Long time, no talk. Here's a new video and we're bullying RWBY while we're at it. Osamu and Jaune are both similar in terms of an underdog and growing strategic characters. But which one is better? Stay tuned.

I think its a case of a writer's characters are only as smart as the writers themselves are
@brainflash1

Here's a strategy I came up with WHILE I was watching the episode for the first time: Since the Geist uses its huge limbs to protect an obvious weakspot (ie, the face), simply target the limbs separately instead of trying to get past them. Have Nora target the legs (naturally) and Ruby target the arms to keep the Geist occupied, while Ren uses his semblance to get in close without being detected and target the face point blank. It's not that fucking hard, even without the benefit of a third person perspective. Hell, that's what I thought Jaune was going to suggest. Hardly 3D chess.

I think it's more a case of Miles is a cuck as a writer and he doesn't even want his boi to be surviving let alone thriving. Hell I'd say that's the case for all the male characters he does the writing for. The other writers could also be at fault, but with every Male character in the show one of two things happen, they're always destined to be incompetent, and they need to get saved by the strong waman characters or they get portrayed as someone who's gone insane or someone with bad morals simply cuz they don't agree with team RWBY's morals thus leaving no room for a morally grey character that doesn't simp for team RWBY. If it weren't for the fact that Rooster Teeth has gone woke and he's probz just doing this to keep his job, I'd say that Miles is a literal beta male with a hardcore submission fetish if he always wants his character to be saved by the heroes instead of actually becoming a hero.
@wolfzend5964
@wolfzend5964 3 месяца назад
@@brainflash1 Care if I add onto that? Jaune sees it replace a limb, and has Ruby and Ren destract it. Meanwhile, have Nora destroy and nearby trees or boulders to prevent it from replacing it's armor and limbs. With nothing left to jump into or repair itself with, they finish it off. Nora breaks it apart from a backside attack, breaking the main body, and with nothing for it to jump into, it becomes vulnerable, for an easy kill from Ren or Ruby.

@@whateverwhatever4476 Okay, but just cuz the protags are women doesn't mean they have to be the coolest characters on screen 100% of the time. A gud show/movie that truly embraces diversity knows how to hand the spotlight over to both men and women for an equal amount of time even when one of them are MC's and one of them aren't and I like many true fans of the show would say that they nailed this in the first 3 volumes of the show when they still had Monty around to workshop ideas with their writing team, which is why Miles is such a cuck compared to previous male leaders that show's writing team has had in the past.

One thing I love about Osamu is how he's not a natural genius. Most characters in his positon were smart from the start, but he struggled a lot to become a proper strategist. And even now he's not superior to his peers, he's still growing.

The one thing Osamu does have going for him from the start is that he's cunning (distinct from being smart). He'll actively weaponize the enemy's expectations and get them to make wrong moves, because he recognizes that he's not here for a good match, he's here for a win.

I think one thing to note is that osamu is smart, it’s just that in the elites of world trigger, normal person smart is equivalent to nothing. So his arc focuses a lot on learning how to actually utilise his skills, and by extension finding out what’s he’s good at in service of his team. To the point that in the current part of the manga, he’s a formidable force to be taken seriously by those previously stated elites

Tbf, he's smart, but he was "junior high kid thinking of becoming a salary man" smart. He's had to learn basically everything practical about Border and Triggers in less time than the readers/viewers at this point. It's just that most of the other team leaders have been gunning for their position for 2-4 years by the time he decided to join, and typically have enough skill to overcome their own shortcomings. And the main exceptions are a pair of lifelong soldiers from the neighbourhood.

One of my favorite parts of World Trigger is when Osamu finally asks Chika to actually use her maximum power he is still working with her own needs. When he finally asks her to nuke the mall he actively chooses the method that will be least likely to actually directly cause the "death" of opposing operators, and when it does accidentally "kill" one it does have a significant effect on her, and he immediately offers reassurance to mitigate that as best he can because he KNOWS his teammates and is actually competent at managing them both strategically and emotionally. We never see anyone do anything like that around Yang and her PTSD because it conveniently stays out of the way until the fight is over because the writers need it to do so.

