Java ExecutorService Using Virtual Threads

With the addition of Virtual Threads to Java, a special Java ExecutorService implementation was also added which executes every single task submitted to it using a separate virtual thread. In this video I show how to create and use a Java ExecutorService using virtual threads internally.

Thank you - and you are welcome :-) I agree! Java is still a great language, and it keeps getting better and better. There are of course other nice languages too, but Java is still good!

Well, Java itself is NOT a great language with its verbosity and mutable-state-by-default and place-oriented-programming approach, but the JVM & the JDK are the really great technologies! Clojure demonstrates quite well (for the past 15 years) how much better can both the programming experience and the programs themselves be, compared to Java or even Kotlin, on top of the very same JVM. While a lot of annoyances has been addressed in Java 21+, the fundamental problems are still there and people will keep writing code the old ways, because of the amount of old examples... :(

The main take-away for me was the reminder that even virtual threads don't have a turn-key solution for communicating the result of their Runnables as data, back to their submitting thread.

Thanks you @Jakob for such a wonderful video. Can you please give dart language a try. I personally feel dart is what java should have been. Can you please give it a try.

Hi Sanath, thank you for your kind words! :-) ... Regarding Dart - it is not currently of my list of languages to play with - as I have limited time available. I am more into languages such as Rust or D, or the other languages I work with in my day job, such as JavaScript, TypeScript and Python :-)
