Also in the scene when max went in a trance, he thought Lucas was doing one of those rituals Eddie was doing.

I think you're a legend for making this video. Jason is a very misunderstood character. Like hello this girlfriend AND friend died within a week and he's going mad with grief, and he truly thinks Eddie and them are in a cult but let's just go with ...racially fueled. Idk. He didn't understand but the funny part of the satanic panic thing is like Dustin said "they're not far off" ps the actor did a great job. I hope I see more of him.

Yeah Jason wasn't racist. He cared about Patrick. Billy was racist. Caleb McLaughlin said so.

Jason is a villain. That is made abundantly clear. He's a tragic character though who was already living in fear due to the satanic panic stuff. And losing his girlfriend made his mind snap and he only got more unhinged when his friend was killed right in front of him. Jason truly believes he's fighting against the literal devil and his cult but in reality he comes extremely close to becoming a murderer himself.

@@SamsarasArt Jason was not a villain. He was an anti-hero because he wanted to save Hawkins, but just misunderstood who the real threat was. If Jason found out that Lucas was telling the truth, he would've come to hating himself and feel so sorry for what his actions led to. Therefore if he survived in to season 5, he would want to convince everyone he was wrong about Hellfire and try to redeem himself into joining the main characters into killing Vecna.

I wish that Jason didn't die still thinking that Lucas was evil. I wish Jason realized that Lucas was telling the truth and that he was indeed wrong about Eddie. Even though Jason's death was cool, I don't think he deserved that death. Jason was an anti-hero. He was trying to save Hawkins, but he just didn't know who was behind all the murders. He didn't deserve to die of ignorance. If someone like one of the guys from the Hawkins Post that picked on Nancy got ripped in half or even that Terminator Russian guy from season 3, I would've really enjoyed the death. Jason realizing that Hellfire was innocent could've led to an interesting character arc for him. Here's what I think could've happened if Jason survived... Jason wakes up from being knocked from the fight and sees Lucas grieving over Max telling her to stay with him. He sees Lucas telling Erica to go get help. Jason's confused why Lucas is behaving like this since he thought Lucas was trying to sacrifice Max. Then the gate opens up. Jason is shocked by this and manages to move out of the way in time. He wants to ask Lucas what the orange thing that just opened up is, but Lucas is too focused on Max being dead. Jason then says "You weren't lying... Were you?" Lucas then gets all pissed at Jason saying that this is all his fault. He would say that if he had just listened to him and also not step on the walkman crushing it, Max would've been alive and the gates wouldn't have merged and now Vecna's monster army has a way to come through. And he would also say how it's Jason's fault for turning the whole town against Hellfire. Lucas would say how everything is gonna go to shit now all because of Jason. Jason would then collapse to his knees hating himself for what his actions had led to. He even starts to tear up as Lucas continues crying because Jason now knows Lucas is going to suffer over what happened to Max the same way he had over Chrissy. But when he finds out that Max is alive, he will be somewhat relieved. He will want to go to the hospital, but Lucas doesn't want to see him. Jason promises he will listen to everything Lucas has to say so he can understand everything, but Lucas is still pissed. When the other members of the group find out that Jason knows the truth and is no longer hunting them, Dustin will reveal how Eddie sacrificed himself to save them and what Eddie said happened on the night Chrissy died. Jason would get all emotional knowing that Eddie really was trying to help Chrissy, even try to wake her up from her trance, and was even willing to leave her along if she didn't want to go through with the drugs so he didn't make her uncomfortable. Jason would wish he could thank Eddie for being a good friend to Chrissy and tell him that he was sorry for how he viewed him. Jason tell his friends how his was wrong about Hellfire and he wants the group to tell him and his friends about everything with Vecna and the Upside Down so they can understand what they're up against. The thing that will surprise them the most with being explained everything is finding out what really happened at Starcourt. At the end of being explained everything, Jason would still want to understand from Lucas why he didn't tell him he was in Hellfire if they weren't a satanic cult. Lucas then finally opens up reminding him what he said in the attic. Lucas says how he wanted to be popular. But then he goes into more detail saying he wanted a fresh start. He didn't wanted to be viewed as a nerd anymore. No more bullying. Jason could then say that if Lucas was honest to him before this whole chaos started, Jason probably would've supported him. Jason would say while he wouldn't be friends with Eddie, Jason wouldn't want to get in the way of Lucas being friends with another group and would support him. Jason would want to tell the police and the locals how he was wrong about Hellfire, but he wouldn't know how to convince them without telling them about Vecna or the Upside Down since he knows no one would believe them. Jason would want to go to the hospital when Lucas visits Max to support him. With that, he can be in the room when El arrives. Jason can then say "So you're the super powered girl they've been telling me about." He can then go up to Mike and say how he's sorry for convincing the town about Hellfire being evil so he can prepare Mike for a whole lot of ugly. Maybe Jason could even come along to help out with Hopper's cabin since Lucas would insist on him going to help out and get to know El, Jonathan, Mike, and Will more so they can build their bond so their team will be strong. Jason would even bring his friends over to help out with the cabin. They would apologize when they arrive since they say that they did trash the place up when Lucas led them there. And when Jim Hopper arrives, Jason would be utterly shocked to know he's alive. And with hearing Hopper's side of the story, that would be the point when Jason would ultimately gain their trust. It would be the point he would know they're not lying about anything and will stand by their side until the end. Now, in season 5, if Vecna decides to more curse stuff, he could torture Jason. This would lead to him seeing an undead version of Chrissy saying how he wasn't there for her during her nightmare trouble and how she's mad of how he was trying to kill Eddie. An undead Eddie would then appear saying how it's Jason's fault the whole town now thinks he's a psychotic murderer. Then an undead Patrick appears saying how Jason didn't save him when Vecna killed him. Then an undead Max appears saying how she's dead because of Jason fighting Lucas, stepping on the walkman, and causing the four gates to merge. She would then say "Lucas was right about you. You ARE a raging psychopath." Then Vecna would appear saying "They were weak... just like you." This would infuriate Jason into attacking. He would say as he attacks "This is for Chrissy! And Max! And Patrick! AND Eddie!" But now if Jason found out sooner that Eddie was innocent and joined the main characters, he and Eddie would have a special scene together with Eddie telling Jason would happened when Chrissy died and Jason would thank him for being a good friend to her and sorry for how he viewed him. When Eddie says as he's about to play his guitar "Chrissy, this is for you." Jason would be glad to hear that. With Eddie dying, Jason would ask why Eddie sacrificed himself. Eddie would then say "Because... Chrissy would want you to go on." But if Jason sacrificed himself instead, Jason would be held in Eddie's arms and he would say "I was wrong about you... You're all right....... Do it... for Chrissy....." But if Jason did survive into season 5, I would've wanted him to sacrifice himself to save Lucas and Max.

