You have some of the most spectacular maples, especially in the south! I would love to know your secret weapon you’re using to fight off Phyllosticta and Anthracnose fungal diseases. I’m a few miles west of you in Alabama and the humidity is bringing the spots pretty bad. Any tips?
Thanks for your comment! I do have fungal issues on many of them, on top of spider mites and Japanese beetles. And this sudden warm weather is causing wrecks on many of them, leaves are changing colors and dropping. So no super powers here. Most of the maples are under a tree canopy which helps but I’m not doing anything special!
How many Japanese maples do you have in your collection? They are beautiful. I’ve only been collecting 2yrs now. This week I’ve been repotting some of mine. This week in Central NC my Amagi Shigure is really showing off with the dark green veining on the pink reticulated leaves.
@@Maplesinthegarden Wow 250! I love it!!! I think I’m between 40 to 50 maples. I have almost completed the Ghost Series with missing only Sister Ghost and Martha Ghost. I did get a Snow Kitten and so far it looks great. I feel I need to baby that one a bit.
New subscriber here, 🤩 wow your Hana Matoi is electric!! What light conditions made it this way? I saw one last week amongst other many weeping reds at a local nursery and it was so boring and disappointing, forgettable light green and dull pink, low graft but very mature in a 15g container - I couldn’t stomach paying $200 for it (on sale from $300) - but seeing yours makes me think about it again, maybe in the fall when it’s 1/2 price I’ll swoop it up if it’s still there, sadly because of budget and upcoming summer heat I think I’m done buying trees this spring 😢
@@Maplesinthegarden 😳 oops I meant Hana Matoi! Don’t know why I typed Manyo, my cat got me up way too early - anyway, so what light conditions does yours receive? Thank-you!
Hana Matoi has kept its colors longer than usual this year! It seems to like the dappled shade it gets all day. No direct sun. I’ve seen folks growing it in full sun though.
I am drawn to variegation, too. What was the name of the first tree you showed? Green with heavy variegation. Very impressive, and you said it holds that variegation. ❤
