You have good taste, He had to be hurting when this was written. I can't imagine! Ultimately, it is the same emotion no matter who you are. I know, because I'm there.
Usually I'd have something to say about that lady with her hands up but the first time I listened to this cover I had it on in the background while I was busy with something else and I was doing the exact same thing as she is, and I was by myself in my living room, so I can only imagine what I would have done if I were there
It's always good to see this band cover Petty. "Runnin'...", "American Girl", Jason et al nail 'em. That said, this is the paragon Isbell performance of a Petty song. Fuckin A. How he sings the 3rd verse without bawling is a mystery to me, because I feel on the verge...
the spirit of the song was what Tom Petty embodied while he was here, and as a child raised on that soundtrack it only feels natural that Jason took that torch without knowing, and carries the song forward. We pray for peace while we cry through song, Tom knew that, Jason knows that, we're all just here to watch their endless testimony about what it means to live and breathe.
@@CharlesNicholsonhackpoet This is the same performance, but it sounds a bit different mixed on the album. I recorded this with a phone that was starting to have audio problems on playback. Sounds great on the album.
