OMG, I just love your channel! After spending over a month in Osaka, I have learned to love propper Japanese food but they don't have many vegan options, until you came along! Thank you so much! :)
Thank you Jana! It's my honor to receive this kind of comment from someone like you!! did you come to Osaka to just learn Japanese cooking?? I hope you had a wonderful time in Japan!! I'm just a homecook but I want many people with any dietary requirement to enjoy the Japanese food! I have been experimenting many dishes with my own way!! haha I'll definitely look at you channel to learn from you Jana! Thank you again!
@@MiwasJapaneseCooking yes, I think it’s brilliant that you take your time make vegan Japanese food, I really enjoy your recipes! The other day I made takikomi goham which I love and yaki curry, I even have a recipe for that on my channel, both are my top fave foods along of course, with the care udon. ❤️😘🍲
@@ChefJana vegan yaki curry??! I definitely need to check that out!! I might recreate it on my channel by mentioning the recipe is from your channel since your channel just brows my mind! so informative and lots of new ways to enjoy plant based food. Let me know if that's ok for you. I don't want to be rude to you!
Such an intriguing menu, beautifully explained and presented. The music was just right, and your voice is, as always, so comforting to listen to! Perfect!
My boyfriend and I loved cuddles up in bed for sleep and watching your video ❤️ we have 31 days till move in! I practiced your cutting technique for carrots today, a little challenging but I’m sure to get the hang of it 😊❤️ thank you for the courage during these touch times ❤️ -a new loving subscriber
I had no idea you could cook other vegetables along with the rice in the rice cooker! This is amazing - there is ONE store in my area that sells burdock root. I have to go try that recipe!
i love your channel so much!! it’s so inspiring and relaxing and i love to learn something new with each video i watch🥰 thank you for teaching us so many beautiful recipes!!!
Watched this, this morning after cleaning the kitchen and realized I had almost everything to make it - so I did!! Now sitting here with my delicious breakfast. Thank you so much
@@MiwasJapaneseCooking To be honest, slicing carrots is one of those things I have never liked doing. ANYTHING that makes it easier is a welcome piece of knowledge. As for my tips, I still have plenty, but no upload from me this week. Maybe I told you (I can't remember.) but Thunderjack and I had a camera problem last week. The beautiful Italian meal I made, it merely became a delicious memory. We're re-shooting tomorrow. Wish me luck!
I am such a fan of you !! I've learned SO much from you in a few vids , and I am starting to lose weight already automaticly!!! Thank you SO much , Love and Health from Europe ms.Miwa's 💞
This looks delicious! Your ingredients look so fresh and colorful. I will definitely try to find all of the vegetables here in Germany. Is the dashi vegan as well?
I'm glad to hear that all the ingredients are available for you!! Dashi contains fish stock if you chose the one with bonito flakes. but there is vegan one with just kelp only! Try to find one with KOMBU & SHIITAKE mushroom on the label! Here is the link for amazon in case you want! amzn.to/37MEZBu thank you for your comment!!
Wonderful and so fresh. Your videos are so clear and it really helps me with inspiration to dump my old habits and try to be more vegan !........ I really think that Japanese cuisine is a great help ! .....thank you so much I am really going to try all your recipes now
Thank you very much for your kind word Johhny!!! Please be kind on yourself and enjoy cooking! Sounds like you are already ding great!! I'm not entirely a vegan, still learning and implement along the way!
I live in NY- we have a lot of Asian supermarkets- I find it at one chain called H mart(which I believe is Korean) but they sell burdock root or gobo for very cheap! Making this today :)
Wonderful Presentation, colorful easy to follow and light meal, perfect for day's start! new friend watching from my kitchen in Canada, searching for inspiration

Miwa San! おはようございます!I’m always trying to think of different soup ideas, this looks so delicious 😋 I also love takikomi gohan ( my kids will probably reject the mushrooms😂) I can’t wait to try both recipes, thank you!
Hello! I am glad that I found your channel. I bought dashi packets for the first time, so I am looking forward to making a soup like yours. Thank you :)

