That Daw Cho shop is really nice. Their mohinga taste is based on black pepper. Other shop based on chili paste for colour and taste.

So usually the difference between မြောင်းမြ (Myaung Mya) style monthingar and other types of monthingar is that Myaung Mya style has a less thickness in soup and it usually uses more pepper. You will usually get hot and sweaty from eating Myaung Mya style monthingar. There's also one famous Myaung Mya Mont Hin Gar in Tarmwe Lay Township. Quite close to ILBC and Super One Shopping Mall.

Howdy Arky Good to see an asian foreigner trying his best to enjoy local Myanmar food. Good of you! You were right Arky. It depends on each individual's preference. Some like it strong flavor. Some likes it mild. Some wants a lot of fish in the soup. Some likes the diluted soup better and so on. I am a local Myanmar who has migrated to Australia 25 years ago but I went back many times during these years. If I were to recommend, I would say 49th Street Upper Block Lucky 7 Tea shop one's is quite an optimized Mohinga. I am sure many people cannot deny that it is good no matter which way they like it to be. Because it is the most optimized flavor in my own opinion. I personally liked the one in West Yankin Market. But its flavor fluctuated based on its patrons. I liked it when it was less salty but then after some years, it became salty and I just asked for the hot boiled water and add some to the Mohinga to make it less salty. The one you visited seemed to be a franchise and not the original one though. As far as I knew, the original one is on the 51st Street Upper Block. The thing about Mohinga is that the shop has to keep boiling it till the soup runs out and this process makes the soup saltier as the time progresses. So, if one were to go later than 8:30am perhaps, you get the thick heavier (saltier) version of the soup and for many it is not very favorable. So, as you had already been made aware, people go and eat it around 6:30 am and 7:30 am to get the best flavor. If you live around 7 miles -to 9 1/2 miles of Yangon, you could try Feel Restaurant right in front of the Victoria (Wi-To-Ria) Hospital in 9 miles a bit further down from the 9 miles Ocean Center off the Pyay Road 2 mins drive before getting to the traffic junction to the Yangon International Airport. I would give 4.5 to 5 star for this Feel Restaurant's food + presentation + decoration. Nice Big Cane chairs and grand dinner tables all spread out inside and outside of it. Outside is for Smokers. Any kind of Burmese traditional food one could think of is usually there and at a very bearable price. It is more than local township shops' pricing but very bearable for the decoration and the taste you get there. The only thing I sometimes encountered was their service delivery. 2 out of 10 times got the order wrong and turn around time can be annoying sometimes for no reason like the Order Taker had forgotten about your order for a while till he or she sees you again or the same for the Kitchen Person or Order Filler behind the scene. This is to be expected from a country like this. Especially Feel on Pyi Htaung Su Road is very well known for the waiter staff's discerning gesture and conducts like they don't care about anyone or what they themselves are doing at all. One would have to feel lucky in there if he/she gets the order right and in a reasonable time frame. Lucky 7 Tea Shop is one of the Top Teashop in Myanmar with lunch on offer but closed after 5pm. There are 5 outlets established across the town and the Owners are all cousins. The 49th Street branch seems to be very well tuned to City's Original Residents' likes such as lightly salted food and not too sweet tea etc. Nowadays most of Yangon's original residents are living in western countries and some in Singapore, so both the service providers and the patrons are mostly rural born/raised and who had just come to live and work and survive in the City between 1 - 18 years after the original residents had left / fled from the previous regimes. These people like more flavor heavy taste such as sweeter, spicier, saltier food. Myaung Mya Daw Cho is one of them. It is just that they sell Mohinga mainly as their centre piece product and have a good and big presence downtown, so Foreigners found it either by passing by or brought along by their rural-born work colleagues or subordinates and become well-known. I would recommend Shwe-Nan-Daw in Ahlone Township and Pricess Irrawaddy in Kyauk Kone - Yankin Township for Mandalay Mont-T which is the main breakfast of Myanmar's second largest city, Mandalay. The latter is well suited to Foreigners' likes with airconditioning and fancy decoration and ideas but as usual 6am - 11am is the best time to get there. You look like a ethnic Chinese from remote area or the bordering town coming into Yangon for the eatery, so you'll be fine. Besides, you seem to dress like a local which is a good thing. Over-dressing there and sitting at any local shop could attract more charges usually except for the big restaurants where style attracts better service and things work the other way around. Bon-ape-tit, mate!!

I love Mohinga. Here in the US, it is expensive and doesn't taste as good as Burma. Mohinga, to me, is best eaten any time of the day when you're hungry. It's 24/7 food. It tastes best with pel kyaw, maybe throw in ekyar kway, spicy, salty and sour. My plan to come back and visit didn't materialize due to virus but hopefully, I'll be able to make it in 2 years. Btw, that's pretty impressive how you can speak both English and Burmese being Japanese, which I'm guessing is your first native language. And damn, driving in Yangon is impressive feat in itself because they drive like crazy.

I would say that it is one of the best Mohingas in Yangon (Not the best :)). You can get the instant Mohinga packet of this shop at the City Mart. BTW, I would prefer to try the Japanese noodle shop to the Burmese one.
