sent is need to wait for 5 working days. Ikaw ba nung nag additional requirement ka how many days bago mo na receive yung visa? My flight is on April 18 and medyo anxious na ko. 😢 Thank you sa time mo.

Hi! (2) days after I sent additional document - I got my eVisa issued. The advantage of eVisa is u can actually wait up to the last minute. It looks like u still have time. Praying for u. & I trust they work faster than 5 working days. 👍🏻 You got this!

Hi i got my e visa complete now. But system shows waiting to download the e notice. How long should I wait for it to be downloaded cos its been a week already since the message shows there “The visa issuance is complete, dont forget to print it before you depart to Japan”

Hi! Oh no. Sometimes their website might be down. Have u tried using a different browser or device to check? And is there an email somewhere where u can email them? I’m sure it’s a glitch.

Hi! I actually used chatgpt. I asked make me a 5 day itinerary for Tokyo. (Or you could Google things to do in said locations). And then just say “morning doing this. Afternoon doing this. Evening doing this.” It all doesn’t have to be definite and booked out. They just want to know u have “plans” to tour around :)

Hi! I think I know what you mean. I did have some issues uploading and cropping pic in their site. Here’s what I did: 1. I would log out and log in again. If it doesn’t work, I’d do it the following day. (I think sometimes they reboot their systems). *same for uploading files if you have any issue. Just log out and log in again. 2. I edited/cropped my photo within their system. Had to do it several times. If your pic is too close up, I would open that pic in a different canvas. Ensure background of canvas is same as background of pic, and then zoom out, and screen shot. - then try to upload and hopefully ur pic/face will fit within the circle of their required photo size. ***but my bet is number 1. I hope this helps. 🙏🏻

Hi! They asked to see my visa so I had to log in. Yes, when I was exiting the Philippines, I had to hand in my passport and mobile phone with the eVisa showing. They didn’t ask me to log in in front of them, so maybe u can do a screen shot just as a fail safe. When I arrived in Japan technically they didn’t ask to see a visa. I just volunteered to show it to them. No problem! Glad this video helped!

Hi! I’m looking at the Japan Embassy in Singapore Site now. The checklist does state ‘Income Tax Notice of Assessment’ 👍🏻 OR Updated bank statement. You should be good :)

Japan foreign ministry encourages tourism. They are not very strict and will guide you on what is needed to obtain a visitor visa.

Hi Daniel, Did you pay for the e visa? It states on their website that before issuance, they’ll send an email where you can pay for the fee electronically. Did you receive that email?

You think there will be any hold up if I have a lay over in the Philippines?because my airline is PAL and it has like a few hours layover. Of course i will not be going out on the philippine side since its only a few hours. like you i am a philippine passport holder and i am just worried they will be looking all these bs documents like OEC and whatnot. That’s a very good question: 1. If it’s purely a layover from international location to international location, you should be fine. **as long as they keep you within international departure areas. Saw this at the PAL website: www.philippineairlines.com/en/before-you-fly/at-the-airport/connecting-flights Which means u should be okay. 👍🏻

Just worry. I booked the hotel but only included the flight reservation in my application mail. Not sure if that’s going to be an issue. It says only proof of flight ticket for round-trip. 😢

Hello! Just wondering how did you scan your id cards and passport? they cancelled my application because they said my driver license, PR card and passport are blurry. When I checked the documents I submitted I think they were okay and readable. I scanned everything using my printer's scanner. Now I am worried they won't proceed with my application again.

Hi! I’m sorry about that. I actually just took a picture of my license & PR card. I scanned my passport. It’s important to take note of the file size of the final scanned/saved image. The Japan website has a limited file size that they accept. What’s tricky is when you upload ur images to the website it will ask you what size of file to upload it as. Try not to choose the lowest option. Look at your scanned images and find a way to save & decrease file size without compromising clarity. Try to email those files to yourself to actually see how they look. When in doubt, just take a pic of your docs and as u save it, check ur phone camera settings to choose a lower save file and not make it HD.

Hi Daniel, Thank you so much for such detailed guide! I submitted my evisa on Wednesday May 29 and as for Friday May 31 the status for my evisa application is still temporarily received. Do you think I should withdraw my application and do it again since for flight itinerary I only included round trip flight between Shanghai and Tokyo? Also, when I upload the additional flight itinerary from USA to China, do I also need to upload my return flight itinerary from China to USA? Since you mentioned to upload all flights that lead to Japan, I'm not quite sure if I should upload it or not as I haven't purchased my ticket for return from China to USA. Thanks in advance!

