"we own the store. You work for us, buddy" Right there we have the reason democracy is under threat. Most politicians fail to understand this very simple fact and do what benefits them, not their constituents. I saw on another video that certain R politicians failed to support the bill because of pressure from their constituents ; that is EXACTLY how it should be! We put you in power, not so you could further your own career, but so you could be our voice at a higher level than we can reach ourselves. And the sooner politicians start acting accordingly, the sooner democracy will be back on track.
Politicians won't pay any attention if we don't _vote._ More than 90 million Americans couldn't even be bothered to vote in November (but you can bet that many of them are still bitching on RU-vid). We got the Republican Party in control of all three branches of our federal government - _plus_ most states - because liberal Americans couldn't even be bothered to get off the couch and fucking _vote!_
Bill Garthright thats a moot point when the majority of voters simply subscribe to a major party and vote how they are told to. that's not a democracy, that's a government run by two parties who compete for the largest army of people who do what they are told. that's why politicians think they have power over us and more the other way around , because they literally do in most cases and, the best part, we have done this to ourselves
Bill Garthright is right. The more people who don't vote, the easier a time smaller groups like special interests have in winning elections and twisting this country to their own needs. Not voting as a protest of the system or candidates is foolish for that reason and many others. Not voting never grinds the system to a halt, because there's no minimum number of votes required to win, and so long as we still have elections, the day will _never_ come when nobody votes at all. Furthermore, politicians are too arrogant to ever look at voter turnout and say, "Gee, so few people are voting. They really must not like us. We'd better resign so other, more deserving people can have all this power and money." No matter how few people vote, the winner will always claim that their victory was "the will of the American people." They claim it even if they lose the popular vote (but win the electoral college). Those who don't vote are utterly and completely ignored in every way that matters. If you want to protest the system effectively, you _have_ to get involved. Period. Staying home on election day is not getting involved. For now, that means voting for candidates you may not like (or voting against the candidate you hate the most), at least until we can get the system changed so that there is a minimum required number of votes to win, a "none of the above" option on ballots, etc.
JTN L that should be trumps fucking job, but I guess he realizes he is shitty with handling foreign affairs after pissing off several world leaders already.
More like he doesn't want to have to actually do the work of president now that he realizes how complex and difficult and time consuming it is. It gets in the way of his fishing for praise and adulation as he just 'knows' he 'deserves' and he's furious that most of America and the world doesn't agree, how dare we? So his plan is to get revenge in the only way he can, executive orders and other things that take away from the people. Only the way a malignant narcissist can.
+JTN L Good point. Not only is he giving his son-in-law duties which are clearly the jurisdiction of the State Department, he's downsizing the State Department and pretty much sitting Tillerson in a corner. I don't think we should look for any complicated plot here, though. I don't believe Trump is capable of such complex thinking. He seems completely oblivious to the possible consequences of anything he says or does, so he's just on impulse power -- one minute to the next.
You think anyone in Trumps Administration took a government class before? Or ever looked up "how democratic government works in US" on google? No they didnt.
"We're not costumers, we're citizens; which means we own the store, you work for us buddy. And I gotta say while we're on the subject, uh break time is over gotta clean up on isle five because somebody took a dump in health care". Stephen you are on fire!!! I've missed you!!!
"The government should be run like a great American company." Oh my god, it's like the government is the manifestation of Ayn Rand's ghost, except less literate.
Oh yeah, as a business...then they can save money by outsourcing everything! India, maybe? And for the "essential" personnel, they can hire sub-contractors who offer services at cut rate prices, offering low salaries, with no benefits. What's not to like about that?
senor PachuChay I have never forgotten! When I first heard about charter schools I knew we were more than 60% in trouble. The first thing that started our decline was (I am only going to go back 30 years or so because there have been bad Presidents before) the Reagan administration and Reagan himself. Then you had Bush Sr, . Bill put the country in the black for the first time in like forever but that also set the precedent for decadence, which means basically that people felt it would always be like that or longer than it was & then we had the treasonous Cheney and Bush Jr. who sold our country to the one country where the actual 9/11 attackers came from; Saudi Arabia.. trump and the current Republicans are just going to finish the job! You cannot, nor should we ever run the country as a business, we are NOT fucking CUSTOMERS, we are CITIZENS and what these traitors (you do not have to be colluding with a foreign entity to commit treason, it's any entity who is threatening the foundation of our country and Constitution, foreign or domestic) continue to forget that they work for us, not the other way around. This nepotism is the final straw, but with the lying, greedy Republicans in charge (how terrifying is that?) who knows what will happen. trump is already trying to squash the investigations into their almost likely collusion with Russia. We are going to have to storm the Bastille!
