This was srinath at peak , unfortunately in 1997 he got shoulder rotator cuff injury and then his pace reduced , otherwise he could have been in all time greats of fast bowler list
Yes. I am fortunate to wacth him practicing in my hometown (Mysuru) during 1990. I feel bad that due to bad fielding of few team members he lost 30 more Wickets. There is a Circle in his name in my hometown. It is in JLB Road, Mysuru.
Srinath toiled hard on lifeless Indian pitches and had worked up good pace to trouble batsmen. He was probably the best underrated bowler against left hand batsmen. Workhorse after Kapil Dev.
I agree....coz he bowled with zero help from others and some great spell on placid tracks This one....calcutta 99 v pak Calcutta 98 v aus Kanpur 99 v nz Eng 2001
Azharuddin was amazing in tactics.. But Sachin Tendulkar was the captain for this series & one more year.. Sachin was appointed as a captain after England Tour 96..
@@shankarnarayanan1732 azhar was magnificient fielder in every position. I have seen him fielding from 1985to 1991 long on long off covers shortleg midwicket every where he was unbelievably magnificient. After becoming captain he started fielding in slips mainly where he was superb too.
@@hrushikeshsawant8934 Azhar was a master tactitian and his understanding of each player was superb. . His weakness was communication skills outside the cricket field particular to press and he was always misunderstood in media.
Unfortunately for this legend and highly talented bowler doesn't have the support from the other end like waqar and shoaib for Wasim... Pollock for Donald, brettlee and Gillespie for mcgrath, Walsh and Ambrose... Just when zaheer and nehra arrived he was at the end of his career... Really unfortunate
He never needed any offcutter ( ie the incutter) what you said. His bowling action naturally provides sharp inswing deliveries. But he used to bowl leg cutters(looks like out swing)
He was the only attacking bowler india had.Prasad and Kumble were also good but they didn't use to attack the batsmen especially South Africans in the 90s till early 2000s
What I noticed was how plumb decisions were called by the southafrican commentators as not the greatest, those were days when southafrican cricket were dominated by racist past.
Yes, there was a fat commentator whose name I cannot recollect, who was particularly negative in his comments about our umpires while he was silent about the same with his country's umpires' decisions when we toured there next, especially a catch which Jonty Rhodes claimed which was highlighted because the ball had touched the ground. While he was silent his pals at best described it as "unfortunate". But can't blame them because our team perhaps deserved it in those days because we were like mice when playing abroad. We even struggled against Zimbabwe in the 1990s & when we did win a test in SA it was in 2006, while Australia, Pakistan, England & even NZ had wins under their belt by then. Thank God that times have changed. People are a little more careful of what they speak now lest they get penalized or trolled and some of those idiots perhaps are no more now!
Srinath split the total wickets almost 1/2 - 1/2 with the umpire Bansal was India's answer to Steve Bucknor. Umpire Bansal took more wickets (9) with Srinath closely following at 8 I guess.