and also at the same time the story recognices that he is being too soft and not letting Chika challenge her own trauma, giving her an easy escape so she doesnt need to go through the ordeal of overcoming it. I do agree. In the beginning Osamu is very much a beginner who is paired up with this extremely experienced, neighbour expert who despite his own weaknesses is a far superior tactician and power house, Osamu meanwhile was often just diving into dangerous situations without entirely understanding his own weaknesses or strength and even through the process of learning, is often merely the sacrificial peace in any given plan or can't go the distance. Yet he not only overcomes his own downfalls by forming a style that fits his circumstances, but gradually improves to monitor others to better use their talents and ultimately finally becomes the lynchpin of one of his plans, admitively Chica's own development in actually taking a killing shot played a pretty big role in that, something even he nor anyone else had expected. His journey is less about becoming a badass strategist, though he is certainly becoming that, but is more about him becoming a valuable member of society despite being extremely weak on paper. Compared to either of the neighbours he's still pretty green behind the ears, but given that they have both lived in an inhospitable landscape? Osamu is making good progress. His real strength now is knowing his weakness and is coming up with strategies that made best use of what he and others had, so that ultimately he didn't have to depend on Yuma or any other powerhouses bailing him out all the time, which wasn't the case early on. Potential spoilers (Can't remember where the anime ends.) Even Yuna in a sense is nerfed, because his real body is fatally wounded and is being contained in his Trion body, so his actual output might be much higher if he ever recovers. Though it's the main reason behind him not being able to age, as his body repersents the age of a small child when he was badly wounded. Pretty sure it was covered early on though, and I don't actually remember that clearly what he set out to do.

@@lordbiscuitthetossable5352 Kuga's injury and what his black trigger does is very much covered in the show, pretty early on if memory serves, though it was heavily implied that he at least believes that his real body is irrecoverable. Heck, if he outlined the plan prior, he wouldn’t even need to tell them when to go cuz they’re already know, so that’s no excuse either. World trigger is one of my favorite battle Shonen. Powers are actually used in creative ways, and those without have be and actually ARE creative and insightful in order to make up the difference. Osamu CANNOT push through. He doesn't have that option. He HAS to be smarter or he will simply lose the head on fight. He doesn't even have better skills either. Nearly every character DESTROYS Osamu in BOTH. He cannot take a 1v1 at any point, and he gets his ass kicked repeatedly because of it. He is actually acting like an underdog. The handful of others who have similar disadvantages recognize this and actively take him under their wing. That and the constant solo and team rank wars provide a very real method for how he would gain the experience and insight needed to develop his strategic skills. Making his teammates individually gifted in raw skill and raw power respectively but lacking that strategic insight is also a massive part of why this works, though one could argue that it would be better served for the strategist role to be filled by the operator rather than someone busy fighting. With that in mind I am hoping that if the story continues for much longer Tamakoma-2 will pick up a tech minded friend along the way and have them take over as the operator. The show has put remarkably little effort into developing their current operator, so that slot is relatively open. The resulting need to rely on the other members of the team is a key part of developing each and every member of that team both in furthering their strengths and learning from the other members to soften their weaknesses.
@KaiserShounen
@KaiserShounen 8 месяцев назад
I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment except for replacing the operator. I think what they have is fine and that there are enough character dynamics and team building to work with without needing to develop another member much. Totally not just cause I think her character is cute or anything lol
@grantharriman284
@grantharriman284 8 месяцев назад
@@KaiserShounen I am fine with her too. I don't think that replacing her is a particularly necessary move per se, just that it's the move I expect. I see significant differences in the level of detail of her development and how she fits compared to the rest of Tamakoma-2 and comparing their dynamic to other squads in the show. The other squads seem to view their operators as very much part of the squad and are usually all friends and peers of similar ages, though exceptions where squads are a pack of young talents being trained by their older veteran captain are also common. Compare this to Tamakoma-2 who basically got assigned their operator because she was there and available with her being somewhat older and taking a more mentoring role, that is a significant outlier compared to literally every other operator of every other squad we see. Additionally the show hasn't put very much effort/detail into characterizing her when compared to our core trio. This looks to me like the show is preparing or at least leaving the door open for a technically and/or strategically minded character who is not particularly suited/talented/equipped for combat to appear and join the crew as their operator later on. Likely taking some time and forming a bond with the min trio before ultimately taking over that role. The show could equally decide to put more time and effort into developing that kind of relationship and pull in their current operator, but if that was the case I would have expected that kind of pattern from the start.
@VertexPlaysMC
@VertexPlaysMC 7 месяцев назад
He held off the entire Katori squad for quite a while so he has at least some rizz. The main thing is the other characters in the show also progress, and they keep climbing the ranks, so it's hard to see his improvement. Still he hasn't gotten absolutely destroyed in the last two seasons, so he's probably at the point where he can win a 1v1 vs most lower b-ranks
@grantharriman284
@grantharriman284 7 месяцев назад
@@VertexPlaysMC The main thrust of my argument is that Osamu hasn't gotten STRONGER, he's gotten BETTER. He has almost exactly the same level of raw power and pretty close to the same set of tools as when he started, but his greater experience and ability to take decisive action makes him far more valuable as a teammate and far more troublesome as an opponent. Bottom B-Rank is intentionally soft competition in this show mainly there for get swept aside by actual threats or even be the squishy thing that needs to be protected at times. Osamu fits in down there at the start of the series but now they are not even a threat to him and that's kinda the point. He no longer looks, feels or acts like a bottom rank agent. He has earned his place on the upper end of the scale WITHOUT fundamentally changing who and what he is.

