This video is about the famous Grindelwald First Cliff Walk in Switzerland. During the day, this place is crowded with tourists who all want to take their photo on the First Cliff Walk.
If you want something a little quieter, you can spend the night up here like my good friend Jaroslav and I did.
Jaroslav booked me for a photo tour. We've been planning this trip for a while but the weather always has to play along. And so we fixed this date and hoped for good weather.
Please have a look at Jaroslav's RU-vid channel. He makes breathtaking time-lapse recordings and invests an incredible amount of time in the post-production so that it really looks perfect! I wouldn't have the patience or time for it but the results speak for themselves!
When we drove up from Grindelwald to Grindelwald First, the hotel was almost empty. Only one traveller was still scheduled for dinner. As we went for a walk with Rasta before dinner, we noticed these two girls walking from Bachalpsee towards Grindelwald First. Although hiking is probably the wrong term - they were more sliding and falling than anything else.
As the last gondola had already left Grindelwald First, I approached the girls and asked them what they wanted to do next.
They wanted to hike down to Grindelwald, they said. I advised them against it because their shoes and clothes were not equipped for the cold and ice. I also pointed out to them that there were still rooms available in the hotel and that I would recommend this option to them.
The girls agreed and stayed in the hotel overnight.
At dinner we all sat together, the lone traveller was an engineer and musician from Pakistan and the girls were from the USA. Then there was Jaroslav from the Czech Republic, my partner and of course Rasta.
It was a varied group and although we were all travelling separately, we came together as a group up here at 2000 metres. It was a lovely evening and we soon went to bed.
Jaroslav and I actually wanted to get up at 3.30am, but unfortunately the weather wasn't very promising. In the morning at 05.00 there was still something to see. The moon shone diffusely from behind the clouds and each of us did our thing.
The girls didn't have any warm jackets for the cold morning, so they got their duvets out of the room without further ado, which of course pleased us as photographers :))
After breakfast we went down again relatively quickly because a storm was on the cards. You always have to reckon with such events when you book a room on a mountain. In such a case you have to look for other accommodation.
It was a great trip with lots of nice encounters.
