It's always interesting to see Jay Bilas on shows like the Dan Patrick Show! His insights into basketball, coupled with his articulate and thoughtful analysis, really add depth to any conversation. Whether you're a die-hard fan or just casually interested, there's always something to learn or a new perspective to consider. It's great that you're keeping up with interviews like these; they can really enrich your understanding and appreciation of the game. What did you think about the interview? Any standout moments or takeaways for you?
Always a pleasure to learn from these two. No jumping up and down, just two pros being pros. It seems to me all these GOAT conversations are from fans who just want to hear themselves talk. They are circular discussions without end. You can’t put a box around it to reach a conclusion. I’ve started to think in terms of who was the best in their sport of a generation. You can usually have just as much fun and more often reach an agreeable conclusion.
Last time we saw a player dominate the news cycle and fan interest this way was Larry Bird taking tiny Indiana State to an undefeated season and a showdown with Magic and Michigan State.
@@20Schmidt....she does....all athletes...male and female must be held to the same standard....to be the greatest or 1 of...she needs a championship...no moral victories......
The 1-and Done rule, and a lul bit of the Transfer Portal, is why, for the most part, Mens College Bball is unwatchable till the Final Four tourney. And it will continue for the foreseeable future
I get annoyed when Dan talks about "theres no star power"...i could care less about "star power"...I watch because i like the game...after all, its the media that creates "stars."...it almost felt like he was bashing college basketball instead of promoting it...you cant force college basketball on others the way you do the nfl is what Bilas was saying imo..i read.between the lines
Fair enough, but college basketball is a lot more exciting when a team has 2 or 3 great players that stay there for a few years, and you know there's going to be exciting plays when you tune in, and that the team will be good.........if it's just a program that you root for, and there's a bunch of no-names that rotate in and out, it's not as good.
@@JK-br1muI get it but "great players" or freaks of nature like Zion are rare...if you want to get fans who do not normally watch college basketball then "star" players are great...but ultimately people who like college basketball will watch regardless....and college basketball is more about team ball anyways...don't get me wrong, i would like to see a "Kobe Bryant" play in college but it is what it is...its still a great product without the great player imo.
I think the nuanced got lost while they were discussing the comments two weeks ago. It was not who the greatest was, it was Jay refusing to call her great, cause she hasn't won a championship yet. They just can not keep on target here.
Dan seems really intent on having the lowest common denominator typical sportstalk interview of "how great is she?" blah blah blah. Bilas is trying to get him to elevate the conversation and appreciate her as the player she is and it's like Dan is incapable (or unwilling) to do so.
And he has to bring up Lebron for no apparent reason...out of all the questions he could have asked he brings up Lebron...really? No shame in Dan's game.
The Bears should trade down as much as possible, sign Baker Mayfield to a pricy 1 year deal…then draft a new QB with the new coach they’ll inevitably get next year if they aren’t 100% sold on Caleb Williams. This will be a wasted year anyway. Bakers play is perfect for Chicago.
Agreed, Great and greatest are a different subject! No doubt that Clark is great, but she's not the greatest! I'd agree with Dan about Brianna Stewert as the greatest ever! BTW UCONN has been going around selling out other team's arenas for decades, so its not new! The UCONN/Notre Dame, UCONN/Rutgers, UCONN/Tenn in women, and UCLA/Houston, Duke/NC, Duke UCONN, Kentucky/Duke, Kentucky/Kansas in men's games were always huge in their days!
so maybe they are compareable... thats the point.. all these people touting pete is so much better this or that. i just disagree with that... in an equal work they are fairly close @@gtizzle7606
Dan's absolutely right, there's no star power in men's college basketball. UConn is trying to repeat as champions & I've not heard this mentioned one time on ESPN/SportsCenter college basketball coverage, nor is the narrative of a repeat winner pushed. Even if UConn doesn't have one standout player they can focus on, they should still be pushing the team as trying to repeat. If this were football & Georgia, Alabama, Michigan or Ohio St going for a repeat you'd hear that talked about multiple times daily on national sports news & local sports shows as well. Whoever is promoting/marketing men's basketball is doing a horrible job, they're really doing a disservice to the game & the players
Caitlin Clark is the first true college basketball star in at least the last three decades. Back when I was growing up, they were all kinds of college basketball stars because they stayed in school for four years. And you got to know them as college players. certainly on the men’s side that just does not happen anymore. And as far as fan storming the court, at the end of college sporting events. That does not show passion that shows utter stupidity. They don’t allow this kind of shit at professional events. Why should it be allowed at college events.
c'mon Dan, didn't even talk about men's or women's NCAA fields this year, and his thoughts on the bubble teams? instead the same exact questions Jim got, with basically the same answers. zzzzzzzzzzz
Dan says the same every year it seems...true basketball fans will watch college basketball...they dont need no gimmicks or "in-season-tournament" to draw more fans...it is what it is...with the nba being as bad as it is- im sure a lot of those fans will start watching more college basketball.
Everyone made a big deal about court storming and the kid from Duke is out playing and dunking a week later. I normally agree with Jay but this feels like him looking for a cause
I agree...ultimately you're only as good as the other 4 players on the court...having said that, Caitlyn Clark has a very good squad this year....theres also a lot parity in the women's game, more than I can ever remember...it has the makings to be their greatest tournament ever.
