Hey Everyone, I just wanted to come on this video and explain a few things. First off, looking back at this video I'm not very proud of how I explained the block here. There are a few good take aways like keeping your block foot out to the side, and keeping your back shoulder, knee, and foot stacked at BFC but in terms of the "dropping into the block effect" I missed the ball on that. I did a lot of research into baseball mechanics this past summer and realized that some are applicable to javelin and some are not. The back foot action in both do get internally rotated and turned over before the block leg hits but this dropping action is a lot easier to achieve off a mound, throwing downhill. rather than running at full speed and throwing off a level runway at an upward angle. Its just a bit different and I thought I was on to something with this explanation but its not 100% accurate. I have made a new video of me explaining the block which I have now learned which I will link here and in the description but basically moral of the story is to keep your energy LINEAR going into the block. not a dropping motion. The back hip will rotate about 85% of the way through before the block and about 15% through after the block and elite level throwers will have their back foot turn over before the block foot hits. I am choosing to leave this video up as a testament to document my coaching style and philosophy, I'm never afraid of new opinions and learning more. Its a journey and youtube is my journal.
