Both of these women are just outta sight in the characters they play..but that character Ernestine I tell you something I LOVE HER. she has this way to read a persons soul in the show, she is strong and unbelievably witty she's like 10 steps ahead, I love that about her..Gosh this show keeps me on edge, I am rooting for them all the way to the north...I also notice that it creates things inside of me things that I have also felt will discuss at a later time
ok - I originally said I wasn't going to watch the show. I just get so emotional when I watch these types of shows. So yesterday, I was at home bored and just happened to come across WGN on demand and LET ME TELL YOU!!!! I was hooked..... from 5pm until the last episode :-) I could not stop watching! Can't wait til this Wednesday!!!!Great job to ALL the cast members!
All of this ignoring and/or avoiding the racism/slavery aspects of our history in recent years is kind of idiotic IMO. To make any kind of progress, we can't forget or ignore part of where we came from.
This series is indeed very different from most slave stories I've seen. The slave characters are portrayed in a new perspective. I think slaves have always been depicted as victims. This alien planted landed on our people and it was a huge, impossible Goliath. This story introduces us to characters of strength and power, acumen and innovation. Personally, not since Kunta Kinte of Roots have I seen this kind of fortitude, self-awareness, and self-inspiration in slave characters, even as developed by black creators. It’s definitely intriguing, absorbing and enlightening.
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl is one of the most difficult, yet phenomenal books I have ever read. I'd consider it and books of its kind to be the precursor for Underground. Its one of those reads that you have to process before moving on to the next chapter; at times, even the next page.
IMPRESSIVE series - thrilling story, fantastic writing & music and well rounded, flawed and compelling characters. #topnotch Have to say badass 'Miss Ernestine' is my fav tho.
