If we're talking "fumble luck," the Lions also had a fumble return for a TD called back because the offensive player had a foot out of bounds, and they had a Montgomery fumble returned for a TD go against them. I think the "fumble luck" was closer to even.
The rear angle not shown on TV was clear. He was in bounds when the ball was moving. It was a fumble. He was standing on the inner top of his foot trying to avoid going out so his heel and right outside portion of his shoe were not touching out of bounds until after the ball was already loose.
All this luck talk is so beyond silly to me. Anything that happens in any game like that isn’t lucky lol Mettelus made a great play on the ball punching it out and lions player would’ve to had Speedy not stepped out. Punching the ball out isn’t lucky.
One thing for sure. The Refs tryed to keep it close after we started to get a bunch of points. I know the Penalties were even but we got all of the penalties or most of them in the second half. If they didn’t call those penalties the score would’ve been very lopsided
If anyone is even close to telling me Jared Goff is not in the MVP conversation at this point in the season, I'll laugh directly in their face. His clutch factor and composure has evolved into superstar levels over the last few years. Huge props to the coaches and managerial staff of the Detroit Lions. They are truly playing as 'ONE PRIDE'. 🦁💪🏼
If Jared Goff has overcome being bad under pressure, no team is stopping the Lions. That is by far Goff biggest weakness, take away his biggest weakness, and his ceiling is winning SBs since he a better version of Matt Ryan.
These guys are a joke bro. No one takes them seriously. These pff guys are so wrong all the time. They lost a ton of subs this year because pff is just plain wrong. Jared Goff is ranked 22nd in pff Qb. ENOUGH SAID.
Patrick's elbow was down and the ball was NOT out yet. Re-watch it and its clear as day. Yall dont don't know what you're talking about. If you guys are going to make excuses for Minnesota, at least get your facts straight.
I agree as a Vikes fan when they showed the replay I was kinda sad cause Phillips didn’t get the ball before Patrick’s elbow touched. TBH it really wasn’t even that close either really to be a fumble, kinda but not idk haha
@MMC_4 I'm obviously a Lions fan but same with that one that Branch stripped and ran back for a touchdown that was rightfully called back. Your dude looked clearly out of bounds before the ball came loose. It was the right call. These two dudes are light on facts and just looking for clicks.
@MMC_4 when he got tackled they both had the ball it looked like but it was Patrick's possession to loose and the elbow went down before the ball started to come loose was how I seen it.
Thats all what Vikings fans do is make excuses lmaoooo. They even made excuses when they choked against Detroit that got them there first win in 2021. Vikings will forever be known to losing to that team and are still salty about it
Get so sick of this narrative. Bro just give the Lions their flowers. People always want to half ass give credit. If the Chiefs win by 1 it's the greatest thing. As far as what your saying about if this if that, it's about the win. We can do that to. On the Goff sack, if the defender didnt go to the face of Gibbs and they called it, we would have kept that drive going. If Montgomery didn't fumble, Minnesota wouldn't have been in position to make it close. The Viking are good but the Lions are better. And they won't win in Ford field unless we're totally depleted.
Thank you for saying this. Analysts do tricks on Mahomes' dick during every post game. Yet, Goff makes NFL history in multiple games before week 8 and he gets an asterisk next to his massively impactful performances. Goff is in the running for MVP, no doubt about it.
@@jcor.6624 That's funny, and apparently some people don't have reading comprehension skills. No one said anything about the super bowl, just pointing out the obvious. From your comment it's easy to see either your team got they ass kicked by the Lions or your team is sucking ass right now. We are have the right to be proud of our team as much as anybody else, when they're doing good.
If...if...if...if...Viking fan created a discussion topic on the Daily Norseman entirely based on hypotheticals about how the Vikings coulda..woulda..shoulda won the game..but the final score indicates otherwise.😮😢😂
Why are you trying to sell the Lions short again, I mean go ahead but you should probably talk about the blatant push off on the Jefferson TD on 3rd and long too and the fumble return TD by Branch that should have stood, those are real points not what if the ball bounces another direction.
What about the holding on Gibbs TD? Or the block in the back by Sewell on the the touchdown down the middle, or the block in the back on Mellelus? See, anyone can play that game
Because pff ratings say so. 😂😂 these guys are the worst. I was keeping track of thier picks, after week 2 i gave up. They are pure losers, because pff ratings are pure BS
Maybe the last 60 plus years of every bounce going against the Lions is finally starting to even out as far as high leverage plays go. Also, what about the Branch fumble return TD called back? That was a fairly high leverage play.
