@Meofalulu
@Meofalulu 3 года назад
@@Ye_Yuku1996 There was a video of a woman with a tissue hanging in front of her face. When she said "これはペンです" the tissue didn't move much, but when she said "This is a pen", the tissue moved a lot. The point tried to prove that the coronavirus didn't spread as much in Japan because Japanese speakers don't exhale as forcefully when making the "ペ" sound compared to the "p" sound in English. This was quickly and easily debunked by many people on the Internet recreating the scenario with a tissue in front of their faces and repeating the same lines in Japanese and English. They proved that the "p" sound is basically the same in Japanese and English and how forcefully you exhale doesn't depend on which language you're speaking.

In English, we have formal and informal speech also, but it's not as complex as Japanese and people don't focus on the differences too much, unless it's extremely informal, then that's considered disrespectful. For example, in America, it's ok to say "Hello", "Hi!', or "Hey!" to a teacher, but saying something like "yo, bruh!" would be too informal and would probably be seen as disrespectful. In high school, when some students used extremely informal speech or even a swear word, the teacher would say something like "watch your language!". Saying something like "Greetings!", probably sounds too formal and doesn't sound like something people say. I've personally never heard it in real life, only written down or in a movie where one group contacts another for the first time, or in alien movies where the aliens would say something like, "Greetings, earthlings!". There are also different ways to dress for occasions. There's formal (suits/dresses), casual formal (dress shirts and dress pants) and casual/informal (like jeans and a t-shirt).
