@@coachhalley And how! I’m 67 now. I still throw javelin and disc for recreation. 600 g javelin. 1 kg disus. I can’t even imagine how I picked up a 2 kg disc in my college days. What does speak of the one and a half kilo high school disc. That is a wrist killer for me now! So I throw the lighter weights and just have some fun! These bodies are not eternal.

The last set of throws were over 200 feet. Maybe 210-215ft. Keep in mind they were 400gram javelins. I don’t like to beat myself up with the 800g javelins during demonstration throws. Hopefully I’ll get a video on throwing through the point soon. I have to recruit a camera person first…

Thanks brotha How can you prevent your shoulder from getting sore
@coachhalley
@coachhalley 7 месяцев назад
Great question! There are a lot of things to help a shoulder from getting sore. Pace yourself. Start off your throwing season gradually monitoring the volume and intensity. Do a proper cooldown and maintenance like ice/heat/stretching/exercise/therapy/massage/rest/etc. For throwing form, be efficient, use your lower body to generate initial force, use a big range of motion, throw relaxed and pay attention to how each throw feels so you can make appropriate adjustments.

Hey coach, asking something from biomechanics. I have noticed that main power comes from shoulder horizontal adduction ( chest stretch ) is this true ... If yes how much degree of adduction should an athelete perform. Any drill to improve that.
@coachhalley
@coachhalley 2 года назад
I’m not sure this is the place to address biomechanics questions as they can get a bit deep. In general I want to simplify the process for athletes and most coaches. The elastic properties of the muscles and connective tissue is super important but the throw uses the whole body in a sequence. The stretch of the chest is a big factor but it can depend on the thrower. I was never a big and muscular person so I relied on my speed and hips to power my throw. I’m curious what others would say on this topic. Anyone?

What is the difference between a practice and competition javelin?
@coachhalley
@coachhalley 6 месяцев назад
A competition javelin can be a practice javelin but generally a practice javelin is not a competition javelin. Competition javelins are higher quality, more finely tuned and more expensive. Some Thrower’s/coaches use older competition javelins for practice once they get to a certain condition. Depending on your throwing capabilities, you may want to save the nicer more expensive, higher quality, stiffer javelins for competition and train with the less expensive, beat up, or softer javelins. Hope that helps!

My elbow hurts when I throw. What an I’m doing worng?
@coachhalley
@coachhalley 6 месяцев назад
Generally elbow issues are related to contracting your muscles to throw hard and not being loose. Also an elbow that’s at 90 degrees can be the issue. Also, the arm and elbow being too low behind the shoulders. It could be a number of things. Only guessing here since I have not seen you throw. Here’s a video about another athlete: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MO_Z-Pcq6HE.htmlfeature=shared

Does Range of javelin really matter for distance?
@coachhalley
@coachhalley 10 месяцев назад
I think it does more at higher levels. A 60m javelin thrower should be able to throw a 50 meter javelin farther than the rating but it’s flight and feel is significantly different than the same 60m thrower throwing an 80m javelin. To throw an 80m + rated javelin your form better be pretty efficient or your body will take a beating. One thing to consider in rating is if it will be used for competition or practice. A flexible javelin can be forgiving on a missed throw but it can also mess with your form if you get distracted by a javelin flapping through the air on every throw. I’m curious what other folks think.

just got asked to do javelin in a competition and i am definitely not the best at it, i have nothing to practice with throwing wise so im hoping that by practicing this sequence i can execute it decently on the day when it comes to actually throwing it. this may seem a stupid question but what would the proper grip be and when throwing it do you flick your wrist or anything? im desperate for answers to clear up these questions as im too nervous to ask anyone else 😂

@coachhalley
@coachhalley Год назад
Unfortunately our body doesn't put up with multiple days of throwing if your are pushing your limits. I recommend pacing yourself, paying attention to your body and spend time recovering. If you are training, alternate your activities, you don't need to throw every day to get better. Work on specific skills on alternating days or work on light intensity with higher volume. There are many ways to throw far besides throwing. Sleep, nutrition and moderation are your friend! Hopefully that helps! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