umm...idk if this is a common thing that happens on youtube? there's like about 5 anti-trump comments now that's greyed out with red text at the bottom saying "This comment has been marked as spam and is only visible to you." I mean...they're not even the most impressive of comments or anything (no offense to OP's.) Just the basic "Trump is the devil" and "Trump is terrible." The only one I'd consider spam is the one comment asking for subscribers. Two of those comments may have come from the same person. But someone else replied twice and is just fine. Is this just nothing? It probably is, right?
+senor PachuChay We have to update that phrase now; "Government of the wealthy, for the wealthy". Remember when government decided that corporations were people? Remember when government decided that money was free speech? Remember when government decided that the only people who counted were the ones who could "donate" millions to political parties? Yeah, you get the best democrazy that money can buy.
Js Travelers ~~ No, not laughing. Crying and grieving for the people and the system that had been a shining light in the midst of a politically corrupt world. Sad to see its demise. Hope it's free and independent press can soldier on valiantly. God bless America and its great people.
And Kushner will take you as his costumer. Just remember that. He will own the US and the world. He is on the biblical spot. He is raising from the Sea
Chunkboi As much as I would like to, I can't. Besides, I'm from Italy. I know a thing or two about incompetents running a country. We have this whole situation going on since 1994.
We're not okay, Europe. Someone thought it'd be epically fucking hilarious to make the drunken uncle of America the driver, and we're one weave away from hitting a lamp post going 90.
I see what you did there, Mr President. Keep your son-in-law busy with all these responsibilities so that you can spend more time with his wife. Naughty, naughty.
It's funny cause it's true. Trump himself has said on several occasions that if she weren't his daughter he'd be fucking the shit out of her (ok, I took a little literary license). You don't think he's at least jerked off to that image once or twice?
You can't condemn someone for stating a fact. Trump has - on numerous occasions - expressed how much he regrets that Ivanka is his daughter and not his wife.
It's pretty funny actually You could see this in a goofy animaniacs-esque cartoon parody, only instead of making up jokes, they can just quote the president verbatim
" Alpha Niner , There is a budget redundancy in the bureau of weights and measures , kick in the door and shoot anything that moves!!!!! " I can't breath ROFL XD
solomon kane - well, yes...any president can run the debt clock backwards, just let all the poor, old and people of color die off... that should do it. We have 330 million people now. In order to erase our 20 trillion, we need to eliminate 200 million, that should do it...lovin Trump's plan. yay!
KingOfMadCows There's actually an episode of Captain Planet where they go to the future and the planet is being run by Presidents like Donald Trump, ruining the environment for business profits.
Running the country like a business means that the government's highest priority is private profit, although it should be ideally the common weal. I don't understand how voters could support this.
Pedroleum100 For the ones that voted or couldn't vote because we Damn well know all about the Republicans illegal tactics to keep people from voting, we didn't!
I have to state my last sentence more precisely: I don't understand how voters who voted for Trump, because he'd run the country like a business, could support this.
I know, right? I can't even bear to watch anyone else most of the time, let alone the 'real news.' At least those two make me laugh while my world falls apart around me...
kevinmsft Sure they do. It's what happens when their cousins are first in line for the marryin'. They understand that whole "keep it in the family" stuff all too well. 😉
To the people who didn't vote for Hillary; at this point 2 months into the Trump presidency, is this about as bad as you thought it would be? Can you honestly say that it would 'as bad' had Hillary won as many of you claimed it would be?
Laura yeah keep imagining that would you dumb fuck. Nothing would've happened. There was never any reason to not vote for her. We have the most corrupt president and cabinet ever because people couldn't handle a meaningless email "scandal" that turned out to be a huge waste of time and resources pushing away the only qualifies person with EXPERIENCE. But yeah you keep pretending she was some evil person. Jackass
Jesus Chrest How would Hillary have started a war? The Congress and Senate are Republican. So if we did go to war under Hillary, it would specifically be because the Republican lead house gave her the greenlight.
