I'm jealous. I can't get the moss to grow at all. Tried many different things with different batches of Java and Christmas. The largest I got was smaller than a golf ball after 3 months. All my other plants thrive and have to be cut constantly.
@@kenaqua I think it is because I had my tank overstocked and I tied and grew them on decorations so they were closer to the light. The MC that I had in the gravel did not do well. It is funny because Java needs basically only light, can even be a standard LED bulb, and they just never worked for me. They just never seem to recover after the Cryptmelt, or whatever it is called when plants are grown out of water and then put in the aquarium.
You could dip the java and driftwood in Seachem Excel for a couple of minutes and it’s kill the black algae. Also, check your phosphate levels - Phosguard will drop those levels and that causes algae to dye as well. And finally, although I haven’t tried it with black algae, barley straw extract gets rid of algae :)