Everyone is giving them credit lol. Nobody is saying they aren't a good team. I'd argue the lions and the vikings are the two best teams in the NFL right now as it stands.
Exactly one of their TD's was a lucky off of a fake punt one we never give up long running TD's and that was because our coach is too brave sometimes and did a fake punt.. bad move and they spotted the queens 7 points and the other was a clear push off from JJ should've been OPI called but it's the queen's and they were at home.
@@Psiikixenjoy holding that L!! VIQUEENS are frauds got exposed this game. Enjoy your next L from the Rams all teams who play the Lions loose the next week. Lions hangover is real!!
@FlintTruth lmfao, game was by 2. Vikings didn't get exposed, if anything the lions defense got exposed if you wanna go there 😂😂 Both teams are solid teams, just take it at that and don't be a sore winner when you barely even beat the vikings of all teams 😂🤡
3 things: 1. I hope Campbell stops doing these 4th down fake punt situations. 2. Patrick’s elbow was clearly down before the ball came loose. 3. I do agree they didn’t want to risk fumbling. Had Monty not fumbled, he woulda been the one running the clock out. Coaches knew he was having an off game, Gibbs was averaging well over 7 YPC, and they had full trust in their defense for the final 15 seconds.
To your point about Campbell on 4th Down. Sure, I can see your point, but I would argue that he's doing it more to instill and ethos and attitude than he is using it tactically. He COULD , perhaps, demonstrate slightly more discretion in where he chooses to use it relative to field position. But, I would argue that Campbell's use of 4thD plays exemplifies the progress the Lions have made.
@@johniscariot5582 I agree with your point and have thought of it that way. What I don't like is doing these during big games like the one in the NFC championship. We have an improved defense we can depend on now, and Ben Johnson is always scheming up nice plays. Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot and let our guys do their job and not have to rely on trick plays during the bigger moments. At the end of the day it's not gonna matter. Dan Campbell is going to do what Dan Campbell does lol, and maybe that's okay.
@@hugosanchez4593 All fair points - sometimes you get blinded by having done some things a certain way and succeeded - against the odds - maybe, Campbell just needs to find a more opportune way to express his whole junkyard dog thing; but, as you say, Dan Campbell is going to Dan Campbell
This was a good game of refball. Seriously, the refs wanted to be seen and heard constantly and then just disappeared later on. Not only that, but they let a bunch Minnesota players take random swings at Lions and did nothing about it. They definitely called the penalties where a guy’s toe was two inches over the line, though. The flow of the game was ruined.
Saying the Vikings “aren’t rewarded” because they didn’t recover a sack fumble, but only got the sack is just stupid. Not to mention they literally got a fumble score in this game.
If monty doesn't fumble this isn't close. It didn't really feel like Detroit lost control of the game even when they was down 1 pt something dan Campbell has somehow is able to mentally neutralize there minds and not overthink fumbling with the game on the line. Offense defense special teams won that game
Rules committee needs to look at that massive loophole with the illegal formation not triggering the 10 second runoff at the end. Who's to say a WR who catches a pass with just a few ticks left snaps to another WR while the rest of the team who can't make it up to the line of scrimmage just get set 10-15 yards back and it only costs 5 yards?! Crazy scenarios to think about.
On that same penalized play the Vikings effectively self-spotted the ball prior to the penalty. Nailor catches the ball in the middle of the field. He runs and hands it to Bradbury. Bradbury gets in position and just... spots the ball entirely on his own -- on and over the 50 yard line, like almost a full yard ahead of where Nailor was downed. I'm rewatching the play as I write this and I don't think the referee even touches the football until both teams are lined up at scrimmage with the ball already on the ground. The ref pats Bradbury's hand like "eh, looks good to me bro, I'm not gonna be on ESPN lowlights for getting in the way of you guys trying to run the last play of the game!" And gives the ball a single slap on the side before GTFO'ing. Section 2, Article 2 of the NFL officiating book states that a dead ball is ready for play when the ball is placed down by an official at the spot where the next ball will be put in play OR when the official signals for the play clock to start. Don't the refs still have to spot the ball before every snap? They still have to mark forward progress, etc., no?! If not, why doesn't every offense just never give the ball back to the line judge and take their chances on a favorable self-spot thanks to an inattentive official?
I feel as if this offseason goff and johnson have really made a point of emphasis to improve his play under pressure. Maybe they had hutch chase him down a few times in practice. You can really see the improvement where he does noticeably better.
