Before figuring this out I was very confused on how to fill up these bike tires with "different" tube valves on them than what I'm used to. Once figuring out that there was a need to pump up the tires, I quickly realized that I could pump these up with a standard bike pump. After some doing and looking/asking around I was able to figure it out. Just like most things, once I figured out how this "new" valve operated I was successfully able to get back out on the road again with some nice and pumped up tires! I figured I'd create this "Japanese Bike Tube Valve & How to Pump Up Your Tire | aka. English Valve, Dunlap Valve" video in order to possibly help others that came across this same situation.
Here is the transcripts from this video when I was in Japan.
This is called a dunlap or an english valve even a woods valve so this is a japanese bike here i just kind of want to show you how they work first of all you're not going to pump this thing up with this right it's not you got one for trader and one for presto or presta not gonna work right you can't get you can almost you can almost do it but you can't get enough this thing here this pump in particular you can't get enough bite on that to uh to pump it up so that's not gonna work luckily found this one here and it's got that little that valve on the end of it this works this works for pumping these up but this is going to do you no good with this with this type of stem here it's this type of valve so just to kind of show you how it works in its current state this is how you pump it up right so this little thing here is just a it's just like a dust cap right it doesn't do anything so if it's flat all you got to do is remove that dust cap and this is how you pump it up but the only time you need to to change this right is if uh you got a problem with your stem if the stem is leaking so which is i mean it's a nice feature on it you can you can change that out but looks like i've kind of deformed it so i'm actually not gonna i'm not gonna mess with it but this part will come all the way out this unscrews this the stem will come out i deformed it because i was trying to pump it up with this thing figured out that i couldn't do it and uh just trying to get more bite on that but yeah a little bit but anyway this is the this is the ticket for pumping those up it's kind of nice that's what this clamp is here here is for
let's put it on like that like this right over there ready to go
yep there you go all right thanks for watching
