tbh, in america, kids of certain ethnicities in certain inner city areas absolutely would have been robbing convenience stores with these if they released them here. they still did it with other toy guns (and still do) but the change at least saved nintendo the legal headache of having to get sued all the time by angry parents blaming nintendo for their children's criminal tendencies.

It was the release of that Sega Genesis peripheral that sparked controversy upon its release in the early 1990s with many parents groups and the need to create a rating system (which became the ESRB) to inform parents about the content in video games and to discern whether a game is for kids, for teenagers or for adults by gauging a letter-based rating on the bottom corner of a game's box...

I like the Famicom's second model because it shares design cues with the new-style NES toploader model, plus it has two NES-style 7-pin controller sockets, a 15-pin Famicom expansion socket and had composite AV out, which was a step up from the NES toploader's RF connection. It also plays NES games using a converter, since Famicom cartridges have a 60-pin connector, while NES cartridges ("game paks") had a 72-pin connector. It also works with the Famicom Disk System's RAM adapter, which slots into the cartridge slot.

I just use a secondhand Sony PVM, service it regularly, use highly-shielded Monster Cable, and keep using the light guns. :P

It uses an RF input and it requires a japanese crt tv because it will look for japanese channels 2 or 3. Or you can rca mod your famicom so you can use an american crt tv with it

Not really. The NES doesn't have the Famicom controller port. I purchased a kit that attaches to the unused NES accessory port on the bottom; it adds the controller port, but it's in a really awkward place.

Also, filming old TVs like that is tricky. It’s almost impossible to match the camera’s shutter speed with the refresh rate of the TV resulting in those lines. SLO-Mo guys did a video on that.

I think it depends on a lot of factors, but I'm pretty sure it won't work on any LCD. You may have heard that it won't work with HDTVs or flat screens, which is normally true because 90% of HDTVs are LCDs, and there were only a few late-model CRTs trying to bill themselves as "flat screen" by removing the curves. It definitely requires a CRT, but I think it pretty much works on any CRT. I think it has something to do with the fact that the screen doesn't refresh in the same way and the backlight is always on. Couldn't get much more detailed than that, though.