This video would be perfect... if not for two things missing : The fact that we actually see Osamu actually trying to improve himself, be it through training, pondering how to do it, asking and listening to advices etc... and that constantly during the show. Meanwhile we rarely see that on RWBY when it comes to Jaune... We see train a few times and... that's it ! No trying to improve himself, no pondering on strategies, no nothing. The second one is how people in the world acknowledge how good/dangerous of a tacticien Osamu is. Prime example being the Ninomiya squad actively putting a target on his back, not because he is weak on his own, but because of how dangerous he is the longer he stays alive. Meanwhile... Jaune is... rarely acknowledge by anyone. He is just shown as the leader and "strategist" and that's it... Also comparing the two is unfair... i mean come on... On one hand we have our god that is Osamu and on the other we have a puny human that is Jaune

To be fair I did mention that Osamu grew into the role naturally and through constant failures and setbacks whereas Jaune had very little of that. @KaiserShounen Personally I think we're comparing Apples to Oranges here. A better comparison is Jaune to Sooka. Since Jaune was supposed to be that in RWBY. Both had no real talents, both had a love arc so to speak, both started off as somewhat as Sholes, but both had potential to be something more. Starting with Sooka, he was left in charge by his father to protect the tribe, he has no bending abilities in contrast with his sister, and only really had good planning skills, a boomerang and was often the straight man in many situations while at times being a sarcastic smart-ass at others. Throughout the series, we see Sooka grow and mature, he is the planner, he is the idea guy, someone who is out of the main action but has out there ideas that work "Such as Airship Slice, disabling the drill, using the boomerang to defeat Sparky-Sparky Boom Man, and planned an escape, from an inescapable prison, twice" More so, he was a great character that clearly grew with the rest of the others. And while he had his "Butt of the joke" moments, he was important to the team. Now Jaune, despite my like of the character, is all over the place. For starters, he is meant to be a side character, apart from Team RWBY. Next, is that his introductions in season 1 aren't that good with his cringed flirting. Now while it could be explored better, Jaune got little screen time for it to develop. "Did he tell the others, do we see why he decided to do that, was he punished for it, nothing." Next came Season 2, where he essentially just flirted with Weiss and failed for the first half. Again, something the audience probably didn't want to watch. It was only in later episodes, such as the dance where he shows a better character development and moved on from the failed romance with Weiss and into the failed romance with Pyrrha. His tactics, while similar to Sooka's, aren't as respected as such. While hitting it harder, is a meme by this point, it made sense, but he explained it poorly. Imagine the Battle where he sees it lose an arm and use a nearby tree to replace it's body. Seeing this, Jaune could've told Ruby to keep up the pressure and aim for the limbs, meanwhile have Nora destroy every nearby tree, rock and anything around them it could use to replace it's missing limbs. It would then try to replace an arm, only for it to not find anything fast enough, then with Nora rejoining the Battle, they take down the legs, the other arm, and while the Geist is vulnerable, Nora smashes it's torso and kills it instantly, not a much better outcome, but a better tactic in a sense. Which brings us to the fact, Jaune's not a tactic anymore. His writing is all over the place. Is he a main character or side character, is he a fighter, a tactician, the white mage, or something else. Is he the straight man, the comic releif, the Hero's Journey character, just what is Jaune's character now? Now, with all of that being said, I think the real issues aren't necessarily Jaune's character, but rather he is becoming other characters as a result of RUBY'S writing. Simplicity is a good thing to have, and why Sooka is successful. He doesn't have some horrible backstory like Aang or Zuko, or Bending like the benders, or some sort of overly dramatic scenes. He is Simplic that grows throughout the series and matures. Jaune however, he's too over the place. The Simplicity he had is gone and now he's sadly just a charactiture of what he was supposed to be, something that isn't just Jaune, but nearly all the characters in RWBY now.