I’m not familiar with those packets you are using, but I do make dashi stock at home. My understanding is that it requires to boil bonito flakes. If those packets have bonito in their ingredients the it isn’t vegan. I know some vegetarians eat fish but those people typically call themselves pescatarian. Please forgive me and my ignorance if I’m incorrect in your soups ingredients. But I could look them up since I don’t know the brand to verify myself. Thank you. Your recipes look delicious.
Thank you very much for your comment! there is the one which only contains kombu seaweed and shiitake mushroom in packets. but like you mentioned, there are types which has a bonito flakes in it. So please follow what you have and works best for you^^
I am obsessed with the japanese sweet potato!! There's another potato that is dark purple but tastes like a delicious sticky custard desert with a touch of what strikes me as rose essence. Its sooooooo good. I'm not completely sure what it's called so if anyone knows please let me know. Also, I am aware that there are just regular purple potatoes that taste same as their white cousins. The special one is definitely shaped more like a sweet potato. Yum! Now I want to go to my local Asian store 🤔🤪
the potato you mentioned sounds so interesting and fascinating!! we have purple potato in Japan. we call it purple potato! haha I hope someone will let us know the name of it! Thank you for sharing Maria!
Is the inside of the potato purple? If so that's still a sweet potato and it's actually common Okinawa. You can find the purple sweet potato kitkat there only. I haven't seen one of them for ages myself. Luckily my local shop stocks the japanese sweet potato.
the reason why I don't bake that much is simply I don't have oven! haha My kitchen doesn't have space for the oven. so I think you are lucky to have lots of option too cook! thank you very much for your kind word Kate!
This looks heaven-licious ! I gotta try to make this healthy b'fast recipe for my family. ! I might sub the buttock with a local white radish, coz i see it's got a similar texture. What' s the best sub for sake /mirin ? Thank u for ur sharing ur lovely recipe.much💗 from Indonesia🇮🇩🌷
Sake for water and mirin for sweeter! but sweeter is usually a lot sweeter than mirin! so please go little by little as you adjusting the taste! Thank you Ratna!
I haven’t seen burdock root here in florida, but will be on the lookout for it now :) Also would using dried kombu work in place of the kombu dashi powder?
Thank you for your comment Leah! If you are using dried kombu, please try this recipe! I'm using dried kombu and dried shiitake mushroom in this recipe! www.shinagawa-japanese-cooking.com/post/vegan-japanese-style-vegetable-mixed-rice
Dashi refers to soup stock including vegetable stock, kombu stock and shiitake stock. The most popular one is fish stock, but you can use any stock you have on hand^^ I'm sorry my direction here was confusing.
What’s in the dashi packet? Is there bonito in it, that wouldn’t be vegan or vegetarian. How much salt? I use simple kombu plus other sea veggies, usually wakame, sometimes arame, nori, hiziki. I’ve thought of using dulse, which is grown off the Atlantic coast of America, it’s red, mild, and can even be munched on as a snack. A man I spoke with who grows it takes great pride and care in how it’s grown and harvested, and he’s part of a cooperative that passionately cares about their impact on the ocean. He’s expensive, though. It’s all done by hand. But it’s nowhere near Fukushima. I’m concerned about buying sea veggies from Japan, ever since the Daiichi disaster. I only know of one American brand that tests for contamination and they only test for one isotope, they’re more expensive because of the extra safety steps they take. They did immediately move the location where they harvested after Fukushima, which is better than other companies. The FDA in the U.S. told me back then, that they didn’t have the budget to do comprehensive testing. They were just occasionally sending a runner to randomly buy packages from local stores and testing, but nothing systemic.

Hi Anika!! so nice to hear from you!!! Thank you very much for your kind encouragement!! if you have anything you want me to make for future contents, please let me know anytime!
gobo is one of my favourite vegetables ever! Sometimes the hard side of a kitchen sponge halps to clean it (without soap of course hahaha). When not in Japan I have to travel an hour to get it so I always get a couple and clean and freeze it. When i don't have time and I'm going to fry or bake it I press the abura age hard between some layers of kitchen paper that work for excess oil as well. I still trying to make my own abura age since it is so hard to get where I am now :(
so many tips and hacks!!!! I'll definitely try the sponge scrub !! without soap! haha gobo has such a unique flavor which can be addictive to some people. I'm one of them! so good! you have to come back to Japan! haha
@@MiwasJapaneseCooking Usually I come back once or twice a year but now I've last been in Tokyo in November 2019. Really hope to come back soon. I miss my friends and family. And the city itself :)
Hi Miwa-san! I often make just the rice portion of this video, and I sometimes add ginger and IKEA plant balls! (lol! Have you tried them?) Could you please help me? I’m looking for your video where you made rice with myouga (Japanese ginger) and mitsuba, I think you said it was your grandmas recipe? I can’t find that video anymore ! Thanks!
Made the rice the other day, was delicious. FYI: Burdock might be called gobo root. I found it at an Asian market in the fresh food section. Thank you for the recipes.
