OMG! My wife and I have been enjoying your videos, and i nearly fell out of my chair when you were riding with Trail Angel Kenny he told you the story of a hiker named "Roadkill" who hiked the PCT in 2020. That was me: I'm Roadkill! He got the basics of the story correct: I was indeed run over by a bus, nearly had both legs amputated, and then suffered a massive cardiac arrest while playing racquetball (Kenny thought it was tennis) and was only saved because my partner that day was a doctor. Basically, those two events prompted me to retire from my job at WSU and finally pursue my dream of thru hiking the PCT. Kenny was an awesome host and I'd love to be able to thank him again for his support and generosity in the spring of 2020 at the height of the Covid pandemic when no one else was reaching out to help us hikers. Thank you for putting Kenny's interview in your video. Ken "Roadkill" Anderson and Thia "Goldilocks" Anderson.

Truly hardcore…going ultra lightweight, only cold soaking meals, no zeros or even neros…the heat, the sweat, the stink….you are one tough SOB….will definitely watch your triple attempt…look forward to seeing you catch up and pass all the early starters

Wow! I admire your determination the more I watch your videos. Omg! Im not a fan of that wind(lol...not really trying to be funny about the fan and wind)but seriously I would have fallen so much. The heat seems alot to take as well. The way you film your videos is great, I can totally imagine what its like there, the heat, smells, the feel of the day and night...you do an awsome job of taking us along without us really being there😊

I find your intellegent, philosophical conversation refreshing. I agree about the politics, so many people have disengaged and becone apathetic- then complain about the outcome. Open hearts and open minds are important in civilization. In the end, we all just want to live happy and free. Don't ya think? 💜

eagerly awaiting. Super excited to see how far you have gotten in just 11 days. If I were doing this hike, would be hardcore each day like you have been, 26 to 30, with the occasional 34-36 to keep the avg around 30 at least. Too beat up with my back right now to give it a go, but enjoying watching your progress towards the goal!

What sad is, when I voted for the first presidential election, I was 18, in a US Army uniform, under the impression that I was serving my country, and voting was part of it. Having an opinion was part of it. Some root for the Denver Bronco’s, others, the 49 ers, but we’re all football fans. But today, it’s the bronco’s or your hated. Great video, glad you stopped to read the book. I hope more kids your age take notes from your words. Reagan was running for office, if you’re curious which election. Be safe, watch for those rattle snakes.

Moon light hiking ~ nice, but my favorite clip was you immersing yourself in the creek. Ahhhh.... water, wonderful in so many ways - scary as all heck when flooding. Be safe Guy & I guess if you run into a pack of coyotes - you've got your own howl/growl?? Great content. Incredible ambition.

I second that, because his story was about me, "Roadkill". It seems surreal that I was one of the first hikers Kenny hosted, in April 2020, and Jaru is probably the last one. And after 1,500 hikers, all who have their own stories, that it was mine that Kenny remembered.

The whole A.T. I watched, and I continue to watch. You're very inspiring! Keep in you mind just maybe one day, if you would try the Linville Gorge Grand Loop in North Carolina, would love to see you try it in 1 day? Maybe?

Miles and miles of dry desert, wind and blow downs. Difficult terrain, for sure. It seems really dry and hot out there, and just miles and miles of beige sand, rocks and brush. Don't know how you do it, but you are crushing the miles. That wind was no joke. Always enjoy your interviews with locals, shuttle drivers and hostel owners.

Thank you so much for sharing your amazing hiking adventures with us. You sure know how to consistently put in those miles. We are wondering how it is going to be further north with all the mosquitos and flies being without a tent to get some sleep, or maybe they might be not so bad when you get there. Wishing you all the best and stay safe.

Beautiful video! Terrible first night of the video. You really had nowhere to hide from the wind. For such nights I have a mini radio. When I hear music instead of the wind I can imagine I'm given a nice but a bit too brutal massage instead of thinking of the wind pushing and pulling. And the coyotes again! How did you sleep? I could not have slept with coyotes yipping. The hot and miserable desert was fantasic when seen on video. The way you filmed it I could imagine I was walking in front of you and you were talking behind my back. Lovely for me who will never be able to hike the PCT to get to feel as if I did and could. Also a neat little camera trick I will remember for my next hike.

I came across your channel near the start of your AT hike and am thoroughly enjoying following along. Your hiking efforts are truly impressive, but you also stand out from the usual YT hiking crowd for sharing your thoughts & personality along the way. I pretty much never comment on YT (especially on anything political), but did feel compelled after watching the Kenny story. While I agree that we’d all be better off if more real conversations could be had between those who disagree, I think some of your perspective comes from you presenting as a straight white guy. You can feel safe wanting to get to know the guy that others are warning about. It seems very reasonable to me that some on FarOut will give the heads up about a hiker supporter having a large Trump “shrine”. As you noted, that means he cares deeply, but to many, that shows he’s strongly supporting a man that is actively working to make the world less safe for many types of people (some of whom are also thru-hikers). Just something to consider. Wish you the best with the rest of your journey.

I’m totally open to that too, but the centrist liberal left have demonized the American white working class of the center US. They get relatively little air time, so I think it’s extremely important to give them air time too. Even if you don’t agree with their sentiment, it’s important to understand their character and their real opinions. They are not the straw man racist evil characters the mainstream media paints them up to be.

@@JaruWalks Now I got my brain in a twist. Hiking as the current platform on which you explore ideas. The landscape as the current treadmill/platform on which ultra marathon runners perform their style of running. Well, well it doesn't seem to me that you disregard the passing landscape/platform in the same way can runners do. Are you performing your style of ideas on the landscape, or are you walking towards new to you unknown ideas? Anyway this makes me think of a qoute from a book about or by north American indians/ natives. I don't remember which book anymore but this was said; "the highest form of spirituality is political awareness." Which is something one can think about for long.

Tried watching your AT hike but you lost me over the whole shelter situation. You were entitled and inconsiderate. You do a lot of talking and give out misinformation when you aren't complaining. You said you messed your knee up and had to keep it straight then filmed yourself sitting down with legs crossed. If you had injured your knee to the extent you claimed you would not have been able to sit Indian style in front of the fire. Sorry you lost all credibility , just trying to find a way to get your videos out of my recommended.
@JaruWalks
@JaruWalks 2 месяца назад
Your knee doesn’t rotate when you sit cross-legged, look at it next time you try it. You have to stop opening and commenting on the videos. After a few months it will stop recommending the videos to you. Also, the video you are referring to is from 5 months ago. And in the video, my position was that if somebody hears another hiker snoring, then they should not wake the snoring person up to tell them they are snoring (because they cannot control that). Do I understand factually: this what you are calling me entitled for?
@MaryanneN_

All the hikers hiking solo, and videoing, use the videos to let off steam about whatever it is at that time irritating them. It's a very healthy thing to do. Those who bottle sh*t up tend to be the one who snap and later we read about them on the news. So Jaru, keep feeling free to moan and complain at us, then take a deep breath and carry on hiking. @Catntx Nobody cares, be lost.
