This is a woodworker who never worked in the industry. Pro's gear is horsed in the back of the van (usually into the right places) but we cannot afford to be namby pamby precious like this.
Kevin your a ignorant A##hole. Respect the tradition of highly skilled Japanese woodworkers . They don't mass produce half assed low quality work like typical western woodworkers and contractors. They actually take pride in their work.
He definitely approached it rudely, but according to toshyo odate and Stan Covington seeing a toolbox as beautiful as this one would be awkward and embarrassing for them. Mr Odate points out the apparent irony in the fact that the Japanese are known for their incredibly beautiful woodwork but their toolboxes are just simply made with no special joinery and just nails to hold everything together. So while I believe that pointing it out was the intent of the original comment, it was far harsher and unnecessary the way it was said. All that aside, a stunning toolbox and if you want to use it on the job, go right ahead. Unless you’re in Japan or working with a Japanese crew it’s unlikely that you’ll be judged negatively or viewed as awkward because of it
I think a clarification into profession and purpose is important here too - a Carpenter, Joiner, Bodger and a Cabinet maker all have different requirements. Let the man take pride in a nice thing, if its just a toolbox for his own workshop and isnt going out to any rough jobs then there's no problem with it being a bit fancier. A bodger barely needed more than a sack to carry his greenwood working tools for instance, so yeah. Tl;dr: he didnt specify what jobs the toolbox is for, let the man have nice things.
@@stenz-kreativlabor9030 What I mean is, my van is full of thousands of pounds worth of tools in their right places but when I'm knackered at the end of the day they are horsed in quick as possible to get going home. Here in the UK we are on a hamster wheel of survival and I've never seen a carpenter or joiners van so meticulously arranged because we have no energy spare to mess around. My kind of work is a bit like ram raiding, get in, get it done get to the next job. There is no way I could maintain such meticulousness, and I'm a fairly typical British chippie. No disrespect intended.
