This smooth RnB song by Daniel Caesar has a great groove and some really colourful chords, as well as a tasty guitar lick to finish. Download your free tab chart and let's get going!
It's a simple ABA format, so once you learn the chord progression you can experiment with the bits in between, as they don't happen exactly the same way every time.
Please note: In the video I refer to a D9 chord, which is actually a Db9. My mistake.
I also refer to the D9#11 chord, which is actually a Db9#11. Again, my mistake, my apologies to all, and the chart has the correct chord names on it.

I have a question, In the D9 chord it says to do a 3 string barre but it looks like you only press on the 2nd and 3rd string, should I do it like you? or do a barre chord on the last 3 strings with my ring finger? Insane tutorial btw I loved it, really into the little details
@OneChartguitarlessons
@OneChartguitarlessons 2 года назад
Short answer is it doesn’t really matter. Btw, when I say D9 in this song, I actually mean Db9, because the root note is on the 4th fret D string. If you use your ring finger across the 3 strings, the next chord you need means you have to lift that finger anyway. And the note on the high E string is I think not really necessary to the song, and definitely not as important as the next chord’s note on the E string 3rd fret. So my advice would be to do what I do. Hope that helps!

how can i get those short strums you have for the chords? im having trouble replicating that sound
@OneChartguitarlessons
@OneChartguitarlessons 2 года назад
It's a combination of a quick strum while at the same time (or a few milliseconds after the strum actually!) you release the pressure in your fretting hand WITHOUT taking your fingers off the strings. That way they dampen the chord immediately and you get that short, sharp strum sound. It takes a little bit of experimenting to get it right, but as soon as you've got it right, you have the feel for it and it's quite easy. It's mostly in the timing of strumming and gently squeezing down on your fretting hand at the same time, then a split moment later, you release the pressure in the fretting hand. Hope that helps!

would Ab minor over B just be a B6?

serious question … how do i tune my amp and guitar to sound exactly like how urs does ???
@OneChartguitarlessons
@OneChartguitarlessons 2 года назад
What sort of guitar and amp do you have?
@lighthydro7083
@lighthydro7083 2 года назад
@@OneChartguitarlessons the amp is: Acoustic Lead Guitar Series G20 20W 1x10 Guitar Combo Amp the electric guitar is: ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar Transparent Purple Burst
@OneChartguitarlessons
@OneChartguitarlessons 2 года назад
The short answer is: clean sound settings on the amp - no overdrive at all. Use the rhythm channel. Bass high, treble around middle, and mids less than halfway. For your guitar (which is very pretty), it only has humbucker pickups, and this sound really requires a single coil sound (like the pickups on a strat). So the best you can do I think is to use the neck pickup, and back off the volume on your guitar a little so that it's not so full and fat sounding. Let me know how you go! (By the way, another important key to my tone in the video is reverb. Your amp doesn't have it, but if you can find a cheap reverb (or even delay) pedal, that will help a lot in getting that sound. Hope that helps!

@@OneChartguitarlessons thank you so much ! if i’m being honest here i don’t know what my 3 dials on my guitar do, if you have any idea what they are it will be a big help if you can tell me what they are !
@OneChartguitarlessons
@OneChartguitarlessons 2 года назад
Oh, dude, you gotta read about your beautiful guitar and learn all about her! The dial nearest your strings is the volume. The others will be tone. I always have them all up full, then just back off the volume if you need to. That way you get the strongest signal out of your guitar to start with.

Oh my god, Esmond Lama, you are the first person in over 7000 views to catch that! Thank you! I don't know why but every time I play the Db9 (and the Db9#11), I call them a D9 and D9#11. My mistake. Totally wrong, and they should be called Db9 and Db9#11. Thanks for pointing that out, mate. I have corrected the chart, and am now trying to find a way to add a correction to the video. Cheers.

No worries. And thanks for saying that. I honestly don’t know why I did that. I know damned well that chord is a Db9 not a D9. Major brain fade, right there.