Also Jaune just arbitrarily has “a lot of aura”, it would be nice if while he didn’t have a semblance he developed as a fighter and utilized the fact he’s basically a tank but he doesn’t. He just “improves” after he trains with Pyrrha but we see the “improvement” in Volume 2 and he does nothing but flail at an Ursa until it awkwardly falls over and yet we’re meant to look at this as a “go Jaune!” type moment.

Yeah the "lot of aura" thing is a incredibly contentious when the show doesn't even bother to show how Aura is measured besides the video game health bar on scrolls, which is contradictory as the bars show them as equal when Jaunes should be higher than most if not everyone. Frankly the only reason they did the lots aura thing, is in the same vein of why Aura is a thing in the first place. "How can Ruby swing a huge-ass scythe at guy and not kill him? or "how can we have our characters get hit without animated any battle damage exept when the plot demands it? Lets just say aura works like a forcefield until it breaks (nevermind the fact we don't have any visual cues of aura until volume 7). How can we make Jaune look weak and inexpierenced and not die in the process? He'll have a lot of aura and thus be able to tank more hits than most and we can use it for comedic slapstic." a lot of the issues can be summed up by writers using reverse cause and effect, where the writers already determine an effect they want than figure out the cause. Like they chose not to have Weiss and Qrow go to atlas is because they already wanted a conflict that leads to an over the top fight for the Finale and remove Adam from the eqaution.

Nice to see a video talking about World Trigger, it sadly doesn't get as much attention as it should. Another thing about Osamu's development is that he's not a naturally gifted strategist. It's a role he fell into as "the only option" for him. And even after he realises his role is as a support+strategist he still has to learn how to do that. Osamu is far from the best strategist at Boarder and he is constantly learning from his mistakes. WT shows that strategy is a skill that's learned + the amount of research he constantly has to do before each match. Personally I think Osamu's one natural talent is his "political powers", his ability to sway people to his side/create allies. This is based on the fact that he actually manages to befriend neighbours without too much trouble, got the media to view him favorably and the example you showed of him managing to convince the higher ups to put *censured* on his squad. While he's using a strategic mindset for this it is a bit different from tactics used in battle. Osamu is pretty good at reading people and is able to use it to get people to trust him/willing to negotiate with him and I feel this will be a incredible valuable when they finally get to interact with other political groups.

The easy way to write a strategic character it to empathize with your characters as a writer, and then give the strategic character that same amount of empathy. Especially in a world filled with super powered beings, people are gonna be wary of being overconfident in their abilities, even to the point of underestimating them. People are natural skeptics as a survival mechanism, and hyper aware of their weaknesses, and thus look to compensate them in a way. Give the smart character the ability to empathize with their opponent and judge their actions to predict future ones accordingly. This also gives the "genius" character natural roadblocks, as people with increasingly different worldviews are gonna behave differently so the challenge is getting into the head of each new opponent, and even understanding them, including heinous villains, which could prove to make moral dilemmas arise.

Weiss convinces Cordelia to allow everyone to go. Even just getting her team across would be helpful, and the more likely solution. 2. What I recall from the Geist fight is that it had a central core that was its weak point. "Hit it harder!" just sounds stupid.