Hi! Yes, I think you should withdraw and reapply while uploading all flights that lead to Japan. This is what happened to me. They asked for the further flights but took them 2 days to process my application once I complied. There are some instances where they will cancel your application and not tell u why. Best to not waste time and be sure :)

Hi! It should be okay. What they want is just to write down ur itinerary for your entire stay, even if it’s just a tentative one.

Hi, Thank you! Re: Hotel reservation, all they need is a reservation (paid or not), and that the hotel exists, and your check in dates are within the visa period. [you are allowed to switch hotels if you change your mind] With regard to activities: it’s reasonable that plans are flexible & tentative. -- they just want to have an idea of your “tourism” intention. They simply ask you write down your plans on their itinerary form. (No need for purchased Disneyland tickets and Mt Fuji tour deals made prior to the trip, for example)

Hi! You can download the application form. The name section is lined which means it has no limit. As long as it is the same name as what’s in your passport.

@@1dreamysky I don’t think it’s necessary. But this was the form they sent me when they requested a detailed plan for my itinerary.

I am also a permanent resident of the US. The problem for me is the flight itinerary. Did your itinerary have a reservation code (or) confirmation number? I am not comfortable purchasing a ticket before getting a visa in hand. Also, my itinerary and date of travel always change. So, I may just download the itinerary format online, make some changes to it and then submit them. Is that the same way you did that too?

Hi! Maybe u can try to book and pay later option and print that out. Or book a flight with free cancellation or change dates. You are correct. They generally recommend u not buy a ticket yet but I have to show proof of travel intention. The eVisa validity will revolve around ur itinerary u submit. My visa validity started started in the day I would travel to Japan based on my itinerary. Yes, download the itinerary form and just fill it up. U can always change when u get to Japan but what’s important are ur travel dates. Disclaimer: I don’t work for the Japanese govt. everything I share is based on my personal experience and research.

*** they are actually very efficient. They are not strict. If something is missing or wrong, they will message u like they did with me. And it got resolved the day after. It’s actually a simple process.

Ideally they advise to not purchase a ticket cuz of possible delays. If you feel that you might have frequent changes and don’t want to buy-buy a ticket, either u you book a flight and pay later (some airlines allow this) and download that reservation. -- or, book/purchase a flight that allows free cancellation. This might cost more but in your case u have the intention of possibly adjusting flight dates or cancelling all together.

Hi quick question, I book a flight on Aug 11 and I submitted all the documents for evisa on May 20. Now it’s been 8days May28 and it’s still stay “temporary received” im just worried. Do they processing it? Thank you

Hi! You are good 👍🏻 their processing time is usually 7 working days. Don’t worry if it says temporary received. Because once they officially receive it, the process it right away with a short turn around time. You will get your evisas in time. It took mine 2 weeks total.

Hi Helen! Were u able to place the different hotel info in the itinerary form? If not, don’t worry. If they need more info, they will email straight away. And once u comply, u get feedback a day later.

@@helenbatister2655 oh I remember now, I think, next time try to combine all hotel bookings into one pdf file. :) that’s how I did it with mine. All I had was 3 pictures of one hotel booking. So I combined the three into one PDF file. And uploaded.

Thankyou for this video. You said you created the itinerary radomly but what about the hotels. I dont want to book hotels or flights until i get the Visa. Did you show some cancellable hotel booking or was it orginal hotel booking itself for 2 weeks. Hi! Our family booked 2 hotels. But the embassy wanted a detailed itinerary of what we were to do on those days. So I had chat GPT make a 5 day itinerary for Tokyo. Of course I picked and edited things that were realistic to do and what interest us. I don’t think there will be an issue with changing hotels. So you are good. This happens. -- what’s important is you take that trip :) A booking confirmation is Fine. The consulate does not expect u to have a final booking. Sadly most hotels don’t offer just simply reservations nor free cancellations. But I’m confident your trip will push through :)

Hi, apologies for the late reply. Was on vacation. - Yes, you will need to apply for a regular visitor visa as your intended stay is over 15 days. (Look up your regions Japanese Consulate website. Hi, Japan definitely would [not] recommend you purchase a ticket before a visa is issued because there is no guarantee. How do u get a ‘dummy’ ticket? I’d suggest, in the process of booking a flight, right before you pay, take a screen shot of the flight details etc. make sure the dates on ur planned flights is the same date of ur accommodations & itinerary (aka visit plans). I believe one user has done this. The key thing is to book and make plans at least 3 months ahead. And send your application. If Japan would like more info on your flight, they will contact you - and if this happens, it means ur visa application is very close to completion. Japan doesn’t give u a hard time. And they understand, and expect that u [don’t] purchase a ticket yet.

