The Javelin and the NLAW are two of the hottest anti tank systems around right now. At least the media seems to be pitting them one against the other.
Most of the articles written so far have been about two anti-tank systems. So… Our video tries to answer how do they compare? Are they even competitors? Which one is better? And just how suitable are they for the job at hand?

If Modern Greece acquired Greek Fire as a military weapon and used it in modern naval operations. Condition, it would get in modern times, in Greece they would discover its chemically original formula, by conducting archaeological excavations. And go to War, to regain control of Cyprus. And in many other current NATO Wars and Operations. Also in some more historical Wars of hatred. Of course, this would become a Greek secret. Again after a very long time! It would become a Greek secret. And their Nation, would probably, be one of the strongest in Naval Warfare. Thoroughly improving it to modern standards. How would this affect the operation of war at sea? Provided, it would be used in a possible War. As much as possible! How many massive benefits would it bring militarily and collectively? How would this Ancient Super Weapon affect Modern Warfare? Who would dominate the battlefield? How can it be technically used in today's battlefield? This weapon is super powerful, it cannot be denied by anyone. It would be impressive to see it on the battlefield. I would not be surprised, if this super-weapon would bring huge benefits on the battlefield. Not at all would not be! Not at all! The most important thing is said!

They are both amazingly well suited to perform their different rolls; Javelin for ranged scenarios, where being able to destroy MBT's from kilometres away is required. Nlaw for tight urban scenarios. where being able to fire from the concealment of a building is required. I'm sure the fighters in Ukraine are grateful for both systems.

TLDR: Javelin is the king of handheld anti-tank missiles, however they're costly, time consuming to deploy and less effective in cities. NLAW covers these weaknesses with it's strengths of being in exchange for being marginally less effective and less capable in rural environments - but both still too costly to completely replace the AT-4 with regards to destroying defensive structures or support vehicles. They're the holy trinity of forcing your enemy to walk.

@@farzana6676 'AT-4 with regards to destroying defensive structures or support vehicles' Where in that line did I imply using it against tanks? Also, RPG-7 will struggle against tanks too; back in the Iraq war a Challenger 2 took 70 of the fuckers and still returned to service later with it's crew alive and well. However, a Javelin or NLAW would've taken it out in a single shot, because that's what happens when you use the right tool for the job.

Javelin is meant to give dismounted infantry an ability to stave off tanks from well sited positions, NLAW is meant to keep infantry fighting vehicles, and accompanying tanks, from close assault. If you can force the mech assault to dismount beyond the last 100 metres, you can kill them with defensive arty / mortar fires and MGs while they struggle to close with the defenders. Different tools for different roles, and meant to be used together. In urban fighting, you use Javelin on the perimeter, NLAW in the interior. Its a great pairing, but always a pairing unless you are tank hunting, in which case, take the right tool for the ambush site. Another great job Blinkov. o7

@MrJdsenior
@MrJdsenior 2 года назад
Commercial drones should be dead easy to defend against, just spoof their GPS and knock them out of the air before they get close, but it's pretty obvious that standard tanks, guns, etc don't have that capability, YET. I can guarantee they will have soon, though, at least the more expensive stuff, but in any case soldiers are not really expendable either, not if you want to stay strong, and for the even more obvious reasons. It's out there, and just jamming, as I understand it, and other methods. They are just not in large scale general use yet. Another really simple mode I saw for this function is a very fast and agile drone that just disables incoming drones by dropping a graphite net over the target. blades stop, or are damaged, no more drone. That way the cost bang/buck is more commensurate. Using a very expensive missile is NOT. And the ones you mentioned are so cheap and readily producible that I have seen them used as anti personnel, etc. Sometimes simple stupid, cheap, and readily available is just the ticket. :-)

I was a Javelin system operator in the U.S. Army it's a pretty simple 2 week course. Not a huge amount of training really required to use it well, the army likes to repeat information repeatedly day after day but probably after a full day of doing the training to understand the CLU and you could use the javelin well. They are heavy AF. Now this is the U.S. army so the prices they gave us were much lower and it was in 2010. The CLU was expensive like 175k but the missles themselves were only 70k a peice. If we are selling them for 218k a pop to allies what a mark up even after adjusting for inflation.

It would be very interesting to see statistics on how many of the Russian tanks and vehicles destroyed in the war were taken out by each weapon, NLAW, Javelin, Stugna, Panzerfaust and others. Of course, no such statistics exist, but perhaps some day there will be reasonable accurate estimates based on Ukranian accounts. There is a lot of attention in the press and online for NLAW and Javelin, but I have the feeling that more basic weapons like RPGs have actually destroyed the most armour.

The US actually operates five anti-tank weapons, AT4, Carl Gustav, M72 LAW, TOW, and Javelin (although only TOW and Javelin have sufficient penetration against modern MBTs). It's good to have a mixture of both short and long-ranged systems to cover as many types of environments as possible. Ukraine has a mix of plains and urban area, so both NLAW and Javelin can leverage its strength. And the obvious fact that any relatively modern anti-tank weapons are better than none, lighter systems like AT4 or LAW can still penetrate rear and top armor, and in the urban warfare, you'll get a lot of opportunity to attack weak spots.

@MrJdsenior
@MrJdsenior 2 года назад
Me too. It wouldn't be that difficult to arm and thicken those top covers, as well, and have assisted opening, but just one more thing to go bad or not function after a survivable hit, if you want/need to get out quickly. I know earlier weapons like Copperhead targeted the base of the turret, and dumb weapons are less likely to hit from the top, except maybe in high rise city locations. If you heavily arm the entire tank they become much heavier, requiring larger motors, heavier stronger track systems and turret driving and support systems, all of it cascades, and obviously their fuel range becomes greatly diminished. Design is always trade offs and compromises off one requirement against another, functionality, or for practicality, producibility, logistical considerations, etc. It is virtually 'we'd like to do everything we want' and you get it. Taking it to the absurd, it is hard (well nigh impossible) to make one vehicle to accomplish the functions of a helicopter and a submarine. Impossible at any real scale, actually.