In his own mind, sure, but he's a sociopath. The kind of person who has no issue using tragic deaths for his own benefit. He's also shown to be able to manipulate the masses with ease on multiple occasions. He literally forms a lynch mob to kill people he deemed to be guilty. Like I get how he made the conclusions he did. Having no knowledge of the upside down or Vecna, him believing Eddie to be guilty makes sense. Chrissy did die in his trailer and has gone missing. Also Eddie was present when Patrick was killed. He's obviously traumatized from losing not one but two people close to him so he's not thinking with a clear mind. Not to mention this was in the thick of the satanic panic about D&D and Jason is shown to be quite religious given be has some Bible quotes committed to memory. As such he is 100% certain Eddie is guilty and deserves to die along with anyone defending him. And we see the lengths Jason goes to get revenge. Jason is a villain. Not a hero. I would consider him a tragic character who genuinely believes he's doing the right thing but his mind has snapped and nearly became a murderer himself. I think his death had some symbolism going on. Jason was only in Victor Creel's house in order to avenge his girlfriend's and best friend's horrific deaths. He's consumed by revenge that he ends up being consumed physically when the final gate is opened. If he let the police handle things instead of being a vigilante, he most likely would have survived. In the end, Vecna not only killed his girlfriend and best friend but indirectly killed Jason too. Also people who believe this was racially motivated are mistaken. He would have done the same thing if anyone else was with Max instead of Lucas.

I think it's kinda funny how your second paragraph justifies his actions that you condemn in your first. But since making this video, I'm willing to call him a tragic-hero, instead of just a straight up hero. If he had been told the truth, I believe he would have turned all that righteous fury on Vecna, and would have been a great ally to the good-guys. I'm mostly upset with the race-card, and him being written off so carelessly, when he acted heroically, even if his actions weren't in line with the protagonists. I disagree with him being a villain though, non of his actions were evil, which I think is necessary for being a villain.

Let me say something, this goes full Karate Kid theory, that actually true. Johnny was not a bad kid, he just mind his own business and Daniel shows up as a prick more then anyone. What happening, in my opinion, is that this kind of writers trying to recreate some parts of people they know, forging a plausible person as character, then forgot to put some sauce to make then really X or Z. Like Billy, he was totally dick, but in the end was humanized and we all understand the Whys about his behavior (or lack of). Jason could be another Billy, but they didn't want that right? So they take the best white cis christian leader jock boy trope and give a reason to flourish his violent behaviour, but boy... they forgot to put more evil sauce and let this so relatable to anyone, that "racism and conservative are the same" bullshit goes off. But, I thinking more about this and... is that really they want to Jason? A "white cis christian conservative (racist) villain"? Well... I'm thinking about Steve first draft, they admit Steve was to be a villain or antagonist whatevah... but they like him, people like him and they change everything about the character. NOW think with me... and if they saw this coming again and decided not give a chance to the character just because "not another Steve pls" between then? I'm telling this as a alternative way to think, to the Duffer Brothers. Like George Lucas with Darth Maul, he kill him soon to not create another Darth better then Vader. Well..