@@thedanielgo it’s a website that will book the flight for me for 48th hours and they would give me everything like a real ticket and it is indeed a real ticket just reserved for two days for 18$ so if the embassy would check my flight on the airline website they will find it but only for two days then the reservation will expire and I will but all the information on it and submit it you think it will work? Since it’s kinda real but a heard someone said that they will reject it I don’t know really… but I want to do it since I have no other way and my trip is in the beginning of June and thank soo much for your fast reply

@@leena1002 since your trip is in June, you have more than enough time to Japan to process your visa. You can gamble and try the dummy ticket which technically is a booking reference. But id strongly recommend making the purchase and immediately submitting your application. I understand the anxiety and I feel it too. But if you think about it, a purchased ticked also gives financial confidence. And either way, you will still need to buy a ticket and fly within the dates of your visa validity. (And tickets will cost more closer to departure date. And! Summer is peak ish season).

Hi, with a multipage itinerary/ flight detail, I combined them by converting them into a PDF file. And that’s what I uploaded. Are u still able to access them? Delete what you’ve uploaded to make space. Edit your files into 1 pdf and upload that file?

That they are still processing December applications. - but normally it’s just 7 working days. My took 2 weeks, and that’s with providing further documentation.

Hi! You are fine. It’s okay to use your phone and they expect you to do so because you will need to use your phone to access your evisa when you go through passport control. :) A shared itinerary is okay and normal for those travelling in groups. I travelled with my sisters and their kids too and we had the same itinerary. It’s not a problem. Your good! I’m sure you will get your visa in time! 👍🏻

Hi, I believe u can do digitally. There’s actually an online version of the application form that u can just fill up directly. - I don’t recall an instruction that u must use black. I think blue should be fine.

Hi, I haven’t seen official requirement regarding how much you should have in your bank account. But I’m pretty sure they’d expect the same amount of money for those apply for a 15 day and a 90 day entry visa. I see some online sources say to have at least $2,000 to $3,000. What’s important to write your itinerary plan, even if it’s tentative. And the money you have in the bank statement is reasonable enough to pay for your planned itinerary.

Hi! Usually itinerary is flight itinerary. Schedule of stay is your plans. Your day to day plans. Even if it’s tentative, they want you to write it down. The timing doesn’t have to be specific. Just generally write down what u intend to do on those days. It’s not enough to put in the city or town.

I use chat GPT, or you can google Japan or Tokyo itinerary. And mark down 1 recommended places in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one in the evening. It’s doesn’t have to be a final itinerary, but as long as the embassy can see what your plans are and how u spend ur days there. They told me : putting in a city isn’t enough. So I placed specific parts of the city I would like to visit.

Yes, I did that too. I showed them my visa on my phone. So have it ready. -- more importantly, if you are ofw, please have ur papers ready too. They will still look for it.

Some tips sir, Im ofw from saudi also. Make it sure hindi arabic ang e submit mo na files, even exit-re entry dapat english. Within 5-7days ma issue nila agad.

Hi, it was free. For many countries it’s usually free. When you finish your application they will let you know if you need to pay. But mostly it’s free.

Congratulations!!! Officially you are suppose to show your visa via internet from the site. So, while waiting in line at immigration open the website and have ur evisa ready. You can also screenshot if u can for back up purposes.

Hi! Yes, I was missing my trip schedule. In the email they said it’s not enough to just write the city of where we will be. They usually email the reason. Or you could reach out to them.

@@jintan8697 Hi! Should take 2 weeks. Evisa would definitely be faster and lower risk of losing your passport which is a whole different headache. NYC processing Centers are quick.

Hi! Yes, I flew with family. There is no official amount requirement. But it’s generally understood that the amount u have should afford to pay for your hotel-accommodation, flights & daily food allowance. Nothing to be afraid of. Japan processing is very friendly. If there is something missing or needs more information, they will tell you. And the delays are not significant. Very quick processing. I’m sure it will be fine and easy. Very straightforward when you apply.

@@thedanielgo hi kaka submit lng namin kanina ng application, kinakabahan ako feeling ko mali inupload ko dun sa part na “itinerary with flight details” and “schedule of stay” dun sa itinerary with flight details ang inupload ko is yung activities itinerary ko with flight details, which is bka yung iniingi nila is yung flight itinerary mismo. And dun sa schedule of stay naman inupload ko yung screenshot ng airbnb booking confirmation ko. Pno kaya yun :(

It will indicate either on the passport stamp or piece of paper immigration will give u that you will only be allowed to stay for 15 days. And it will especially show the exact date of your last day. Otherwise, yay! Im glad u got ur visa. U can always visit again in the future. And this time maybe apply for a regular tourist visa that allows more than 15 days at a time.