Jaune's character isn't just supposed to be the underdog, he's supposed to be someone who bluffed his way into a situation he has no right being in and now has to live up to the responsibility he fell into. Him coming in with outdated equipment, no training, not even understanding the power system of the story, and just being in completely over his head in a world he was given no preparation for is what the story was trying for, at least in the beginning. A story of a faker having to become the thing he pretended to be. But the real thing is that his original story didn't seem to be about being a strategist but a leader. While a leader might be a strategist, and a strategist a leader, they don't have to be the same at all. Kamina and Simon are leaders, but they don't typically have a strategy beyond just hit it harder. But that works because they're role as a leader is to inspire people following them to put forth their best effort. A strategist on the other hand has the role to tell people how to best use their effort. Jaune is based off of Joan of Arc, who is famous for leading the French army against the English. She's not famous for being a brilliant tactician. And from all I saw up to season 2, his arc was becoming a leader who would encourage his team, leading the charge. His conversation with Ruby was about how he can't afford to be a failure as he's a leader, it's not just about him. Him getting changed into a strategist later on is a deviation from where his character was initially designed to go, so that's part of the reason his story went wrong.

Re-watching this video, and it's kinda funny. Jaune probably got more screen time and focus compared to even the main four leads, but none of that had much common sense and provided little proper development. At most, he's shown to train under Pyrrha to unlock his Semblance and maybe hold his own against an Ursa during Vol 2's finale. Aside from that? Not much, which makes it more confusing as to how he could even survive the initiation, let alone become team leader. That's not even including the other stuff like him crying about Pyrrha's death post-Vol 3 again and again (even though it's questionable if he really accepted Pyrrha's feelings). There is also a WHOLE LOT of missing information. I get that RWBY's episodes started out short but we don't know much about Jaune's family (outside of Jaune's sisters messing with him), or if they even missed him and knew, or the impact Jaune's lineage had on him (especially since his great-grandfather fought in the Great War, which should've made him more attentive in history class), etc. Unlike Osamu, whose backstory was clear from the start. Pretty much, Jaune not only lacked any arc (pun intended) but the foundation to show how he would become a proper leader. Also, I REALLY need to get back into World Trigger.
@Number1Rival
@Number1Rival 8 месяцев назад
Jaune's set up in Volume 1 and 2 is like watching a multi head dragon twist its necks into a knot. It's like the wroters want him to be a natural born tactician/leader with the "Run and Live" strategy that everyone agrees with during initiation, but the show also wants him to not know about anything related to Huntsman, but then it also wants him to somehow have gotten into Beacon with forged papers and somehow he knew how to get those papers, but somehow he's a rather terrible student in both combat and in normal classes, and is potrayed as a dumb goof with a heart of gold. The only thing Jaune has going for him is that apparently he's a fast learner, but practically everyone on Team JNPR and RWBY are fast learners. Also that huge amount of Aura and the healing/Aura boost he can do. But he could've died before even getting the chance to have his Aura unlocked had Pyrrha not possessed the mystical force of the missile guidance system.
@krraika1847
@krraika1847 8 месяцев назад
@@Number1Rival Pretty much yeah. The only reason why Jaune survived the initiation was because of Pyrrha (his "landing strategy" would've broken his body, if not killed him, had Pyrrha not intervened). I've heard others complain that Jaune got away with so much since he's more or less Miles' self-insert. I'd partially agree why, even if I don't think being a self-insert by itself would necessarily mean it has to be bad (I mean it can, but it depends on the writing). Honestly, reading your bit about Jaune not being so good makes me think back to Power Rangers. If whatever installment was well-told, the red ranger of the group would show proper leadership skills, whether it'd be up front or hinted at and developed over time. 2002's Wild Force stick out to me since its red ranger recently joined the group yet grew into a leader throughout the series. Even in Kamen Rider (aka the big sibling to Power Ranger's original source material) has this. In the 2002 series Kamen Rider Agito, you had a small team of police officers managing a special power suit to help fight the monsters of that series. Leading that team was a small yet incredibly resilient genius who had the admiration and respect of her men, since she could deal with politics within the police force while also come up with new formulas and whatnot to help win whatever fight. And like JNPR, they were part of the main cast but not the main focus. Unlike JNPR, they were done better.

Despite me liking Jaune, his character is all over the place. In all honesty, Jaune has been written much better in fanfiction. He could be an issekai character that explains how little he knows about what people consider basic knowledge. Having to learn to adapt to survive and try to fulfill his sidden role into leadership. He could have been the main character, emphasizing his growth from being someone with little skills but potential, to seeing him grow throughout the series as a whole. Maybe fighting Torchwock, someone who is both a capable fighter, not afraid of dirty tactics, and is a tactician, and Jaune learns to not only improve his abilities after several loses but wins by tricking Torchwick at his own game, such as using a gun or ending their battle in a draw. (Which I'm actually working on for a bet I made with a friend) I will say that, Jaune's best moments are actually his relationships with others, showing how they interact woth one another. His interactions with Ruby, Neptune, Pyrrha and the rest of his team outsode of fighting is actually great.

