Japan's near and medium term future is simple: Figuring out how to do more with diminishing manpower. That means more cutting edge high tech and automation.

Interesting how Japan makes ships work with less crew. All navies facing decreased personnel

I wonder what kind of technologies can be used for underwater secured secret communication. Anything based on sound would give the emitter's position off, so maybe ULF ? I am very ignorant...
@chrisf5462

My guess is optical (e.g. laser) for direct communication between vessels or other assets like UUVs/nodes.

@@chrisf5462 That is probably not the case, liquid water has very high attenuation across the electromagnetic spectrum. The part of the spectrum where it is least absorptive is around the visible spectrum of light (a characteristic it shares with water vapour and the reason why we have evolved to see in said spectrum). And if you have seen water interact with visible light, you will know that it likes to be absorbed by other things in the water and it also likes to be refracted (leading to a precarious situation when trying to point somewhere far away with precision). My safest bets are two: a) underwater cables to transmit info without broadcasting it. Expensive to set up but unparalleled when it comes to both broadband and low signature. b) use sonar to transmit and receive information. but make sure to encrypt it well as other people can listen in rather easily.

It certainly won't be based off any kind of sound that sonar can pick up, that's for sure. Whatever it is, they won't disclose, I am guess whatever it is, it has its limitations (meaning likely shorter range). It won't be radar or light either, despite a user replying to you suggesting that, because radar and light dissipates too quickly in water, which is why it isn't used as a means of communication or detection, and only sound is (which travels very well in water). Torpedoes for example are wire guided, they have a long spool of wire that goes for tens of kilometres. This is also how unmanned underwater vehicles are typically controlled as well, via a thin wire that connects it to the control device.

@@ziongite My guess is that it will be one of those long thin wires. Yet it's smart to not disclose that obviously, because if the enemy knew the connection between the sub and UUV was in fact a wire, then they can prepare to disable that connection. So it's not good to disclose what that connection is, and it's goo to imply that it will be wireless with some diagrams that imply that etc, to throw the enemy off.

This is a very important and serious issue for Japan. The personnel fulfillment rate has been fluctuating at about 93% of the planned value every year, and in addition, the number of missions undertaken every year is increasing, which is exhausting the Maritime Self-Defense Force itself, and the number of accidents is also increasing. How to manage these and increase deterrence is an important issue for Japan's future defense power.

Its interested with Japanese. They understand english but they suck in speaking it. They usually keep their mantra "We live in Japan, so we don't need to speak english", but problem cames when they visit other countries for wahtever reason then their broken english is both amusing and hard to understand. Kudos to those who actually take time to learn other language. Heck, in my school we had of course domestic lanugage, english and one language we could chose from (Italian or German),

I don’t know where are you from but that’s some idiotic opinion to me, who cares about how you know multiple languages and shit. The thing you are sayings are basically “those guys are shit at speaking, what kind of education does those barbarian guys had?” Type shit. Those guys are probably born in like 80s-90s. Who da fuck teach some speaking when in that time all they needed was understanding

What you are saying isn't tru at all! In this video the Admiral do speak English perfectly, but Naval News that travel to many countries have staff of many different nationality and thus offer people to speak in their native language, since it will make it easier to prevent a mistake you have 3 type of Japanese (with sub types): type 1: doesn't understand English and do not speak English type 2: do understand English, and speak English at an OK level, but are "afraid" of speaking English (afraid of saying something wrong or not saying it book perfect) Type 3: Understand and speak English at a very high level (even English native people have to google some of the English word they use, due to Japanese that are comfortable with speaking English, they can basically all English word in the dictionary. When it comes to old people, there it is 50/50, either they do not speak English or they do speak English. For type 2 people: They are willing to speak English, but it is up to you, you have to make them comfortable. Make them understand that they can speak English, even when it is not perfect, but you must never tell them. My technique is to slow down, say one word at the time, give them time to tast on every single word, showing that they don't need to build up a perfect sentence. They will open up right away. And yes I travel a lot to Japan! And not only Tokyo, I often travel around to small and big town and cities

@@heuhen Well then if you travel to Japan you know better then me. When i think when i travel to Germany, yes Germans know english, but they wont talk to it, if you live there and work, they will expect you learn their language which is okay. If you came to other country you need to adapt to its law and culture. But when i get as tourist, i didnt had problem, whenever i ask a policeman to help me, he/she helped and asnwer all my questions.
