Jason Becker is another universe. That's him...............and then we can start countdown. Every modern Guitar player watching a 16 year old doing this would be envy of his talent. Jason knew he had the talent, and with intelligence, never stopped practicing, giving his live to his Guitar. No one will ever touch a Guitar with that grace and power mix in perfect sinergy.
@@widehotep9257 Fortunately for Vai, he was blessed with a few more years to develop that tone & style. Jason had all this going on at 16…….just imagine….
Fastest for sure, but it’s hard to compare him to say Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughn. What you hear are all kinds of influences in his playing, from Van Halen to Yngwie Malmsteen. He had yet to truly create his own unique sound at that point still.
@@jonaskessler326 never really got the chance to with the instrument. however his music now shows an inkling of what he could have written with the instrument
@@gualt6762 no doubt, but he wasn’t the greatest of all time at 17. He merely had the potential to be, and perhaps he might have become at 27 as you suggest.
@@jonaskessler326 The songs he wrote were the best compositions of any guitarist i've ever heard. He was also unbelievably technically proficient. So yes, there's a case for him being the greatest of all time, even at a young age.
The best part, he was smiling :) I hope everyone doesn’t get lost in becoming the worlds greatest musician to the point where they forget to be happy about music.
Jason was definitely one of the all-time best guitar shredders of all time. His dexterity was amazing. It's so incredible that he is still composing music despite having that evil medical condition ALS. He's an incredible guy for sure!
Tony S. compare their songs and then start talking . Jason was 14 or 15 here, what was malmsteem doing at 15 ? You guessed it right, trying to play chords and messing them up. Jason at 14 was better than ynwie could ever be technically and compositionally Jason has no competitors . In other words , he’s the best ever . Know that now or you’ll later on realise it when you mature musically.
Awesome video! Watching Jason jam on his first real tube half stack at home. And that JCM 800 sounds killer with the master running it, even at this young age. You can see the Peavey Studio 40 he jammed on for years before getting his Marshall. You can see him ripping on that little amp at his high school in another video. I love how you can hear his Dad ask "Is that as loud as that thing will go?" Then Jason cranks it! One of the many reasons why Jason is a legend. Supportive parents! Parents, support your kids in their endeavors. They may wind up being a legend as well.
Seriously. He was able to cultivate all of that extreme potential so young from having a supportive environment and opportunity to practice as often and even as loud as he did. I really think he's probably the best guitarist to walk the earth.
For what it’s worth he accomplished more career wise and guitar skill wise in his very short time as a physical player than most anyone. If you took every virtuoso guitar player he’s definitely in the top one percent. I didn’t find out about Jason until the last year which kinda sucks because I stopped playing in bands a few years back and never even play anymore. I think if I would have found out about Jason early on I would have been a better player. I mean 20 years old with that much skill just doesn’t happen. It really still blows my mind that he could play so cleanly and so technical at blazing speeds. I know some dudes that can play fast like that but Jason had the feeling down and that’s just something you can never learn. I personally don’t have the feeling to be a shred player and never really had the desire to. I have feeling playing rhythm. I just could never imagine being able to play like Jason. It would take me a few lifetimes to accomplish what he did in 20 years.
He is indeed a True Prodigy! I know he would exceed Satch and Vai. Even give Yngwie a run for his money. Jason Becker is and will Always be amazing to me. AIR is the most Beautiful compilation in my Ears. ❤
I think Jason could be 16 or 17 at that time you can see his great tecnique for that age but his phrashing wasn´t too good, but only two years later in 1988 you see his incredible progresion his phrasing was amazing, i cant wait for his new album i think is going to be release on december 7
he was always just noodling in front of his friend lol, Jason was already Classically trained by this point go listen to his tapes from when he was even younger ahaha
He was 17yo here.. im 17yo now, he is such a influence and inspiration to me and many other guitarists. I'm currently writing songs for an EP that i might finish this year.
Ahhh Jason, you wickedly intense badass! I miss his superhuman fretwork pyrotechnics like nothing else...but we still have his beautifully musical mind and soul in this world, that's still a win in my book!
He's like 17 here maybe? in 3 years he's getting ALS and in another 2 maybe... he's done with guitar. They need to figure out what is causing it so they can try to correct it.