Don't forget Stephen, Manifort also was only in for a limited time! Six months is nothing when the US election season feels like it runs for a decade. Then again, Trump is already trying to justify reelection campaign rallies in his FIRST. HUNDRED. DAYS.
yuotueb Exactly! I have no doubt that if they have been paying any attention they are like the rest of us who knows the disaster this country is facing. They have children and that takes it to a whole new level for them and all parents! Just think ivanka & Jared have children themselves but they don't care for them at all because they aren't trying to do anything to persuade trump to stop doing all these detrimental decisions by getting rid of critical regulations. I mean who cares if we can drink contaminated water or have fresh air, etc! I like 3/4's or more of this country are just beside ourselves and sick to our stomachs! If President Obama had done even.001% of these actions you can Damn well bet that the bigots/racists would have never stopped their campaign to oust him. As it is, they created their tea party in reaction to him becoming President and he hadn't even done anything yet, good or bad. All because of the colour of his skin. One of the most disturbing things I saw was watching a preacher (suppose to be a man of peace and accepting all of humanity & skin colour is irrelevant, but instead they are the blasphemers) hanging a dummy in President Obama's liking and then setting it on fire.
+Dander Spat He is a naturalized American-born citizen. His birth place is Hawaii. He is a citizen under United States law. Why is this so hard to get? You can dislike him all you want, but at least base your hatred in fact, not insanity.
It's not about making "America great again." People voted for Trump because many of them don't have a pot to piss in and they want to burn it all down and bring everyone down to their level. They may succeed in doing this.
The choice in the last election was which toilet we would flush the country down; the racism, sexism, cheating, and lying of the Democrats, or the BS of Trump and avarice of the Republicans. The Democrats broke faith with democracy by rigging the primary, and civil rights changed from equal opportunity to "hire people of color for being people of color, and hire women for being women". Trump could never have been elected without the incompetence of the DNC and Hillary Clinton, but she could not leave the results of the primary to the voters. Nothing more repulsive than a fixed election to Americans who treasure democracy.
he ran a gambling kind of business. The way he did it was at least somewhat smart but that was probably outside advice. So rather than a businessman he's more a gambling conman.
He's worse than a mediocre businessman. He cheats, lies, evades responsibility, goes bankrupt...repeatedly. He has never been accountable to anybody except his family.
...Can we have Bush back? Actually no, strike that. Can we revive Nixon's decaying corpse and have him back? Because right now, dead Richard Nixon would be a better president!
Ah, having two investigations against the two party nominees. Going public with only one of them a few days before the election. No double standard at all, just pure professionalism...
For 2020 Stephen Colbert--POTUS Jon Stewart--Vice President Bill Maher--House Speaker Jimmy Kimmel--House Pro Tempore David Letterman--Justice of the SCOTUS John Oliver--Ambassador to the United Kingdom Trevor Noah--Ambassador to the United Nations Jimmy Fallon--Guantanamo Bay Jay Leno--Arkham Asylum
Also: Must find leaker now is a sentence his phone suggests after only typing " must find " because these phones know their users pretty well these days ;) can't believe there was no line on that phrase
lol...I needed these laughs after responding to some of the far right extremeses responding to sessions new order :D...thanks for the laughs..apprecraite it :D
America might have gotten the president it deserves... but let me tell you, the world didn't get the US president that it deserves. Once again, we have to be the big downers in history and screw everyone else over
I've been thinking God was aiming for this man to end up in prison. I'm not sure why. But it is a big deal in the worlds path. There is no other explanation.
I can see it. I'm dead serious and this is all very disturbing but on the lite side he might be the only man on earth who gets washed out wearing an orange jumpsuit. lol.
Colbert, on behalf of whatever portion of our country that still deserves to call itself American, I thank you. It seems that so many have rallied around a 70 year old toddler and they're only now beginning to realize the gravity of their mistake. It's a confusing and trying time, but it's also a time to be humble about our country's shortcomings. In the institutionalized buffoonery of Trump's Presidency, satire is truly one of the most American pursuits I can look to.
How do the writers keep from being sick while they're analyzing the situation to write this stuff? Brilliant. But the whole thing is so incredibly overwhelming.
The introduction of the term and phenomenon "Consultant", means lucrative jobs for all of Kushner's friends; aka the looting will no longer be restricted within family.
"Our hope is that we can achieve successes and efficiencies for our customers, who are the citizens..." Saay wuuuuuuuuut?!! biiiiiiiiiiiitch!! You work for us! You tell em Stephen!!
