While it's beautiful, it's also not technically a tanto. Japanese swords are characterized by their layers. If it's not san mai, it's just a sword. You need an outer shell of harder steal, wrapped around softer steel. Then you quinch the blade with clay along the edge. This does two things. First, the metals harden at different speeds, so that forms the curve of the blade. You're not supposed to hammer the curve in like with western blades. Second, the clay forms the hamon line. It's a staple of Japanese swords. A must have. So while I can always appreciate the effort of creating such a nice blade, it is not a tanto, only a knife.

@@AswollAlpaca I'm not an NPC. I just studied a lot about Katana. I speak Japanese too. Also, have you heard the good news? Jesus is real, and he loves you. There's four simple steps guaranteed by God to give you a divine revelation. I'm not talking about feelings, signs, etc, but an honest to goodness conversation with God. Most Christans never read the Bible, so most never get this guaranteed miracle. Forgive your parents, brake down before Jesus, ask for forgiveness, and read the Bible. There's deep spiritual significance in each of these steps. They are the mustard seed of Faith God wants to see from us. They're the bare minimum of effort he expects before he reveals himself. I can state with absolute certainty that if you're guinine, and you do these steps in order, he will reveal himself to you personally. It's nothing that can be missed, nor misinterpreted. Three books of the bible will be enough for the revelation. I recommend Genesis, Mathew, and then either Luke, Psalms, or proverbs. They give the basic information God expects us to know. Just be guinine, do these four steps, and boom, a one on one meeting with God himself. You've got to do them yourself though, no one else can walk your journey. These steps are guaranteed by God to work. Please, take your salvation seriously.

@@AswollAlpaca there's actually deep spiritual significance in those steps. They are the mustard seed of Faith God wants from us. In other words the bare minimum amount of effort he expects us to put in to find him. I'm not crazy, it's just that these steps work, and God was mad AF when I had my revelation. So many claim to be Christian, but hardly anyone opens their Bible, so 99% never get to the point where they find out God expects things from us. It's all over the Bible though. But it's just a paper weight to nearly Everyone. To be forgiven, we must forgive. Until you've put in that bare minimum amount of forgiveness, ie the people closest to you that have raised/fed you your entire life, you cannot be saved. So the Bible will sound like garbage to you.bdo those steps in order and see for yourself. You just have to be guinine. It's not hard. See for yourself. They work 100% of the time, but you have to do them. Only you can walk your journey. It's all real buddy.

@StarKnight619
@StarKnight619 3 года назад
@@Tidepod_Prince its where the rust has eaten away at the metal. When you take off the rust, by either using a wire brush wheel, or using a solution and Electrolysis. A lot of blade makers, and people in general grind this away because some either dont like the look is gives or they want a clean metal look. I believe it gives character to knives or daggers. Swords are a grey area for me on this.

The tanto blade looks a bit thick like a 1/4” thick. You could forge it down a bit to 3/16” thick then texture the blade by using a ball peen hammer and possibly add a hamon line just like a traditional tanto blade by using clay paste on the blade then quenching it to give that wavy pattern on the blade. But overall your tanto looks great! Nice work! Keep it up👍

tbh I'm assuming tanto are made in the same way katana are with this but, a katana could have one pin, many of them did. I'm more concerned that the tang doesn't go all the way through the handle. @matiasdelatorreoverton3612

I agree, yet, tanto are not really meant for combat as much for seppukku or just for the sake of carrying a blade. My point is that you would barely notice it
@handsinthefire
@handsinthefire 3 года назад
No he's right. It needs to be about half that thickness. Don't get me wrong it's cool and all, just do it right.
@AndreiH1605
@AndreiH1605 3 года назад
Pretty much what I was thinking. I like the fittings and the blade curves and such, but the blade geometry is wrong in that it has no distal taper (Japanese blades are heavily tapered, no exceptions), it has a secondary bevel, which traditional blades don't have, and it's T H I C C. A thick blade is not bad in and of itself, I mean, hell yeah, cut all the way you want, but should've picked a thinner material to begin with and given it a bit of a taper since he forged it anyway. Cool video tho!
@soupicidal8289

Although I 100% agree they're traditionally meant to be much lighter, it's still nice to see a different and artistic look on it :)

@@anthonykinzy5878 no, that’s just years of experience and expertise. And the fact that some Japanese smiths decide to dedicate their life to the trade. The purpose of tools is to make the job easier. They do not degrade quality whatsoever. Easier does not equate to crappier.

@@anthonykinzy5878 not really, try to kill a armoured soldier whit chainmail and plate and im pretty sure a Katana isnt effective. Know why? Katanas are designed cuz the armours there where from wood, so dont neee to be heavy, need to be fast and sharp. But btw better wepons dosnt exist, why a katana is better than a arming sword? I mean every wep is designed for one or more kinds of wepons and armours, like, a Rapier is better than most swords for 1vs1 whitout armour (also is a myth that the estocs and rapiers are that fast) but when it comes to armour is complex, for example, a armour is a counter for most swords but is not that good against maces or pole axes
