@ahmoh9064, @dumsurfer88 I haven't technically gone anywhere, but life has had other priorities in the last few years. I'm a single father with sole custody of two young children and have a full-time career. I don't have time to indulge in RU-vid like I was really motivated to a few years ago before demands on me increased. I do want to get back to it at some point though.
I see that you've not made any more videos for about 3 years. I don't know why you stopped and I hope it wasn't due to something negative, but your sensitive approach to Japanese photography and culture makes your informative videos a pleasure to watch; I especially enjoyed the one about shinrei shashin. If you get the urge to start again, your efforts would be welcome and appreciated. If not, thanks for what you've done.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I really missed your work and it is finally something out of the boring ordinary reality we are currently all stuck in.
Hehe. Actually I have a lot of content I want to make but work and family demands only let me do a little at a time. Please stay subscribed and click the bell for notifications because I will be doing more! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for your thoughtful presentations of Japanese photographers. I appreciate your discussion of the techniques of the artists as well as some of the cultural influences the artists deal with.
You give some of the best comprehensive "reviews" of a photographer on RU-vid. I only wish you had a 100x more videos like these. I also have to say I'm very impressed with how you find these, seemingly, hidden clips and interviews of them.
Thank you. I wish I had the time between work and family to do 100 more. I will have more coming, but since I don't post on a schedule please make sure to subscribe and click the bell icon for notifications so you can catch new videos. I have the clips and research done for my next one, I just need to get a chance to record and edit it.
Great video! Glad to see ur active again. Would love to see a video covering Hosoe Eikoh or Tomatsu Shomei or Yamazawa Eiko Ahhhh there’s so many great Japanese photographers
There really are a lot of great photographer artists out of Japan. I have a pretty big list of photographers I'd like to cover some day including big names and some lesser known ones. I saw some work by Tomatsu in a museum a few years ago and it has never left my mind. I also want to cover some female photographers whose work I find very impressive.
Thank you for creating this video! I had watch the variety shows featuring him but could not gather much information from them since I do not know Japanese. Your insights are great!
Another amazing video!!! I've been fascinated with Araki Nobuyoshi's and Daido Moriyama's photography for months now but I didn't know Kanemura. Thanks for making me familliar with his work! Can't wait for another vid about japaneese photography ;))
Fantastic video as always, even though he may not be as popular as the other photographers as you said, it's pretty clear that he has had a huge influence on street photography in japan, there are so many photographers in Instagram who shoot like this
Can I request a video on Masato Seto? It has been a struggle to find physical information on Seto in English. Mostly everything on Seto is in Japanese or simply super expensive. However, I am not sure Seto fits within the frame of your channel. After watching your videos the style of photography you cover is raw, hectic, and urban. While Seto and his picnic series are warm and intimate - a slow space within the concrete jungle of Japan. Regardless, I love your videos as I find them relaxing and methodical. The way you articulate and inform is a real talent.
I'm glad you enjoy my videos. I don't get a lot of free time to produce all that I would like to so I've started with some artists that really speak to me, but I enjoy all photography styles. Finding English information on Japanese artists can be difficult and when it is out there it is often fragmented across different sources. I'm trying to bring it together a little more in my videos. I'm not familiar with Masato Seto, but I'll check into him.
I also like bit of foreground blur. But both my son (9) and I think bokeh (blur, especially in the background) is overdone these days. He says that if something is anywhere in the photo, then it's part of the photo, so he wants to see it clearly. (Makes nailing focus easier too.)
can u do one one takuma nakahira please. he was a collaborator with daido moriyama and there really isn’t a lot of information on him on youtube. i enjoy his work a lot more than daido moriyamas honestly as well
I don't know a great deal about him so I looked him up quick. He suffered alcohol poisoning in the late 70's and lost part of his memory. It sounds like he has an interesting story. With his work on Provoke he should probably be more well known than he is. My curiosity is a bit piqued now ...
It's interesting he was born in the same year and same city as Kanemura, but worlds apart in terms of subject and style. I'm normally not a fan of staged photos or "studies", but as I looked at Hara's websites and Instagram I couldn't stop clicking and scrolling through is work...
Thanks for the suggestion. I do actually have a Monero wallet - 46uZ92gPsoQUmRSw12KKuCTy6avVwMocy31yrCex2xRoFJPUfTak3EojaYeMv8fzyM8NhUBnLXqFVjfPYm9D2HmSPKd9xnS Come to think of it I haven't resync'd it for a while, I should start it up since it will need a while to catch up ... Thanks for watching!
