If you all don’t know, Brazil is a kind of country where a thief will shoot a bullet right in the center of your forehead if you refuse to let him steal your cell phone. This happens not once or twice a year, but every week in a different place. And not only in the “favelas” (our ghettos), indeed that can happen anywhere. So yes, I would say Japan is REALLY SAFE. Well, they are pretty much chilled lately. What you have to be wary of is Psychotic fkers. Yakuza mostly won't mess with you unless you mess with them or got in their ways.
Yakuza are not some street thugs looking to mug and kidnap random people, they’re mostly involved in stuff like prostitution and smuggling etc. They usually avoid people, especially foreigners. So if you dont mess with their business they will not cause you any harm. Plus, Yakuza aren’t active as much as they were back in the 80’s
My parents call and ask, "where are you, where are you? Go somewhere at night time. " They are scared but asking you to go out during the night time. Quite strange!!

Bro I walk at like 2PM alone here in Japan. Streets are so empty after 10-11PM here, but yes I can talk on phone and have a good walk even at late night.
I am Japanese and have traveled to many countries, and Japan is the safest, cleanest and most wonderful country in the world, except for the fact that its citizens suffer from high taxes due to corrupt politics, their income has not increased for 30 years (1/3 of the US wage), and weed is outlawed.
