Prince Fumihito, or better known as Prince Akishino, was officially proclaimed first in line to the Chrysanthemum throne by his elder brother Emperor Naruhito on November 8, 2020. For the people that complaining regarding the succession of Princess Aiko i just want to say this as an example of being respectful to someone else's tradition: In my country there is a tradition in minangkabau where only women can become the head of family and have the power to influence their family and everyone else cool with that. I think regardless of your position in gender issue or the values of monarchy etc the tradition itself should still be carried out with respect and dignity that it deserved. Especially considering the fact that Japanese monarchy have survived for more than 1500 years which means they understand what they are doing right now.
@MrLantean
@MrLantean 3 года назад
The line of succession in Japan is from one male to another another as it is the way of succession in East Asian culture. In the past, Emperor had multiple wives with the Empress as official wife. All of the emperor's sons regardless being born to the Empress or other wives are eligible to the throne though sons born to the Empress are prioritized. If the Emperor did not have a male heir at the time of his death, the throne is passed to the closest male relative, usually the younger brother or nephew and occasionally uncle. If there are none, it will passed to the closest branch family member. Japanese Imperial family have many branch members and the most distant ones usually got cut off from the line of succession and are granted nobility ranks. That's why during the Sengoku Period, many feudal lords claimed to have Imperial blood by claiming descent from these various nobility of royal descent.

Japanese govt. is unbroken line of male-line fundamentalist. For more than 15 years, the LDP has not held a decent discussion on imperial succession. The administration's inaction led to a crisis in the imperial lineage with only one heir to the throne in the future. They are desperate to let Akishino family take over the imperial line. However, newspaper and other media polls show that more than 80 percent of Japanese want Princess Aiko, the Emperor's child to become female emperor.

I keep reading about how SURPRISING it is that they are running out of heirs. They don't allow women into the line or children from an imperial female and somehow they are supposed to have a plethora of heirs to choose from? Kids don't come from trees.

Why would it be the son when there is still the father? The emperor's brother is his next of kin. It should have been the emperor's child but since it is a daughter, she is disqualified. So who is the closest male relative to the king? His brother. The nephew is the 2nd in line to the throne. He is going to be the crown prince when his father becomes king.