+vomitedshit He's gone longer than most with ALS (of course being famous helped). AND having intelligent parents helped tremendously. How can doctors not examine ALS people to find out WHAT is different from a normal person and then fix the shit? I'd be doing muscle biopsies and looking at all the neurological enzymes and hormones and finding what is off and then giving him a supplement of that or suppressing what is too high.
+Cavalry he was born in '69 ( same year as Buckethead, interestingly enough ) so either 16 or 17. Pretty impressive.... to be able to carry on at that speed for that long without any glaring errors... I would be *thrilled* to have that kind of a session, and I'm 22....
+TruthSurge About 2 weeks ago they announced that they have discovered that it is a protein that is somehow causing ALS and they fully believe that they will be able to fix it. If you do a search I'm sure you''ll find the news story in which the scientists make the announcement. It's great news!
+Pegleg metalhead I hope that is true. Man, wouldn't it be insane if they could actually CURE JB? and anyone else (and not gouge them in the process). He would have a LONG road of rehab. Probably at least 5 years before he was fully going, I'd bet. But that's a short time compared to how long he's sat motionless just waiting and watching. I hope he can get in on the ground floor and get his mobility back.
Witnessing the Cinéma Vérité of Jason Becker absolutely ripping the tone out of a cool gumdrop red Marshall with massive natural talent is overwhelming. This time capsule is seriously inspirational, thanks for the upload!
tremolo arm, floyd rose, who needs those if youre a softy with talent for music, gratefully alive, muchas gracias PabloPhony! I once listened aye Steve Vai instrumental album and I got soo bored..., anyroad ...( I play Yamaha Pacifica 112Vs tuned a whole octave lower and theyre doin just fine), I really dig Mr Steve V, but to listen to Jason Becker`s albums is for me like listening thousands of Joni Mitchells Albs in aye nanosecond...., now im gonna find aye tune called Slowburn... taken care by the whitcolts and musty neibors, Yours for now, K : ) psst: try luv yourself....
Why did God have to punish us by giving Jason Becker ALS killing Randy Rhoads at 25 years old.... not fair how life can change. Jason becker. Was going to be the absolute biggest thing in the 90s so sad I cry when I think about Jason.
He has some pretty nice compositions and some nice slow playing mixed in with his super fast runs. He shows that he can do both, and he has good tone on the bends. I think this is the best he can do at that time. He was really stretching out here and showing his entire bag of tricks. They probably had that camera lying around for when he was having a good day. Maybe the most able guitarist in the world, I don't know. Definitely one of the best I've seen and heard.
saw this in 2014 with guitar in hand, gave up temporarily and practiced. Re-watched this with guitar in hand tonight. I am now selling my gear lol.....
@@mack4838 It sounds picked on the album too if you pay attention to the pick attack. And it does make sense since that is the kind of pattern Jason would precisely pick. But anyone can play how they like it, Jason did it his way, You can do it your way and add your own flavour to it.
Sorry but Jasons playing here is rushed untidy and in parts quite out of control. He was at this point not even close to Yngwie in technique...In 1986 Yngwie was playing utterly flawlessly with incredible vibrato and only guys like Vinnie Moore, Macalpine and Greg Howe and a handful of others were comparable to Yngwie's jawdropping mastery of his style. Having said that Becker as we know went on to play to a very high level and wrote and co-wrote some of the best instrumental rock I have ever heard and Becker ranks in the top 10 for ability and writing original tunes. Saying Yngwie fans should check this out as though they will think again who is really the cats whiskers ect is a bit full of it IMHO:)
From 3:57 to 4:17 sounds like a little section from Speed Metal Symphony. (Except without the tapping in the beginning of it) Always neat to find earlier segments of songs that aren't fully put together yet. Also I just found a part of this that is in Concerto! Its from 1:06 to 1:21. Pretty cool to see two segments from two Cacophony songs in this.
@@8tchtrain they were actually very tied tho. Been analyzing them and studying very carefully for a while! Both 18 nps when alternate picking, they both were unhuman lol. Gotta love them both :D
@@madden7732 Kinda true man but Shawn is kind of in a different dimension. Myself and my friend have been analyzing this shit for like 13 years and my friend can play like Shawn Lane, I know a bit more than most about this stuff.
@@andrewkeen3129 I've also been analyzing Shawn and Jason's amazing playing for a very long time. Conclussion was a tie. I think its pretty great your friend plays like Shawn! Having That amazing and out of this world speed is just wow!
