I have owned both types of Akita, still have my Japanese Akita Yuki for 11 years. I personally wouldn’t own another American they are a lot more aloof in my experience, more dominant and can be more aggressive. The Japanese Akita is the original breed and hasn’t been bred with other breeds to change its look , height weight etc. I prefer the look tbh, but each to their own 👍
I have a american male akita that weighs 185 pounds, yes, the breeder bred her akitas very large, he is a true American akita , like the Japanese akita a difference, my American akita has never ever been mean at all, socialized at seven weeks old, and alot of training with trainer who trained akitas, I prefer the American akita over the Japanese, they are a smaller and smaller build, only two colors, to each there own between akitas, but akita American favorite dog most beautiful❤❤😊
Just for info: The video is trying to say that American Akitas are mixed with other breeds and the Japanese isn't. That's just not true. You see many very old Japanese paintings going back over a hundred years showing Akitas with the color of the American Akita. Look up the book, "Dog Man by Martha Sherrill." In that book it points out that the breed known as Japanese Akita didn't appear until the mid 1980s.🙂
I’m very traditional, I believe people should leave well enough alone. Both are more likely to destroy an outsider if you don’t socialize and train them
I would say they are both great dogs to have. I have a 17 month old American Akita, and he does need more socialization then I have given him. He is very protective of me, and that being good sometimes worries me, but I keep him leashed when we go out. So whatever one you decide on, your making a great choice and will have a wonderful companion and family member. Peace
Size of Akita Inu is wrong, male is 67cm high and female 61 +/-3 according to FCI and JKC standards, sometimes they are larger but rarely smaller. Actually height of both is about the same, but Japanese is much slimmer, male is anything from ~30 to about 45 kilos and rarely more, females can be as low as 25 or so. Most of the confusion is created by US federations which have both under the same name.
I think I like the original type best. They are both beautiful Dogs However. I wondered how the heck to keep a dog from running until they're 2 yrs. Old? Lol. Even grass can be hard and firm.
If you are referring to the Japanese, it isn't technically the original either. Both varieties are different than pre WWII Akitas. They have a very interesting history.
@@1979geauxtigers american akita have more mastiff and shepherd blood & looks japanese akita is more original looks both has same roots akita inu strongly mix with mastiff and shepherd in ww2 era in japan, american soldiers brought back this type of akita(mastiff shepherd mix type), japanese akita is try to return back pure blood akita looks after ww2,that is japanese akita now
Mexican akitas are pure bred akitas like Japanese, Japanese are smaller build and fox face, American akita are larger stronger, bear face, both are akitas, American akita for me, love mine
I’ve owned many large breed dogs in my life.. My father use to have 2 Doberman pinchers just like Magnum P.I when I was 5 🤣 loved them pups.. Now I own an American Akita and this is next level stuff right here.. Nothing like a Rott, Pit, Corso or anything like that.. This dog is a straight up hunter and a fighter on a mega scale. But also very loving.. Tjis dog turn ms in to two entirely different dogs! Example.. just yesterday my me my wife and our Akita Grizzly 🤣 went for a walk through the park by where we live. Then a unleashed Rott came running up towards Grizzly with his owner chasing behind calling for his dog but he wasn’t listening.. Grizzly didn’t bark, growl or budge an inch.. He waited for the Rott to get close then struck him with amazing grace and power that he never displays in the home around our children.. we’ve never seen him aggressive ever.. He only 10 months old.. before I knew it he had the Rott by the top of his neck going for the kill .. that quick it was over.. A full grown Rott at 3 years old vs my 10 month old American Akita.. This happened yesterday!!!
Amazing story, and he's still a kid. When 2 yrs old and just, fugedaboutit. All those years of Natrual selection. Living and surviving in the Mountains of Japan in the wilderness, what better breeding program?
Yep. Akitas were bread to hunt boars, bears and big game. That Rot was a chew toy. Akitas don’t bar or sell wolf tickets…just move when you see that hair on the back of the neck stand up…move, you’ve been warned. Love that dog!
@@niceel5165 The American Akita was never used for hunting, only its ancestors (akita inu) is in its genes by the Japanese Akita, but it was never used for hunting or fighting.
not for everybody of course, have American male akita, trained socialized, great dog for right person, there are alot of dogs routines, german shepherds, pit bulls, not just akitas!! people need to do there research on breed of dogs, my akita has been trained and socialized, guard dog, companion, get your facts straight
do working lines and show lines exist in japanese akitas [which is a distinct lineage from american akitas]? if so, which line amongst the working line and show line is being shown more in this video?
I wanted to get a Beagle because of the low maintenance, etc... My daughter rescued an American Akita from the streets but could not keep him, so I took him. We, the Akita, and I both formed a friendship. Also, I love how he is built like a big bear; I'm partial to the American Akita. Yes, I'm being Biases. :-) Also, someone just tried to say the original breed was the Japanese, and the American was bread with other breeds. Well, all that has been debunked. Look up the book, "Dog Man" by Martha Sherrill. Also, if you look up the videos showing the Japanese Akita and German Shepherd Mix dogs, they don't look like your average American Akita.