Super late here. But the big issue with early RWBY was that Monty Oum was not terribly involved with the story portion. Coming from his Dead Fantasy online series which focused on just combat and stylish fights, Monty basically wanted to work on the fight scenes of RWBY where another team would basically make a story to connect these fight scenes. This caused issues because the story guys were bad at writing a story, so Jaune was made into a complete moron as a way to provide a moron that lore and mechanics had to be explained to. Hbomberguy had a great video on this, where Jaune and Neptune were basically super creepy self inserts of the two story writers who were also voicing the characters.

I don't have anything of substance to add to this video since this is well done. The only thing if someone can help tell me if it's true is that Jeanne is one of Rooster Teeth upper management self insert or as soon as Monty passed (Rest in Peace you beautiful soul) took him as a self insert cause it's that true then he's a strategies by way of entitlement. Also I've read the manga never watched the anime. Hope the mangaka health is well so that we can continue to have more chapters of the strategy game their playing for plot reasons.

17:40 Think Jaune going into weapon designing could've been really interesting given that, compared to literally most of the other weapons we see in the show, his weapon is by far the simplest. I think he upgrades it in Chapter 4 from the standard sword and shield to making his weapon a bigger sword by fusing it with his shield occasionally. Which can only be as useful as one might expect. Think later he got another upgrade, but honestly I can't really recall. But given that most of the other weapons in Rwby have a sort of Long Ranged aspect to them (on his own team, Ren has a sub machine gun for suppressing fire, Pierra before she became dust had a rifle for long ranged shots, and Nora had the grenade launcher to make it everyone's problem. Thats not to say every weapon NEEDs a gun aspect, i think there are some crossbow people.) Given the fact that the best long ranged option he'd have is a aura slash for him to send out and probably be about as effective as his strategies, he would really benefit from looking between all the weapons his allies have and thinking down what he can do to improve his own weapon. But alas, its never meant to be. Also shout out to the fact that dissing on RWBY got ya more views lel.

With the release and completion of Ahsoka recently, I do wonder how much of you can say about Jaune as a general mid strategist could also be applied to Grand Admiral Thrawn. Not seen the show yet, but from what I understand he's supposed to be another one of those heavily-strategy oriented characters, but executed really poorly.

@@thomasraines1396 It has been years since I've read the Thrawn Trilogy and Hand of Thrawn duology, but I'd agree. Even in Rebels, he seemed to have a hint of the genius he had in the books (he did get defeated by space whales in Rebels, though). With Jaune, it might be more appropriate to compare him more to other leaders like Robin from Teen Titans or Leonardo from TMNT 2012. In those cases, the characters are not so much powerful than their teammates (Robin literally having no powers and Leo first seen losing his match with Raphael) but they exhibit traits where they not only plan ahead but think while they're fighting too. Robin was a leader from the get-go but struggled with his obsession of fighting Slade over time, which required help from his friends, while Leo started out struggling but worked his way to become a someone who could lead and look out for his team. And Jaune is... well, he's Jaune (even Nora said so in Vol 3!).

@@thomasraines1396 Yeah, Teen Titans is good. 2012 TMNT in fun but it has its problems, e.g. the shipping (which REALLY hampers otherwise potentially great characters like April, Donnie, and Casey), and the drawn out arcs during season 3 and 4, anything after season 4's finale, etc. Then again, I'm biased towards TMNT 2003 (first 4 seasons though, since s5 and afterward go off the rails).

