When I told my best friend that I had depression and anxiety she said something along the lines of "So what, just because you have these names for how you feel, it doesn't mean you're any different. You may have them but they don't define you, I love you for you" It really made me realise that just because I have been labelled with having "depression" or "anxiety", I'm still me and they make me into who I am - they do not define me, but rather they have made me into the person I am now. I'm still loved by people even though I'm battling these demons. I'm glad I told my best friend and I'd do it every time if I was placed back in that situation but her response showed me that I don't actually have to tell anyone about it because they don't need to know the labels because they do not define me. You are not defined by the mental illnesses that you have, you are loved for you. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise
One of my favorite things about RU-vid is this comment section, so many people feel similar things and feel so alone but reading these comments I don't feel like I'm alone, everybody struggles, some more than others and I hope everyone can get through their lives one day at a time
This song is very special for me, I am a veteran and i did things for "my country " against my moral horrible things that still haunts me and i deserve that I'm not looking for sympathy. But this song saved my relationship with the most wonderful woman I've met she didn't understand my ptsd or why i was the way i was I opened up to her with this song and even tho she's not with me anymore she helped me find that humanity I lost over there.
Hi thr. Though i am nt sure abt the whole story, bt i am guessing probably u didnt have a choice but to obey the orders given to u no matter hw cruel they were. I hope u can genuinely accept yr past, forgive yrself and move on. Give yrself another chance and make the future a better place by perhaps volunteering more actively to atone for yr mistakes. Also hopefully relieve yr guilit by talking to counsellers or whoever u wud find comfort talking. Personally i find meditation helpful in guiding me to accept and love myself more. lg575 It's tiring pretending to be happy and friendly when you're not. I try to smile and be sociable but its not how I feel. I'm also afraid to tell people I have mental illness because they'd treat me differently. Like I was not a whole person, like I needed to be handled gently.
I used to be really scared to tell people about my depression and GAD. I used to think people would think of me differently, feel bad for me. I didn't want that. I just wanted to be seen as happy, enjoying life. I didn't want people to know I was thinking about my death everyday. It changed when I finally broke down and told. My mom was the first to know...then everyone else. I got help, felt relieved. I broke free from my depression. Do it, tell someone. If they truly love you, they won't think any different of you. They will help you through whatever you need. Don't bottle yourself up, it causes so many more problems.
I wonder on a daily basis what would happen if I told my friends some of my many secrets, I wonder how they would react and if it would change the way they look at me. Sometimes we get so comfortable being able to hide behind our veil of secrets, never having to show who we really are and never being worried what others will think, but after a while that comfort goes away and you feel trapped, too scared to let anyone know the real you and unable to fully trust anyone.
if your friends are true they will love you despite your flaws, each and everyone one of us has them. we're not perfect. It took me a while to really accept my scars, but after a while I realized there was still beauty in me.
TiffanyB. When I had a bad depression I was afraid to tell my friends too because I thought they would look at me differently, in a bad way. It went so far as I convinced myself that they weren't really my friends. When I was getting better I told one of them though, and she listened to me so lovingly and she is one of my best friends again.

There is only one person who I trust, he is my cousin, he is literally my brother, best of friends we are, he doesn't know about my depression, my anxiety problems, my pain. Every time I see him I'm the happiest person alive, always up beat. Then when he leaves, I take off the mask. I told him that the next time we'll see each other I would tell him why I trust so much, I trust him so much because he helped me forget the problems and he made me smile like no one else would, he made me comfortable in my own skin, and I'm so scared to tell him this cause he will be leaving for college when the fall comes. I will be going to the same place in a couple years, but Im really starting to feel the need to tell him what is going on, a friend of mine was murdered at that college and every time I try to fall asleep. Pictures of my friend's wake and funeral come back and haunt me. he saved me from myself, and I'm so scared to lose him. I can honestly say if he wasnt for him, I wouldn't be here typing this post.

What if I told you about all of those nights that i cried silently in my room so that you couldn't see or hear me because I was too scared that you would see the truth.That i'm not okay that i'm screwed up in more ways than I can count. What if i let you in on the charade that i play just to make you happy. Would you see me differently? Would you still love me? If you knew the broken mess of a person I've become would you run away or would you be the parent that you never were and help me.

These comments are so bitter sweet, because its filled with other people who understand one another (including me) yet we are to far apart (where we live) to help each other out of these massive holes that we have dug our selves into, threw the lies we tell our selves and others. I suffered with sadness for 50 years. At 52 after thinking I couldn’t go on I realized several things. First I had to forgive my parents. Then I had to learn to forgive myself fo making bad decisions based on hurt that I felt. Everyone of us in this life feel alone, sad, unloveable. We were intended too. If we never made mistakes, never felt pain or sadness. We would never cry out to God to help us. I didn’t have a real father but I have something even better, I have a Heavenly Father that lives me unconditionally. He never put conditions on us, he only ask that when we did wrong to ask him to forgive us and try our best to stop doing wrong. Why? Because he lives us and wants the best for us too. I can tell you this for sure. Life is made up of our thoughts and words. Don’t speak or think negatively and you won’t feel it. God says if we are sick say we are healthy, we we are sad day we are happy , if we are poor say we are rich. Speaking positive and thinking positive brings the same into your life. Forgive everyone. Everyone is fighting battles, just different ones. I challenge you to listen to some of your favorite songs and just imagine God was writing that song and sending it to you. We have walls up, scared to open up to protect our hearts. Showing a brave face whilst having a fake smile, to hide how we feel deep within. Opening up seems to cause pain rather then happiness as we are judged, turned down and looked ill upon for everything our hearts truly feel. This song is so sad 😭 because people hide their masks because of fearing REJECTION. I am so glad I met Jesus, not in a church or in a Sunday School class but on my knees. He told me He loved me for who I was and was willing to show me how real His love and acceptance was. I can really relate to this. I've been trying to decide for a couple years now if I should tell my parents one of the biggest secrets of my life. I knew they'd look at me differently, but I wasn't sure in what way. I tried to just let go of it, pretend it never happened, but things just got worse, and I almost lost my friends because of it. When they finally found out, they were really proud, and I was really happy. Not only had they accepted me, I had also saved the world from destruction and everyone knew I was half ghost.

I think the great thing about this song is that there can be many interpretations of it cuz it doesn't give away too much about the original meaning. After reading the comments, I got that everyone can have their own interpretation, maybe even based on what they experienced themselves. I personally think that this song is about showing someone who you truly are, or more like knowing that no one ever saw the real you. Nobody knows your dark secrets, nobody knows what you think or feel or how your life is going. People expect so much, but they just don't know you. I think the secret is that the person is sad and hurt, mentally and physically, maybe, and found someone who they maybe want to share that with.