The narrative was just false if u get qb hits on Goff then he struggles like most QBs would but if y look at his stats vs the blitz he’s elite. Been elite for awhile
@@DannyG_. Well keep in mind blitzing does not necessarily mean you get pressure. The criticism of goff since he got to detroit, and even well before was that he turned into a pumpkin in face of pressure. He was elite last year against the blitz, but you could see some dumbfoundingly awful plays against pressure. This year? He's been really good against both.
It was conclusive. Player was out of bounds while touching the ball. All that's needed to be ruled out of bounds. He doesn't need possession, just needs to touch it while out.
@FlintTruth lmfao yes it was. Clearly you didn't watch the game where both announcers said "it's pretty clear. If you touch the ball while you're out of bounds it's ruled out even if you don't have possession" its the rules. That's why the "200 iq" play you commonly see is the packers player step out of bounds and touch the football during the kickoff return because it's ruled as a penalty. Be smarter than that dude.
Watch the all 22 film. It's out and the ball was coming loose prior. And it was ruled a touchdown on the field is supposed to be conclusive with doubt in order to over turn the original ruling. The refs definitely tried cheating the Lions several times. People will say look they both had 8 pentilies but not all penalties are even it's when they happen and how does it affect the outcome of a game. Was crazy hard core cheating for the Viqueens. You know that's because Jerry Jones is the real leader of the NFL and he was pissed about last week and told the refs to screw the Lions over. All well you tried Jerry. Enjoy that L and you'll get another one Thursday with the Lion Loss hangover!!
@FlintTruth why are all the lions fans smooth brained? The ball coming out was not overturned all that had to happen was a player out of bounds touch the ball possession or not and he CLEARLY touched the ball while being out of bounds. Weather it was coming out or not does not matter 😊
I love watching Pace play, but Cashman was definitely missed in this game for the MN defense. That said, Detroit is a hell of a team and they played them to 2 points. L hurts, but not the worst loss.
Both of these Teams are pretty equally matched. Gotta give the lions the very slightest of edges but I wouldnt count on the second contest being any less of a struggle, nor having the same result! Hyped for Week 18 already!!
Bro there is no pff number that quantifies that😂😂. Theae guys are stuck on stupid. Its easy. Unsub and stop following. Ones an alcoholic , the other is a plain loser. Viewing football through the lense of pff will have you looking stupid and broke.
He kinda got him this time, but last year Flores had Hunter, Hitman, and a bunch of soup cans playing defense. Last year Flores D to this year is kinda like comparing Rams Goff to current Goff
And for what it's worth, I give Sam darnold his props because he was thrown to the curb just like Jared Goff was and he revived his career in Minnesota this year in his balling out. So I'd like to just say that as a
You should expand "disrespectful runs" to include "ultra-disrespectful runs", I remember the Lions ran Gibbs on a 3rd and 12 and converted in the NFCCG last year
Why do people always talk about the should have could have would have and if this and if that SMH the game was played the way it was played in Detroit one and keep in mind the Vikings whole line was holding a lot and never got called for it compared to the Detroit Airline they got called for any little hole they would touch the Vikings player for 2 seconds to get called or flagged for it and then like I said that Brian Branch fumble return, that should have never been overturned because there was no definitive proof that the receiver's foot actually stepped on the white line his tippy-toes were Unbound in his heel was off the ground hovering above the white mark and his foot started to go down and then at the last second it went back up but you never see any dirt or grass or Pebbles fly up from the white mark so in my opinion it didn't even touch the white mark But even if it did touch it you couldn't tell from the replay
Jon Gruden is starting to compare Jared Goff to Joe Montana. He was serious. Terry Bradshaw compared him favorably to Tom Brady. I say he’s playing like JARED GOFF 🐐………too soon 😳…then how about ..🦁..!!
Dan is a great manager and wanted to make sure he showed he has faith in his kicker. They could have gotten closer but 44 yards is a relatively safe kick that can show you trust your kicker. Especially when you are a coach who historically doesn't trust kickers.
The Tim Patrick fumble stop it SMH his elbow and shoulder hit the ground before that ball ever came out SMH it was a good call let's talk about the Brian Branch fumble return. When they sold the up close angle on that the Defenders foot was never out of bounds and his cleat never touched the white part on the out of bounds mark well at least you couldn't tell if it touched the out of bounds Mark or not it was inconclusive so it should have never been overturned it should have stayed because that's what the original call was so Detroit got ripped off on a touchdown right there and a great play by branch
To be honest... the lions skill technically should have won by more then 9 points... at least!.. but!. simple mistakes, punch out fumble, if the lions rookies can tighten up more... next meeting with the vikings should be more of a exclamation mark win maybe a 13,15 point lead... 🙌🏽
These are the same clowns slandering Hutch before his injury. This game clearly exemplified his impact when Sam Darnold looked to have all day to throw despite the win for the Lions
Finally, someone gets it regarding the Lions being aggressive on fourth with fakes. Dan Campbell has instilled a culture of confidence and aggression, and doing what they do has been mostly successful and key to victories (re KC in 2023). I did not like the play call as a run for seven yards is pretty tough. I would have preferred them letting Jack Fox (the punter) throw the ball. He has an outstanding history passing. One incompletion (an awful drop) and five completions. Unleash the Fox!