I feel like not mentioning his role in vol 9 is a detriment to the comparison of Jaunes previous volume selves. Aged Jaune is supposed to be the culmination of his character to a degree, he has more world experience than the girls and yet is a worst fighter who outside of knowing more about The Ever After had zero commanding presence outside of arguing with them to the point of absurdism. He was no strategist, which is always been an argument myself and many in the fandom have made for years, he never was one to begin with. He talked once while not having a weapon in vol 4 and everyone labeled him a strategist since then despite him failing to be strategic in vol 4, his team fell apart. Didn't do anything in vol 5, didn't assist with Ruby's plan of infiltration of Atlas in volume 6. Don't remember him having any pivotal role in 7 and am unsure what he did in vol 8 as I didn't bother to watch it so maybe he did something there? Also yeah am in complete agreement that instead of the needlessly complicated and ultimately dropped plotline of Jaunes faked Transcripts he could have been accepted for no more than the simple reason that Remnant needs bodies to fight the Grimm. Simple as. Hell it would have been a good subversion to have Jaune confront Ozpin as to why he would allow such a failure like him in with Jaune going on about some untapped power he must have only for Oz to bluntly say "I allowed you to join my school because otherwise you would just had lived to be a victim of the Grimm, in constant fear of your time to die. You were given the opportunity and tools necessary here to change that to defend yourself and others. Its all I would wish for anyone in this world."

I agree that there is a lot of gleam over with Jaunes development in v9, but again, the main focus of the video is between Jaune and Osamu. Osamu has yet to have a similar route of development in that area (mostly due to the authors health) so it be far from useful to bring it up and pad the video. Hope you understand.

Great point bringing up the Chika having to go alone vs Weiss having to go alone routes; it’s a great example of how differently these two stories handle the larger power structures their characters should need to navigate. Border may sometimes be antagonistic, but ultimately the team has to maneuver within that system responsibly and maturely. They don’t just get to say “screw the rules” like the RWBY kids.

I think the worst part about Jaune, its that he never gives the vibe of a strategist aside that fight against the scorpion grimm in VOLUME 1, he always gave more of a tank vibe, heck, I even remember someone telling him 'You have great aura reserves', his semblance in V3 literally hurts Cardin's hand and V4's just confirmes he can boost aura. He is,in every sense of the word, a Paladin which focus is on being a TANK He never has made a winning strategy nor plan, he still is NOT a good fighter, his weapon is still mediocre and even got WORSE somehow, and we never even see him defeat a SINGLE monster in V9. He grabbed team RWBY and yeet out, then when he fought Neo, someone he should absolutely HATES, still got as.s kicked, to let Ruby shine. Again. Jaune is limited to be a cellphone charger, his only job is to boost someone else's power and call it a day.

Not wanting to be a quibbly biscuit but Osamu has the lowest trion levels in Border B class, not necessarily border or the overall world. He is essentially just above the cutoff - a recruit whose recruiter pretended not to see the kicks on the pullup test. He also improves his trion. Kitora AI similarly started out toward the bottom of Border's trion levels but has since improved to average. Ish.

In my opinion, it would have been peak to see him being a strategist (or at least trying to) early on...AND, without him saying his plans out loud. Rwby is a show about fights with awesome choreographies right ? Then use it to show Jaune trying strategies, instead of saying them out loud. A bit like that Sukuna and Mahoraga fight in JJK, where you can see both fighters using different strategies without monologuing it out loud. SHOW DON'T TELL, RWBY.

Jaune is not a strategist or a tactician, he's just a quick thinker. He's a TANK. And a predominantly support fighter. He holds, Ren disables, and Nora and Pyrrha before her death are the executors. However, I won't bother continuing because you've already demonstrated your lack of honesty or understanding of Jaune and RWBY. Why would he have been sent to Combat School when he DIRECTLY STATES that he was kept out of it all BY HIS PARENTS, who didn't want him involved? Further, he obviously knows the gist of what a Hunter does since he WANTS TO BE ONE and GOES TO PLACE TO BE ONE - however, ge likely lacks the detailed knowledge because HIS PARENTS DID NOT WANT THEIR KIDS TO BECOME HUNTERS. It's like... Imagine an Amish kid. He knows the gist of what a marksman is, but if you laid out bullets and asked him to sort out the FMJ from the hollow points he'd look at you like you grew a third eye. Because his family DIRECTLY did not want him to know about advanced tech so, while he grasps the gist, he wouldn't know any of the details EVEN THOUGH guns in America are super common, and 'full metal jacket' is a known term. The Amish kid's family sheltered him from knowing about the bullet the same way that Jaune's sheltered him from knowing about Aura, Semblances and the like - because they didn't want him to go out and do the thing. Jaune likely got fake transcripts from some back alley asshole, and Ozpin let him in for reasons of his own. Likely something to do with V9 but OH WAIT we don't want to think about that. If I were to make this sort of categorical misrepresentation of a character I would be too embarassed to even be online lmao. But dishonesty seems to be fine by you
