My father was a Sargent in the U.S. army stationed in Guam in 1945 - 46. He told me he guarded a road work detail of Japanese POWs. He wasn't armed but they had picks and shovels. He had a comb in his pocket lol.
I lived in Japan and understand their culture and mind set. It's definitely a group culture. The absolute worst thing that can happen to a Japanese is to be kicked out of the group. Most of the rank and file Japanese soldiers were conscripts and did not relish the idea of war. They were told how to think from childhood, what was expected of them and they obeyed. The real culprits of this disastrous war were in the leadership, the "militarists". The Japanese are good decent people, but they do think differently than westerners.
Well rape and murder of civilians was forbidden in the Imperial Japanese military. Which means the Japanese troops weren't ordered to rape and murder civilians instead they did it because they wanted too
Germany and Japan were very belligerent, and kept invading their neighbors all the time. Since the Allies beat and democratized them, for 75 yrs they haven’t waged a single war. If their warlike culture hadn’t been gutted out, they’d have started 5 wars at least during the period, respectively. If that’s not a great example of de-militarization, I don’t know what can be.
@@deadby15 they haven't started a war since WW2 because Japan is NOT allowed to have a large military and is under the protection of the USA. Otherwise, they probably would have tried to invade China again, who'd beat them to death.
@@carioceco2315 deflection as always, people like you disgust me, you’d prefer to support people that committed the worst atrocities in history, than stand by the people that stopped them. Nazis like you are still around, be happy we never meet.
@@carioceco2315 Most American know their atrocities, Japan kinda of just sweep ot under the rug. Like maybe some stuff we did in the Middle East is not clear even to day. But in my opinion the worst atrocity we ever did was the trail of tears or just the natives in general
@@brawlco3176 most Americans definitely do not know our atrocities beyond slavery and the genocide against the native Americans, our list is way larger than the Japanese by far. At least they stopped after ww2 and renounced war, we kept the ball rolling.
The Japanese enlisted man was compared to the cost of post card notifying him to serve emperor, like 2 cents,he was reminded by his own officers he had no value, that's where much of there behavior begins.
As a indian i respect Japanese veterans Because of ww2 and Japanese help to ina india was freed from European colonizers Without the Japanese india including whole asia would be living under western colonization .
They almost wiped out the people (talking about Imperial Japanese Forces, just so you know who I am talking about). When it seemed the Americans were winning after their landing they started executing the Guamanians who were starved down to a nub (talking about Imperial Japanese Forces, just so you know who I am talking about). The fact that the Guamanians allow them to come back and participate in peace efforts does little to endear me to the Japanese but gives me tons of respect for a damaged, raped, depleted, and starved Pacific Community that almost was wiped out! God bless you Guamanians. And next time, Japanese Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen, you come back have an "Apology Visit" with gifts and money.
You can't just assume every single Japanese veteran was a horrible rapist. Militaries are generally designed for compliance from their soldiers. That's not letting people off the hook, just being honest. The shitbags were the shitbags, and the others weren't. The US has had it's fair share of shitbags, but that doesn't mean we're all shitbags.
Nick tan it was a kamikaze/seppuku joke. I thought everyone was familiar with the history of WW2 with Pearl Harbor and the fact that Japanese find losing in battle and surviving to be worse than death
I respect these people for surviving World war 2. I don't respect the leader of the empire and I don't respect the actions taken by the leaders of the country.
Do u respect these people for shoving a bayonete through a pregnant womans stomach and ripping the baby out like a shish kabob? what about refering to natives (new guinea) as "black pigs" and the americans and australians as "white pigs" because they would cannabalize them so they would call it pig meat, black pig or white pig... sometimes they would cut meat off of people still alive, sometimes they would make their own low ranking officers draw straws to see who is going to die because they would sometimes eat their own soldeirs. I'm only going by what ive seen actual japanese ww2 veterans say in interviews, and all the photo evidence of the atrocites are out there too of course. look it up for yourself.
I always like to think that veterans who go to such peace ceremenys are "good" people but at the same time i can't help but question whether they also participated in needless raping. Also i have never heard the opinions of those japanese soldiers who didn't want any part of that. Then again they are probably not allowed to speak against other soldiers additional war crimes. Killing in war is a given but all the rest was just criminal.
How about "I am sorry" I got my ass kicked. "After I got my ass kicked, my ass kicker taught me how to make money and let me live... Also no raping and pillaging like Nanjing"
I'm a child of a Marine who served in the Pacific. He felt no animosity toward any of them, respected them and felt *key word* compassion toward them, despite the hell they experienced. They were there following orders, all of them. If alive today, I imagine my dad wouldn't mind sitting down and sharing a few beers and conversation with a JIA veteran.
I show my respect to any Japenese veterans for what they did for their country. They did an outstanding job fighting for Japan. I hope to meet with them someday soon. Congratulation to any Japanese veterans, you deserve your bravery for wear uniforms for Japan. :)
Azrik Masari Not all of them did. There's a few cases of Japanese soldiers killing fellow soldiers because they were raping women and children I believe. Not 100 percent sure but pretty close.
As a Soldier in the US Army, you don't see Vietnamese people demonizing me for the My Lai Massacre, let's not generalize every single soldier from the military, you got your scumbags but you also got people who signed up and did their duty without committing atrocities.
Elektrolyfe Now that's an ignorant statement. Where the My Lai incident was attributed to one officer Japanese war crimes and atrocities were a matter of policy. But don't let the facts get in your way.
