Seinfeld legend Michael Richards exploded in anger as he performed at famous L.A. comedy club Laugh Factory back in 2006. Jason Alexander sits down with Adam Carolla to discuss his old co-star "Kramer" dropping the N-word seven years ago.

Nothing good comes from his answering the question asked. He says "I think what Mike said was gross and wrong" and he makes headlines everywhere..."Jason Alexander betrays former Seinfeld star!" or he says "I didn't have an problems with it" and then it becomes "Jason Alexander forgives racist rant from Michael Richards." So, yea, no way he's ever going to talk about that. He wasn't born yesterday and I'm sure people have tried before to get him to comment on it.

Spot on. It's one of those classics that just never gets old. Personally I'd say Friends is the best sit-com of all time, but that sure is a VERY close race. But from those two shows, it's a long way to those others run of the mill shows out there. And sure, there are other great sit-coms. Modern Family, The Office, etc. But IMO, no one that is remotely close to the excellence and timeless qualities of Friends and Seinfeld.

Insults are meant to hit people emotionally, and that is the entire point of them. They do not have to be expressions of what people really think. I have no reason to think Michael Richards, who was out of line, hates all black people. He got impulsive and resorted to an insult that offended more people than the few he was trying to offend. I think people should try to remember that he was literally on stage, doing a comedy act. It's not the same thing, as him making statements in an interview, or writing things in his diary. IT'S AN ACT, it's not his real feelings. He might have failed to make people laugh, but he was attempting to be humorous. People that get offended shouldn't go to comedy clubs.

@@snakecharmer3587 The audience was being pretty racist too but no one talks about that. Still, do you know anyone born before 1950 of any race that wasn't racist? It's like I'm old enough now to see the different stratospheres of racism by age groups. That scene was definitely harsh and very racist. It's very disturbing to watch. What it doesn't show is how the heckler had been calling him a "cracker" and other things loud enough to disrupt the show for several minutes. He finally got baited into responding in kind in the heat of the moment. I don't think he is a racist. I think he was angry and said things to be hateful and mean in the same way he was being treated. The fact he let his anger get the best of him though is why he was not meant for stand up comedy which requires very thick skin.

Instead of just saying that he was a great actor on the show, he could have said that he never picked up on any racism in his 9 years of working together. He could have said that Mike's outburst was simply being fed-up with a group of rude audience members who couldn't care less about *his* feelings while he's working, and lashing out at them in the most hurtful way, going "there," where one isn't supposed to go. That's what one does when one loses composure, and explodes in rage. It was a tempest in a teapot, but because the dreaded "N" word was used, society made it a big deal.

I think Richards was just supder-duper angry that he was being disrespected, lost his cool, and said all that stuff simply because he wanted to really, really upset the heckler. I think he got caught up in the moment, lost all sound judgment, and just went off. Everyone has said stuff they didn't mean in regards to something they'd otherwise be sensitive to, just to really incite someone. Obviously his incident was on a whole other level than most, but I think it was from a place of "he's really making me angry, so now, for revenge, _I'm_ gonna make _him_ as angry as possible." I don't think it came from a place of racism.

Jason was just like you'd think: funny, warm and just a nice guy. Michael was a lot more like his character on the show; mercurial and unpredictable, but also a caring, personable guy. I made Jason and his friends a whole steak dinner in Vancouver. I didn’t bother him but I dipped out of the kitchen to get a glance of their table to see if they had eaten. I changed into new chef whites as it was at the tail end of a Friday rush. I’m pleased to say, when I dipped out to see how the tables were doing, I caught his glance from across the dining room and he gave me a head nod and smile like, “it’s all good!” I kept my distance as he was also holding court at the table. But when Patrick Warburton came in, I was filling in for someone with a few cocktails in my system. I took his order and made his food, got off shift and took a picture with him outside, he threw his hand around my shoulder and we said “devils!!!” From fry cook to sous chef was rugged but downtown Vancouver, I had some cool experiences being able to work front and back of house. Met a lot of notable folks. That said, my time wasn’t worth the amount of corporate fellatio to make a better than cheque to cheque living. Corolla's recount of Gloria Allred said about Michael Richards is demonstrative of why she is a shame to the legal profession. "He needs to pay" is not a reason to take on clients who literally have no claim and she has done it for 40 years. She never actually represents clients in real legal proceedings. It's always press conferences with tearful women, sometimes legitimately so, but who have no actual legal recourse against anyone. The queen of media hound lawyers who don't actually practice law. He made the mistake of thinking that he could make a comedy bit out of anything, and because of his 'Seinfeld' resume, it would go over. He misread the room and the cultural moment. That's a textbook mistake for a performer, like Gilbert telling the Empire State Building joke at the Friar's Club just a few days after 9/11. I think it's funny, but the room didn't, for obvious reasons. Richards has never, not before nor since, had another complaint about his behavior, thoughts, or feelings toward non-white people. He had one stupid, over-the-top moment. If you want to judge someone on their very worst day, then have fun with that.

exactly. First off all of these blacks that are so offended should be ashamed at the behavior of the a-holes that were heckling him. He didn't react the right way--but his only goal was to give them a (psychological) punch in the face. And he did. The a-holes immediately started whining and crying. But he never went into any long diatribes about 'blacks are ruining society by doing this', 'blacks are genetically inferior because of that...'. He was only trying to come up with the best 'punch in the mouth' he could. Not the right way to handle the situation--but he's no racist.
