Put on your blue suede shoes and listen to the smooth sounds of the unmistakable Gretsch.
2 Gretsches that look the same and play very similar. If you look over the guitars closely you can see quality and aesthetics differences between the two.
Thank you to Jimi & Sive at Jimi's Music store in Ballymount Dublin for allowing us to put on our "wicked game" with these 2 lovely lasses.
Guitary stuff from Dublin, Ireland with Phil & Dan😎🤘👍

Bought that same model in 2017, orange, 5420T electromatic, korean Gretsch and I've lived happily ever after...

I just bought G5420T in Aspen Green. The only thing I couldn't live with was the bridge (bridge rattle and tuning instability) but that was an easy fix. I just put a rolling bridge on. Couldn't be happier.

2 min ago I didn't know which one should I buy...then you come and play and I listen to both guitars... Immediately fell in love with the sound of the one in the left and thought "geez.... That's Is the one from Japan, sounds like heaven" and then you come and say "Mine is from Korea" I'm done! Thank you so very much!!! 💗💗

I just recently got a Korean Electromatic 5120. I have to say I was never a Gretsch guy, but this guitar is a real dream. It feels and plays and sounds great, and holds it's tune. The stock pick ups sound fine even though I'm swapping them out for Blacktop Filertrons because to my ear the black tops are brighter. But the stock pickups are fine as they come from the factory. I reevaluated my thoughts on Gretsch after I got this one.

The Korean made Gretsch are excellent for the money. The Japan pro line Gretsch is perfection. Just depends on how much you wanna spend. The Japanese are about $1000 more on an eBay buy, but the quality is unmatched.

Had a Gretsch 5422 before I got a G6120T-59 Vintage Select. If I had to choose, the Vintage Select wins. The V neck is really smooth and the overall feel and tone of the guitar is just awesome. Not to mention the rocking TV Jones classics. That's my few cents worth, cheers.

I own two Japanese Country Gent's, both are terrible in the intonation issue. I had to move the bridge towards the bigsby by drilling new holes for the pegs (about 5mm away). But my Chinese Electromatic Duo is excellent. I didn't have to adjust anything. Very well crafted and smooth.

@rexrobards7407
@rexrobards7407 5 лет назад
Most of the Japanese Country Gents come with the (uncompensated) rocker bridge for reasons of authenticity - the Gretsch Adjust-o-matic was not available until the Gibson patents ran out on the Tune-o-matic in 1973. The metal portion of any Gretsch bridge can be replaced with the equivalent Gibson Tune-o-matic (ABR-1) bridge, which is available from any of the big-box guitar stores. Just be sure to match the post and string spacing on your guitar. You must also match the radius of the fingerboard on your guitar, but this is usually not a problem because most modern Gibsons and Gretsches share the same 16" radius. Best practice would be to take your guitar to the local guitar store and see the tech guy in the repairs department to get a perfect fit.

I have the electromatic and I love it. It sounds great and has a lovely action, though I think the pickups on the Japanese guitar have the edge. The master volume on the Korean model has a ‘treble bleed’, which means you don’t lose the higher frequencies when turning it down.

I’m very lucky to own a 2nd hand 6120W57. As a backup I later bought a5120, also 2nd hand. There are several cosmetic and structural differences between the two but it only make me admire them that much more; however, I do find myself picking up the 5120 a lot more. It seems lighter and the sustain is great. Pickups aren’t all that bad, either, for stock. It’s just a fun guitar to play around the house and while gigging. And if it got broke, it’s cheaper to replace.

I always wanted a Gretsch, bought a used 5120 off Reverb with: TV Jones pickups and wiring, rocker bridge, and a really nice Gretsch hard case. This is a 2008 Korea build, which is flawless, and had a mahogany neck back then too (new ones are maple?) - which I prefer, plus a beautiful dark Indian rosewood fretboard. The neck feels wonderful, a full C shape - not too big, not too small (Goldilocks would dig it), and frets are medium/jumbo, rounded and level. For all that I paid $600 on Reverb, while a 6120 would cost me up to 10x more (prices on Gretsch custom shop instruments $5-12,000USD (really!). The sound of a Gretsch is like no other, the clarity and fullness without harshness is beautiful to hear..........!

You need to play them one at a time. with two playing it is way to much noise to tell the difference. Also you have the microphone difference and the guitar on the front sounds better with which ever guitar in in the front.

@rexrobards7407
@rexrobards7407 5 лет назад
Apparently true since the G6120 here would be more closely identified with guitars of the early 1950s as it has single coil DeArmond style pickups with the (uncompensated) rocker bridge, vs the humbucking Filter'tron pickups paired with the Adjust-o-matic bridge (not available on a Gretsch guitar before 1973 although the Filter'tron pickups were introduced around 1960). The bridge that is not represented here is the "space control" bridge, which was similar to the "rocker" bridge, but had some additional parts on it to adjust the space between the strings at the bridge. The Japanese line always offers G6120s from every era in the Gretsch history of the model, the Korean line tends to hold to the models of the 60s, with the addition of the Adjust-o-matic bridge, which Gretsch could not offer until 1973 because of the Gibson patents on the Tune-o-matic.

The past 5 years have been mixing a cocktail of putting American built expensive guitars to shame. It really is a SHAME our US of A is being swept under the rug in the guitar industry. Only the real Vintage are actually worth the small fortunes they represent. The fact young artist that don’t know better are spending say $2000+ on Gibsons that only float on their long ago reputation. The same guitar and sometimes a better guitar can be purchased for under $1000, and even UNDER $600. The industry landscape has drastically changed due to machines and technology giving small name startups the same advantages that Big brands only had in their possession a time ago. Don’t believe everything you read or see online. Gibson will smoke and mirror you and you’ll be out $2500. For the matter, don’t believe my post either, but do give yourself a bit of learning today and research one or all of these brands quality and pricing. AIO WOLF, IYV, Harley Benton and Firefly. It’s brand like these that prove there are unbelievable Quality Amazing guitars for sale equivalent to the ones you are drooling over but can’t afford..and they are but a fraction of the price. I own Fenders, Ibanez, Gretch, Guilds, Schecter, but find my WOLF LP and my IYV PRS tonality and playability above and beyond what most expensive guitars cost. Sure it’s a draw sometimes as with the Ibanez and Fender, but this is up to your hands. Give it some time and effort and you’ll thank me someday for finding this post. Unless your just sold out for the Gibson name or any other Big brand that overprices their guitars because they can!? Jam ON