The way you guys view football through the lense of PFF is sad and annoying. This is why no one takes pff seriously. This is why week in and week out your picks are AWFUL.This is why pff let you guys walk. And this is why no one takes your guys evaluation seriously. Ffs, if you use pff, you are so losing this season. Big time money loss. What a joke. Unsub dislike. 17k subs. Find another job.
I feel like the fumbles come from the extreme confidence Goff has in his oline. Like a blind faith that his line will block for him so he's never panicked or rushed even when a d end has him by the shoulder 😄
These guys gave the lions so kany flowers I dont understand the lions fans. Listen to the video again. Lions were awesome and beat the vikings. GOFF was amazing , best qb play I can remember. They highlight that. 140 rating under pressure when most qbs drop 30-40 points. I wish all games in the NFL were this good
What is he talking about with the elbow thing? Did he watch the game like there's a very still image of him possessing the ball and his elbow touching the ground. It admittedly looks close in real time but on replay it's obvious. Vikings couldn't win with 14 points gifted😂
Darnold has some great history against the Lions. He torched them in his first game with the Jets, he was outstanding against them in 2022 with Carolina, and he played well yesterday IMO. The game with Carolina was against a red hot Lions team that needed that game to get into the playoffs. I always thought Sam never had a chance in New York with their continually crappy offences.
I think it’s as good a loss as could have been with the situation. Both teams are absurdly talented, and as much credit as absolutely must go to the Lions, the match up is neck and neck. The Vikings also showed they can play well from behind, that they’re resilient.
It was in the last quarter. Games can still be close and back and forth with the scores not being close since back and forth doesn't always mean score.
lions never looked back from 14- 10 - this was not as close as the score - lions are clearly the better team even after we lost the probable defense player of the year - when we get defense end help we will be scary good - the only reason we have 1 loss is our offence is complicated - it took a little fine tuning - it is only getting better - your little bubble just burst - after that fumble td most teams would have folded on the road - we stopped you when we had to and drove down for the winning fg - this is what champions do - Superbowl champions
You're really glazing right now. Lions fans stuck on the narrative only they had injuries. How about a big part of the Vikings pass game was out? how about a starting CB and LB? What super bowl did the Lions win? This game was exactly as close as the score.
It was close though. "Never looked back" but the game was always within reach for either team. Its a good game dont get me wrong. Vikings and lions are the best teams in the NFL right now, lions being better than the vikings currently, but both teams are excellent.
The Vikings didn’t run out of time they had the ball game on third and four and Sam Darnold over through everybody. Let’s not act like that didn’t happen.
I think you guys both picked the Lions. I didn’t like what Dan did going for it so far back in our area. I get irritated even when we get it. But it’s a lot more funnier. JG has Ice in his veins. Goff had a 140 QBR I think.
Everybody always talks about luck or injured players blah blah happens to both teams every game it’s just part of football , lions had injury’s , Vikings were severely injured as well , both teams played great and both teams can play much better next games going to be another great one
lions are great but KOC and darnold blew this one bad at the end. darnold threw the 2pt conversion into the dirt and then missed jefferson on 3rd and 4. also a bad play design jailed nailor was right in front of jefferson potentially why the throw was high. oconnell is BASIC
Easy to pass when the lions hold every play, refs don't call it. Refs started throwing flags when the vikes were up 10 to the lions back in it. Lions will finish third in the nfc North.
If you're going to play the game what if the fumble went this way or what if the interception wasn't dropped or what if the sack what if the sack would have happened when the defender grabbed the QB's arm SMH you can literally say this about every game in the NFL. How many interceptions get dropped by the DBS in a given game? How many Defenders get rushed the quarterback and get their arm on them and then the QB happens to Slither off at the last second? And how many fumbles bounce back to the offense. It literally happens every game with every team so why is this guy talking about the lions got lucky because two fumbles landed back in Jerry goff's hands or whatever the case may be SMH
0:38 ?? Is dude serious? Yes, the fake punt did go awry. That was obviously not the play they intended to run. It was supposed to be different, but keep telling yourself whatever you need to tell yourself to make yourself feel better, bud.
