Jovial Baffour how can something be our home when haven’t been to in over 400 years. As one who has been to Africa, I would say it is the home of my ancestors, but i am too far removed to consider Africa home personally. I loved it when I visited, but I would not consider myself African. I don’t subscribe to african culture or their languages and they let me know that when I visited.

Been arrested, came out and did same and said he would sell drugs better than before he got arrested. now sells real estate utilizing his same drug dealing principles he stated in an article. Read the article where he glorified his drug selling to the community but never had remorse for the people and their families destroyes by drugs.. I found it so odd he could cry about ancestors he never met and cant name from 400 years ago but had no problem destroying his current ancestors/ community with his drug sales. I hate to say it but as an African American Christian I kind of laugh at these videos where all us black people are crying for ancestors we cant name and have no clue what their experiences were. But sitting here destroying our present ones. A Christian doesn't pray to dead ancestors for help never know who went to hell. lol. We pray to God / talk to jesus as Christians. Pretty ridiculous really, you have no connection with a place an ancestor of yours came from 400 years ago. You need to stop looking for a grand history that isn't there. Focus on today and what black people might be able to achieve in the future rather than trying to steal other cultures pasts.

We appreciate your desire to help, brother/sister. I am a Ghanaian and I would like to share another perspective of what aid (donating shoes and clothes) does to the locals on the longterm. Ghana (and all other African countries) are not short of shoemakers and tailors. It’s a trade that preexisted the arrival of the Europeans and is struggling to survive. When donations from Europe, America and Asia flood our markets, they’re way cheaper than the locally produced clothes and shoes. This reduces or kills the sales of local entrepreneurs and they end up on the side of need. In the end, mass media reports how African countries depend heavily on aid, when it’s the aid that made them dependent. The same happens with food aid destroying the livelihoods of local farmers, development aid that insists that the civil engineers be imported which weakens the local construction industry, the list goes on. It’s a vicious cycle. I want to propose a new perspective you can take. Investigate local businesses that are trying to scale up in Ghana and other African countries. Find out how you could link them up to other local and foreign markets. You can help them improve the quality of their products, if need be, to make them more competitive. This way, you create employment as they scale up to meet the larger demand, they become independent and the economy grows. You can take a cue from the story of africaonmyback.com. She discovered these beautiful backpacks made in Ghana and started marketing and selling them in the US. You can also check out Maximum Impact Ghana’s video here on RU-vid. He is connecting entrepreneurs in the US and Ghana to boost economic activities for locals to improve prosperity and financial independence.

I just returned from my first trip to Ghana & I saw how powerful the entrepreneurial spirit is there... They are looking for ways to make more sales to feed their families & help their communities. I agree with you 1000%. I also just came across Africa On My Back & Jay who is helping build collaborations and partnerships between Ghanaians and Americans.

We acknowledge the good you want to do in providing donations. However you can do even better by purchasing from them & helping facilitate partnerships between Ghanaians & Americans. My husband & I got contact info for several of the entrepreneurs. We're looking to buy more goods from them & to collaborate with them to build stronger families, communities and nations.
