Another video sponsored by one of our own in our community: Yuki Kobayashi of the Discord group! :D Thank you for sending us such a great little book to review this week!
After a thorough hands on review I can honestly say this has become my new favorite Japanese resource I've found this year. Waaaaay more than a mere kanji dictionary, this could easily be used to learn kanji AND vocabulary! A professor friend of mine recommended this to me last Fall as something he sincerely hoped would be on all his student's shelves... and for good reason. Wanna see more of what lies inside this fantastic Japanese resource? Let's take a look into the Kodansha Kanji Learner's Dictionary!!

I knew this one would live up to what people said about it and I'm even more happy to hear it got chads seal of approval as one of the few ACTUAL books he'd recommend, At first it did seem a little pricey but the amount of information and work put into this book makes it a steal in my opinion. It's no wonder why you friend swore by it... hope this helps out a bunch of people in their decision making✌ and thanks again chad for you voice in the community.

Amazon doesn't show us the inside of the book, so your explanation of what's actually in it (including the skip system overview which I think will be most useful to me; I'm learning for fun in my free time) was extremely useful. Also it looks like there's now a Second Edition.

I bought this dictionary 25 years ago and I still use it. The SKIP method to look for a kanji is so convenient and easy to use ! Core meaning key words are so useful to remember the meaning of each character. This is, by far, the best kanji dictionary for learners ever !

@@thsudy I recommend comparing yourself to yourself instead of others. I got in that same situation of feeling like I'm learning too slowly but if you feel like that, you'll stop all together. Hey, thanks for the video, recently subscribed and I love your channel! I don't know if you review digital resources, but there's a kanji app that's honestly amazing and I was wondering if you could review it. It's called Kanji Study and it works as both a dictionary and a learning tool. I feel like it does as much as the dictionary book you just reviewed, and more, so I'd be really interested to see what you think!

I still recommend it, but it's not like you can't learn without it :) It's just a less comprehensive method doing it with this guy solo. But there's also plenty of free vocab resources online so you don't have to buy a book specifically!

Hello! I’m starting to learn Japanese and I just finished learning hiragana and katakana alphabet. So I’m wondering what I should do next. Should I learn under the JLPT method even though I won’t ever take the test? Or should I start from a book/ dictionary like this?
@ThatsMyChad

What is your goals in Japanese? What do you want to be able to do? :)
@lordofleaping
@lordofleaping 3 года назад
@@ThatsMyChad My goal is to be able to move to Japan and become a Mangaka after college. I’m currently 16 so I’ll be 22 when I graduate and around 23 or so is when I desire to move to Japan since I’ll be attending university in the United States. I want to be able to speak good enough for me to get a job as a mangaka assistant first when I’m in Japan. Which means I’ll need to be able to speak fluently to my co-workers and my boss. I’ll want to know enough to be above average in the language

I’d recommend the Japanese From Zero series. It’s a good, slow, self-paced, self-learning set of books. Chad has a review of the workbook in his channel if you’re interested. The author of it even has a FREE supplementary RU-vid series of videos for almost all of the lessons.

Hi, can I know where can I learn N1 kanji? all the books on N1 kanji I've seen are written in Japanese. I need the instructions/teachings to be in English.
@ThatsMyChad
@ThatsMyChad 3 года назад
I never learned kanji by JLPT or by instruction, I learned them along with my vocabulary (like I denote in this video). But most N1 anything is going to be in Japanese because most people are able to just read the Japanese at that point. I'm sure there is a N1 source somewhere in English, it's just not the norm or common

ご無沙汰ですね、チャドさん。会ってから何日経つのか。で、僕の点から見ると、漢字の辞書には、値段はちょっぴり費用がかかるし、非効率的に教えり方しだね。 おそらく最良の方法は、WaniKaniやRenshuuのようなウェブサイトを使用するだろうな。とても古風で実用的ではないんです。素晴らしい仕事を続けて、抜群のメリクリをして、もちろんハードラブで深く愛します。
